Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 6 December 2013

Stayed for 3 nights in November when the hotel was not crowded. The stay was excellent but here are some plus and minus points:

Plus:

1) good location next to harbour and less than 10 minutes walk to the Casino and Hotel de Paris area.
2) the upper floors overlook the port and towards the palace.
3) all rooms face the harbour direction.
4) we chose a de-luxe bedroom which is large- plus separate Jacuzzi, shower, bidet and toilet.
5) friendly service from reception - also the Italian breakfast lady was pleasant.
6) the buffet breakfast had a good and large choice
7) although a 4 star hotel, it did not feel unwelcoming to anyone coming in wearing smart casual clothing.

Minus:

1) in our 5th floor room, some noise could be heard from the restaurant on the 6th floor above (scraping chairs etc.)
2) no free coffee nor tea in the bedroom. Cartons of coffee are available but the charge for the self-made drink without milk is 4 euros
3) there is a 20 euro fine for any food brought into the hotel from outside. We never did this but were never sure if this restriction included bottles of water - the mini-bar in the room charged the usual hotel extortionate water and alcohol prices.
4) the room carpet had stains and needed a good deep clean or replacement.

Possibly not a minus point but feel that I should mention this:

# enjoyed the Jacuzzi but felt guilty at wasting water each time that we emptied it. Also it took nearly 10 minutes to fill and only would sensibly accept one person. However care needed when seated as easy to seal the suction pump and stop the flow of the jets.

# again not a minus point, we looked at the restaurant menu but nothing suited the pair of us. Also it lacked atmosphere as no one else was in there at the time though no doubt it would be pleasant on a warm evening. There is a choice of expensive and low cost restaurants within walking distance of the hotel especially nearby the harbour.

Other points:

a) we took the open get-on/get-off tourist bus (it started almost outside the hotel on the F1 chicane) to get to know the area. Thus later that day and the following day we knew what we wanted to see in more detail.
b) suggest you visit the palace at 11h15 to see the changing of the guard.
c) If you like the F1, take the 2 mile walk around the streets and try to visualise what happens in May of every year.

Would we be willing to stay in this hotel again? Yes, almost certainly.

Room Tip: Lower rooms have a close view of the private boats but higher rooms look over tops of the adjacent p...

Rather disappointing stay at the Port Palace. Needs to be updated and refurbished.
Stayed in a corner deluxe room on 4th floor - a lot of noise from above of scraping chairs
and air conditioning control did not work in the bedroom

However, the restaurant at the top of the hotel La Maree is amazing. Lovely new decor, like sitting in a Provencal Garden with views across the harbour of the BIG boats.
Food and service excellent and delicious. The Prof was very happy !

Room Tip: Apparently the quietest rooms are 305/306 and the suite 310

I did not want to come home !!! My boyfriend booked this place for us for my birthday , he booked us a grand suite , we arrived earlier and they upgraded us (at no extra cost to a executive suite) room 310 wow we walked into this room and really was pleasantly surprised , it was spacious , 2 bathrooms , jacuzzi , sauna , walk in shower !! We were on the 3rd floor and had a view over looking the harbour ( the amazing yachts) , we hadn't been in the room 10 mins when there was a knock at the door, we received a large selection of fresh fruits! Large bottle of water, and a box of chocolates with a birthday card from the hotel- this was a lovely touch!!

The room was clean , bed a little firm but pillows you had a choice

Will definately be returning

Room Tip: We ate in the Restarant on the roof terrace , it's separate from the hotel but is beautiful , if...

If you are looking for a Hotel with a nice view of the harbor that has excellent service, is very clean with big rooms and good wifi then this is the place. The brightest point was definitely the staff who was very helpful with any requests made and tried to accommodate you immediately.

I've been looking forward to staying in Monaco for sometime, very happy to have spent that time staying at the Port Palace!

This was a nice big room, having come from Paris it was a nice change/surprise to get such a large room that wasn't an exorbitant price. I was with my partner and we both enjoyed the hotel, good location, very clean and quiet. The only negative is the 10 euro fine for food/drink brought in from outside, while I can understand the need to keep a room clean I read this as a change to create extra revenue at the clients expense.

Monaco was just as good as expected, great sites and weather! Loved the stay and would happily return.

Ideal location, hotel has a lift which takes you to the top floor where you can exit on the roof, walk over the road to the Oostend Public Parking garage (Oostend charge Euro20 a day - the hotel charges Euro30 and they park and fetch your car for you). The room was very comfortable (on the 5th floor) stunning view of the harbour. There is a Nespresso coffee machine in the room but they charge you Euro4 per pod if you use it and they fine you if you bring any drinks or food into the room. The hotel is in an ideal location and there are restaurants close by and also a supermarket - they had a take-away pizza area at Euro 8 a pizza which was big enough to share (for those nights you do not feel like eating out). The restaurant on top of the hotel is not part of the hotel and has a buffet supper for Euro 45. (2013)

Room Tip: 5th floor view perfect although the restaurant makes a lot of noise when cleaning up all hours of th...

My father and I stayed at the Port Palace for a few days whilst in Monte Carlo. The location of the hotel is fantastic as it is right on harbor level and just across the street from Port Hercules. When checking in, it took a few minutes for the staff member to find our reservation but eventually we were provided with room keys for our twin bed room. Upon arriving at the room, the first thing we noticed was that the room had a single bed! We promptly called the reception about the mistake and they apologized and said that a new room would be made available immediately and a hotel staff member would be up with the key and to assist us with the room. It took over an hour for this to happen so we decided to open a bottle of wine and sit on the balcony.

When the employee eventually made it up we were quickly moved to the new room. After we made ourselves at home, we went for lunch on the rooftop where an even better view of the Port can be found. The service was not memorable but it did the job. The rest of the days we toured the city only returning to the hotel at night time. I would recommend the hotel only to those looking for a bed, not those planning on relaxing here.
