“Nice Hotel, Great Location”
Reviewed 17 October 2009

The Port Palace Hotel was the 1st leg in our 3-leg trip to Europe. We booked this hotel after researching every hotel in Monte Carlo via Tripadvisor.

We were getting on the Regent Seas Voyager on Friday, 9/18, in Monte Carlo, and decided to spend a couple of in Monte Carlo first before the cruise. Our cruise ended in Venice and from Venice, we were taking a train to Florence in spend 6 nights with our daughter who was studying there for her fall semester of her 3rd year in college.

We flew 1st class JFK on Delta to Nice where we had a car pick us up at the airport. First class Delta was wonderful as was the flight home on Air France in Busines Class. Geting through the Nice airport was a breeze.

We enjoyed our ride into Monte Carlo and arrived at the hotel early in the am - they allowed us to check in early where we proceeded to take a nap, wake up and shower, and begin our first day in Monte Carlo. The room was spacious, nicely appointed and the bed was very comfortable. The bathrrom was a good size and the shower was strong and hot.

The people at the front desk could not have been nicer or more helpful in giving us directions, etc. You can access the main road if you want to walk up the hill toward the casino and the high-end shpping by exiting on the 5th floor of the hotel and walking out to the outdoor dining area. The view from the outdoor dining area was wonderful. We did enjoy a cocktail up here a few times in the afternoons. If you leave at the front door of the hotel, you can cross the small street and walk the length of the pier where all the yachts are docked. There are many, many outdoor cafes and restaurants - just keep walking and walking and you will see them all.

The hotel restaurant did not seem that appealing to us because of the menu and the price. We did walk out the front door to the right and found a really nice restaurant a couple of doors up - the food was very good and reasonable. This place also has rooftop dining and we enjoyed that as well. You can follow this road into the main part of town. The street right after you pass the VW showroom - make a right and the street is closed to cars and you can walk the entire street and there are shops and restaurants on both sides - very nice.

It was really neat to open up the curtains on the day before we got on the cruise ship to see the ship sitting in the harbor - very excited to see that -

We enjoyed the Port Palace and thought the price was very reasonable for Monte Carlo - walk up the hill from the hotel and check out all the high-end hotels, casino and shopping.

By the way, we are not cruise people. But after being the the Regen Seven Seas Voyager, we are sold. By far the best service we have ever received anywhere, and the accomodations and food as well as the ports of call were outstanding. Planning our second one in 2011...

Loved the location, our room had a view of the Monaco port and easy walking distance from the town center. The old town (where the palace is) is quite far on foot but still managed to see everything as finding transportation is easy. I must say i have never seen a cleaner city than this one and would love to go back. In regards to the Port Palace hotel i would like to say that the decorations and hotel style is great and very modern but it doesnt quite stand up to luxury. I got a feeleing that the hotel offeres more quantity than quality and this is mainly due to the expensive price tags. The room was very comfortable , large space, modern furniture, bright and modern bathrooms but having travelled quite a bit over the world and stayed in many hotels i got the feeling i was paying too much for what i got.

If you want stunning views of the mega yachts in Monte Carlo Harbour this is the hotel for you, spotlessly clean with all the facilities you could want , except swimming pool, beautiful rooms, nice staff and very private, you don't get all the day trippers wandering around. 3 minutes walk ( up hill ) to the casino square. We were a bit disappointed with the JFK bar as this shares the same location as the restaurant and the staff were more concerned with diners, we sat for 30 minutes and were not approached by any members of staff. But overall a fantastic hotel.

The hotel is in a brilliant location, with gorgeous views over the harbour. We had a lovely room on the first floor, spacious, good facilitaties. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The drinks in the hotel were good, we did not eat in the hotel, but it looked very nice. The hotel was clean & tidy.

A great find in Monaco. Rooms are modern, but very comfortable.

The roof top restaurant may have the best views in town--the food was great. Order the Sea Bass baked in sea salt--entre is for two.

Staff very helpful, our room looked out over the harbor. If I opened the window I could throw a stone and hit one of the boats.

At the 14 of July we stopped at the cafe of the Port Palace hotel for a lunch and cafe at about 17:00 o'clock after a long trip.
We had been there before and everything was very nice since last year i think...
This time it was the first time im my life i felt so much annoyed from both waiters and felt racism? in a country like Monte Carlo which everyone has class and good behaviour to everyone.
The service was absolutely terrible and very very rude!!!!
There were 2 waiters feld annoyed with our attendance in the Cafe from the moment we arrived.
Nobody was coming to order for 20 minutes, and both waiters dissapered inside from the moment they saw us also nobody else was in the cafe in that hour because it was really a very hot day.
After the first 15 minutes i expressed my annoyance about that treatment to the first waiter and so the other waiter came with a catalologue only for drinks// left it in a second in the table and dissapered again... without give me the time to say that wewanted to have a lunch.
So again we had to ask again and again and waiting for the menu.. and searching the service? inside the cafe...
After all that, in a half hour they brought us the bottle of water, put it in the table without even open it.. not even mention to serve it.
Again i expressed my annoyance for the menu and ''What is going on here''? ,,, what kind of treatment is that?.. again nobody answered nobody cared....
When we spend almost an hour waiting i went inside and i said ''thats it we are leaving now''
The one waiter told me' You should pay the water is 12Euros!!!!
For a small bottle of water without even open it?
When we left paying 12Euros for all this, the one waiter told us in our face''i didnt like u both !!!!!!!
Please someone should do something!!!

We had the front first floor apartment just above the entrance opposite boats on JFK drive. Hotel entrance is via rooftop deck only several hundred meters from exit Train Station, and also by car from station via JFK drive, suggest you descend from high railway stop via elevator and walk up hill towards Casino, its on right overlooking the harbour thru roofgarden wiewing deck. It cost $200 E per nite compared to 400+ at other further back from water luxury accommodation, barter them down from their listed 400E price, they will do it for you
