The Port Palace Hotel was the 1st leg in our 3-leg trip to Europe. We booked this hotel after researching every hotel in Monte Carlo via Tripadvisor.
We were getting on the Regent Seas Voyager on Friday, 9/18, in Monte Carlo, and decided to spend a couple of in Monte Carlo first before the cruise. Our cruise ended in Venice and from Venice, we were taking a train to Florence in spend 6 nights with our daughter who was studying there for her fall semester of her 3rd year in college.
We flew 1st class JFK on Delta to Nice where we had a car pick us up at the airport. First class Delta was wonderful as was the flight home on Air France in Busines Class. Geting through the Nice airport was a breeze.
We enjoyed our ride into Monte Carlo and arrived at the hotel early in the am - they allowed us to check in early where we proceeded to take a nap, wake up and shower, and begin our first day in Monte Carlo. The room was spacious, nicely appointed and the bed was very comfortable. The bathrrom was a good size and the shower was strong and hot.
The people at the front desk could not have been nicer or more helpful in giving us directions, etc. You can access the main road if you want to walk up the hill toward the casino and the high-end shpping by exiting on the 5th floor of the hotel and walking out to the outdoor dining area. The view from the outdoor dining area was wonderful. We did enjoy a cocktail up here a few times in the afternoons. If you leave at the front door of the hotel, you can cross the small street and walk the length of the pier where all the yachts are docked. There are many, many outdoor cafes and restaurants - just keep walking and walking and you will see them all.
The hotel restaurant did not seem that appealing to us because of the menu and the price. We did walk out the front door to the right and found a really nice restaurant a couple of doors up - the food was very good and reasonable. This place also has rooftop dining and we enjoyed that as well. You can follow this road into the main part of town. The street right after you pass the VW showroom - make a right and the street is closed to cars and you can walk the entire street and there are shops and restaurants on both sides - very nice.
It was really neat to open up the curtains on the day before we got on the cruise ship to see the ship sitting in the harbor - very excited to see that -
We enjoyed the Port Palace and thought the price was very reasonable for Monte Carlo - walk up the hill from the hotel and check out all the high-end hotels, casino and shopping.
By the way, we are not cruise people. But after being the the Regen Seven Seas Voyager, we are sold. By far the best service we have ever received anywhere, and the accomodations and food as well as the ports of call were outstanding. Planning our second one in 2011...
