You will have to travel far to find a more friendly guesthouse than this one.
The Fischl family are winemakers and also offer their home as a superbly appointed guesthouse in the centre of Morbisch. The family greet you like old friends and the atmosphere is relaxed and easy going from the start.
English is spoken, though a little German always helps. Their delicious wine is available to guests at cost price and it's a lovely way to end the days journey, sitting at a garden table having a glass or two, (or bottle or two in our case...).
The rooms are beautifully kept and the breakfast is delicious. There are several good restaurants within walking distance and Frau Fischl can make recommendations for you..
Lots of off-road parking if you are driving (which is fairly essential for getting here).
The "Neusiedler See" is an interesting and atmospheric area, located in the province of Burgenland, about an hour and a bits drive,to the South East of Vienna. It's well worth making an extra day or two to visit this part of Austria as it's quite unlike the rest of the country.
The culture and roots traditionally are more akin to Hungary. In fact you can always borrow a bike from them and cycle ten minutes up the lane and you will be in Hungary itself.
A couple of hours on a boat trip on the lake, one of Central Europe's largest (and shallowest) is worth doing for the wildlife, or topping up the tan. It's the sunniest place in Austria.
The laid back sleepy town of Eisenstadt and the Esterhazy Palace is only a half an hours drive.
I thoroughly recommend a stay here as a relaxing contrast to the full-on city experience that is Vienna. You won't be disappointed.
