Gasthof Hirlatz
Ranked #10 of 16 Hallstatt B&B and Inns
Reviewed 6 January 2012

The Gasthof Hirlatz is a charming family-run guesthouse in Hallstatt. There are four generations of the family living and working at the premises, which makes it a real family home with a charming atmosphere. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming, and make time to get to know their guests, and to give them helpful advice and assistance.
The Hirlatz is on the edge of the village, but Lake Hallstatt is only ten minutes' walk away, and the hotel is just by the scenic Echerntal with its walking and hiking trails. The setting is very peaceful with a mountain stream running nearby.
The home-cooked food is always excellent, especially the game, which is a speciality of the region, and we can see that it is prepared with loving care and attention.
The rooms are fine for our needs, and the view from the balcony is magnificent. There is also a well stocked and reasonably priced mini-bar.
We have been coming here regularly for ten years, and hope to come back this year and for many years to come.
Peter and Jane.

Fell in love with the town after seeing a simple picture.

The family-run guesthouse was charming and perfectly situated in the sleepy mountian town. The room was bright and coxy, the family was friendly and welcoming, and the breakfast was chock-full of lactose-free treats. Yay!

It was positively delightful!

Room (suite) was fine but a limited choice of breakfast consumables and we had one dinner in the guesthouse which was just not good enough really.

A few changes and a bit of updating would really improve this guesthouse.

Room Tip: For a bit more space book a suite.

This has to be the most picturesque village surrounded by mountains with the b&b nestled right next to them. Just a five min walk from the lake and town we were made very welcome and the free parking there came in very handy! We had a junior suite which was so spacious and had a balcony with a great view. The staff were so helpful I can't praise them enough and the food was great. They have a pool but can't advertise it as it no longer complies with Austrian law but guests can use it. I would highly recommend staying here as it is in a great location to see the stunning Halstatt. We will be visiting again!

A warm welcoming place to stay. Short walk into the village down a beautiful lane next to a flowing river. Staff were wonderful. Food was great. The location is totally stunning. I would certainly stay here again.

I will not repeat what others have said so I,ll keep it brief. We arrived in light rain and its probably a 20 minute walk to accommodation. But fantastic loaction so peacefull and room was excellent and we kept window ajar to listen to the stream in the back yard. bedding was great and we had half board so after lots of walking we had a shower enjoyed a fantastic meal and great nights sleep. Only down side was no internet terminal. I highly recommend

This small family run hotel is thoroughly recommended. It is situated down a narrow lane, alongside a rushing river, in the shadow of some spectacular mountains. Although the hotel has no lake views and is around 15 minutes walk to the lakeside and further to the centre of the village, we soon realised that the peace and quiet and the spectacular scenery more than made up for this.

We had a junior suite which comprised two rooms with a separate toilet and bathroom (so 4 rooms in all). The rooms were light and spacious with modern decor and lots of storage space. There was a fridge with a min bar. Our breakfast was excellent with a wide range of juices, hot drinks, cold meats, cheeses, eggs, fruits, breads, seeds etc. Six different home made jams were also available each day. There is a garden area for outside eating and drinking. The best part of the holiday, however, was the service. The family who run the hotel were friendly, helpful and extremely pleasant. They run off a daily news sheet with recommendations for sight seeing, a "saying of the day", weather forecast etc. We had dinner a couple of times - the menu was good with several vegetarian choices. Highly recommended.
