Owner description: Take the panorama funicular railway up the mountain at Hallstatt to discover the mysterious attraction of this mystical area. The path leads to the tunnel mouth and into a unique underground world first dug by hand more than 3000 years ago: many kilometres of tunnels lead deep into the rock interior. Enjoy a day full of fun and information at the Salt Mine Hallstatt for the hole family.

Weather was bad so decided to go down the mines! Had great fun but it is hard work especially in motorbike kit. You get to put on coveralls to keep your clothes clean which all added to the fun.

Very informative, the tour is also given in English but this is often drowned out when people start talking in the group because they've heard their bit!

Wooden slides and train ride great fun.

Views even on a rainy day were stunning. Loads of toilets around the place.

Thank Chumlie

Caution, the nice cable-car / funicular is rather expen$ive!!! - Opened until 18:00 - 6PM only in summer time which is rather disappointing - Hopefully, view at the top (Welterbeblick) is fantastic :-)

This is a great historic tour of the worlds oldest salt mine. It's cold, so wear warm clothes and there is hiking involved. Great tour though!

There isn't much to do in Hallstatt aside from enjoying the immense and breathtaking beauty all around you. This is one attraction that I would suggest. It is a little corny but hey, it's a salt mine. They've got to try to make it a little more interesting and the cart ride out of the mine was a blast! Make sure to check out the viewpoint before you go all the way up to the mine.

One of the main attractions of Hallstatt. After the funicular, take a short walk to where the tour starts. The views were amazing! We were worried at first as it was very cloudy in the morning. After our tour we decided to have a meal at the restaurant to wait for the clouds to go away and boy, it cleared up and it was spectacular! I'd actually recommend hiking up or down; wouldn't have bought the funicular tickets if I'd known! The animations in the salt mine describing how the mines came about, the legend behind the hallstatt salt mine and history of hallstatt were very very good. Haven't seen such vivid, easily comprehensible presentations packed with so much information :) Best part about the salt mine tours -- the train ride at the end. That was INCREDIBLE. you get a bottle of salt to bring home too! :)
