We have stayed in Graz 5 times over the years and by far this quality Hotel is the best find. The hotel is on the river and 10 minutes walking to the main shopping street. Parking is no problem because they give 24 hrs at a city garage 5 minute walk away for 3 euro. Buffet breakfast was more than anyone could ask. The hotel, although classic in every way, has just been totally renovated. Even the smallest rooms have very large twin beds and perfectly redone bathrooms. You really do not have to have a larger room, unless you want to splurge.
Wifi throughout is free.

Room Tip: Corridors are short so I would ask for a room farthest from an elevator. The location is quiet in an...

If you remember this hotel from the time when it was the leading, 5 star hotel in Graz, you will be quite confused. Nowadays, it is non-categorized hotel that differ a lot from other hotels because they do all the things differently and give a special personal touch. There is a wide variety of sizes and styles of the rooms, so be careful during the booking. Some rooms are classical (as they were before, but a bit worn) and the others are non-conventional with different details like old typing machine placed on the working table, a guitar, binocular, etc. There are also some rooms that, instead of classical bed, have only mattresses placed on the podium that covers almost the whole room... So, choose what you prefer. The rooms facing the river have good view, others not that good at all (look at the small side streets or roofs - nothing to see).
The breakfast was good, staff ok.
The disadvantage is the fact that they do not have the parking places, so you need to park at the public city garage (placed close to the other hotel from the group - Weitzer). You pay the parking at the hotel and they give a discount.
The best thing is definitely the location. The hotel is just a few steps from the main sights in Graz.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the river have great view.

The hotel has a great location, just in the center of Graz and it's easy to get there by car. To park your car you have to buy a ticket for the garage.
Some of the staff was not so friendly and we expected to be the rooms more design-ish. The disadvantage of the rooms were the beds - too soft. But all the rooms are air conditioned, which was really good in the summer time. The wifi in the hotel and in the rooms was working without problems.

Vere friendly pesonnel and a wonderful hotel to stay to visit the center of Graz. Easy to drive to by car and walk in less than 5 minutes into the old center. One of the best breakfast buffets for this class of hotel. Modern decorated but with keeping a classical tone.

Room Tip: Rooms on the fifth floor at the river side provide a nice view over the old town of Graz.

We were in Graz in a very hot day. The hotel has a very good air condition system: not too loud but effective.
As many others wrote it has a good location being only one corner from the old town.
Breakfast has a wider range of foods than expected.

Room Tip: 301 is a large room with a bath in the room

Room 404 at the Wiesler, just above the front entrance on the Grieskai, looks down onto the chattering grey-green rocky fast-flowing River Mur and across to the yellow, blue, and white tower of the Franciscans' church. The view is strikingly beautiful... and the hotelkeepers know this; on a shelf next the window is a pair of binoculars. The attitude reflected in this quirky, happy touch, as in the partly unfinished walls in a room otherwise equipped with only the most stylish, most comfortable fittings (wonderful shower! Bullet-fast internet!), is what gives the Wiesler its charm. Immensely convenient to everything in Graz that one might want to visit, parking only a two minutes' walk away, a very creditable breakfast... and now, oh dear, what went wrong?

The shabby first -- the astoundingly decorated hall in which breakfast and, one supposes, banquets are served. Rather a let-down to see the ragged, torn, stained upholstery of the chairs. Not quite right. And the unfriendly -- we were greeted at the front desk on our arrival by a brunette woman who couldn't have been more charmingly helpful, and were cleared to leave on our departure by the antidote to Gastfreundlichkeit: A blonde woman who couldn't have made it more obvious that she loathed her work, her workplace, and the idiots whose presence, as hotel guests, she had to suffer. All the words were correct, the veneer of politeness impeccable, mind you; but distaste and disdain glistened at her every pore. Eye-contact, Fraeulein! And the corners of the mouth -- yes, use THOSE muscles! The ones that pull the corners up! No, you don't have to mean it, but DO smile!

A miniature, then, of our experiences in Austria, a country like the little girl / with the little spit-curl / right in the middle of her forehead. When Austria (or the Hotel Wiesler) is good, it is very, very good. But when not, it is perfectly horrid.

fantastic design rooms, if you get the right one. it's my 2 nd time in this hotel. the location is perfect, in the center, right next to the Mur river. the 1st time i had a room facing the river with a very hip and modern design, books, special. sleeping with the sound of the river. the 2nd time i got a normal room to the back, for it's price it lacked a few things and nice details, like for instance water cooker or a bottle of water, clean and comfortable but nothing special. the staff is very helpful and friendly. i love the polaroid for guests in the lobby. right next door is a good cafe with fine breakfast. the hotel breakfast buffet is one of the best i ever had and worth it's steep price.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hotel Wiesler, in the heart of Graz, has abandoned splendour and star ratings – but not the good old days. Fresh details such as a traditional shave from our female barber, a Turkish bath or military bikes for hire round off the whole experience. At the ‘Speisesaal’ restaurant (open all day), the day begins with breakfast beneath street art covering an entire wall and is finished off with international dishes and soul vinyl music. Only a few minutes’ walk from Schloßberg and Kunsthaus, the Wiesler is the perfect base for a city tour. And those who still have to work will find free WiFi throughout the hotel. ‘Re-interpreted luxury’ feels comfortingly light at Hotel Wiesler – for all those who expect more than just a good bed and central location. ... more   less
