“Ski in Luxury”
Reviewed 21 March 2011

We have stayed at this hotel/ski resort for several years and although we also visit other resorts as well we keep coming back to this one. The hotel has a magnificent location sitting rite in the mountains but only a loverly 20 minute walk or 5 minute ride in the free hotel shuttle bus away from the main town. It has a wonderful history and is run by the Krings family who have owned and developed it over many years into a high standard luxury ski hotel with a core of long serving excellant staff. This year they have extended and made major improvements to the hotel with several new luxury suite's and a fantastic new swimming pool and wellness center, there is also a new ski room with even better facilities and access to the ski lifts ( ski in/out and only 50m to two of the best ski lifts) The food and wine has always been a great attraction of this hotel but has just got even better with improvements to the kitchens and restaurants and the addition of a magnificent private dinning/wine room and cellar. We have already booked for next year. Obertauern is a great ski area for all ability skiers with great off piste, and has very good snow reliability The lift systems are modern and well maintained and there are several good mountain restaurant's for lunch and a couple of great apres ski bars on the slopes especially the Hochalm bar. When checking the rates it may seem a little expensive but you only get what you pay for and overall this hotel represents excellant value.

excellent food, good mixture between traditional and modern living, congratulation to the improvement of the wine offering and also to the perfectly succeeded construction of the new bar area in traditional style.
Furthermore the spa area has been renovated - the already very good offerning has been improved by an additional pool and water slide for small children

Ski in ski out, but this particular alpscenery of Obertauern is not very beautiful. Not very high mountains. Industrial. Too big diningspaces. Unpersonal afterski. Too much rooms. Spa overcrouded. No wineselection; almost only austrian wines of mediocre quality, yet expensive. Owners Interfiering with the integrity of guests by too much creating the idea of visiting a family, not a ski-resort. The hosting family is in focus. Not the guest. Unpolite. Standardrooms very unpleasant small and suffocating.

Dear guest,

we are sorry to hear, that our destination in Obertauern was not in accordance with your expectations. Our hotel is part of the beautiful Salzburger Land, the heart of Austria. For this reason our wine selection focuses on mainly Austrian produce which is completed with a selection of international wines. We feel sorry that this was not to your liking.

"Guest is King" is certainly as well the principle of Seekarhaus. We are sorry that this did not come across!

Best regards

We stayed in a family room (a Silber Suite) --which had a separate bedroom with bunk beds for kids -- and it was perfect... tons of closets and space for ski clothes. Two big lifts start at the hotel... they couldn't be closer and they are in the center of the Obertauern system.

The hotel handled equipment rental from the ski room with direct access to the slopes... equipment was all in great shape, the hotel's ski pro was very helpful. Ski school also handled by the hotel and kids were picked up every morning and taken there and brought back.

The hotel restaurant was good, breakfast buffet fantastic and dinner very good but perhaps a bit serious (always 4 or 5 courses) we would have love a simpler option. Restaurants very kid friendly. Swimming pool is new and nice -- kids pool was a hit -- and there is a steam room and sauna with the pool. There is also an adults only sauna up in the spa on the 3rd floor.

I wasn't sure the skiing would be great but the area was quite large and well managed; there was plenty to keep us busy for a week, and lots of wonderful places to eat on the slopes, some quite charming. Also we went sledding at the town outdoor center which offered sledding, horse drawn carriage rides, skating and cross country skiing. The hotel was helpful with that, it was easy.

Obertauern is a tiny ski village only and hour and a half from Saltzburg. If you are looking for excellent skiing from November to May this is the place to come. And we wanted total tranquility, so we came to the Seekaarhaus. The hotel is behind the village, part way up the mountain but only 5 minutes from the village centre by taxi or hotel mini bus. We were looking for a ski in/ ski out facility and this has got to be the best one we have ever found. No buses or long walks here. Just from your room down in the lift to the warm skiroom, get your skis out of your locker, open the door and you are ON THE PISTE right next to several ski lifts. And the skiing is amazing. You waste absolutely no time carrying skis and heavy boots around. You can hire first class equipment at the hotel, helments, boots ,skis. Youll need to hire ski clothes from Skiworld down in the village but it saves you carrying all the things from home. This family run hotel is quite exceptional. The award winning resturant serves fantastic breakfasts and 5 course dinners. The staff are all very well trained, polite and helpful. The entire place is spotless. The Krings family own the mountain and the ski runs are incredibley well groomed. And because of the hight and micro climate you almost have a guarantee of snow for the entire season. The clientele are elegant, smart people, mainly well to do couples , friends and families. A huge number have been coming back for years.Just perfect. No dunken yobs or loud discos in this hotel. Just the chance to relax, unwind, eat well , sleep well and recharge the batteries. There are plenty of other things to do to, sledging, slay rides, shopping in the village, wonderful mountain resturants during the day (or just come back to the hotel). Yes and there are good night spots down in the village too. Parking is also free in an underground car park at the hotel - but make sure you have winter tyers, chains or 4 wheel drive. You will need it. I cant recommed this hotel strongly enough. It is a kind of sanctuary, perfect for a long or short break. It has a spa area too. They will be building a pool next year (2010) but frankly it doesnt matter that there isnt one just yet. - you will be too busy skiing. The snowboarding is amazing too. It should be, the family Krings who own the hotel and mountain set up snow boarding routes especially for their guests because their daughter is a world chanpion snowboarder. And finally you can also try the new sport of ski or snow board kiting. Wow its exciting. I have skied in some of the top resorts in Europe. This hotel , location and the pistes beats them all!
