“Excellent hotel”

I stayed with my family at this hotel and the stay was perfect under all aspects. The room, Junior suite Kirchbuehl, was large enough for four people and also gave a little privacy thanks to a small curtain in the middle. The food was great, the wellness area clean and absolutely full of any comfort. Also the outdoor activities organized for the family were great; we went hiking with guides and also took part in an activity in the wood for kids.
We hope to be able to go there also next year.

Room Tip: Rooms in the south side have a better view and more sun.

We went on a short trip to this hotel and were surprised by the level of service there. Especially the food was excellent. The staff was friendly and looked at any possibility to make our stay better. As we are hikers, we appreciated a free detailed hiking map of the hotel's surrounding area. This was the first time we got such a detailed map for free in the hotel we stayed in.

The rooms are rather small but equipped with everything necessary - including hair dryer and Spa-set. We stayed in the first floor (of 3) just above the kitchen on northern side of the hotel (not the one to the main street). During the night, there was an hum which was so loud, we could not sleep with opened window. So go rather for higher floors or the side towards the main street.

The food was _excellent_. 5 steps menu with additional variety of Salads, deserts and cheese selection. The top was a Desert-buffet on Sunday evening.

The surrounding is perfect for hiking. So if you are looking for great trails with beautiful outlooks, this is the right place. You can find easy ones just around a rope-way's top or you can go for a black-ones going through several summits around the hotel.

Even thou, we didn't use it, the hotel is prepared for families with children - there is even a baby-sitting area. During our stay, there were several families with kids.

The prices are not the smallest ones, I would suggest the hotel to my friends as the service you get is very good.

Room Tip: See the review - the Southern rooms should be better.

Our family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids aged 15, 11 & 6) plus a friend stayed in this beautiful hotel for a week this April. We stayed in the Hundskogel suite (rm 216) which had a lovely large balcony facing south overlooking the slopes, a sofa bed in living room, bunk beds in kids room and lage bed in the master bedroom. The list of positive things to say would be endless so ill keep it short!: having the ski hire delivered to and collected from the hotel was a huge bonus. Also the koch ski school could collect your kids in the morning for ski school and drop them back in the afternoon if you wished. Another great bonus was the free guided tour, provided by the hotel, around the Tauernrunde on Sunday mornings. The staff at reception were also very helpful re advice about the piste map etc, and also gave us a lift to the edelweiss chair lift one afternoon. (The night skiing there is a must). Overall we had the best holiday, we travelled with another family of 5, so between the hotel & company we had a fabulous time. The only downside is the expensive cost of ski hire: over 650 eu for 5 of us (skis, boots, poles, helmets). The last 3 years we went to alpbach and ski hire was about 350 eu..

Our second visit to the Steiner hotel and have to say I think it was even better than last time, we were a party of 3 families (12 in total)

As some of our party were beginners the location is perfect close to the training slopes/T bar lift and ski school (Go with Koch ski school, v-good), out of the boot room, across the road and you're there ready to ski/board.

They are now doing an all inclusive arrangement which means you can return and have lunch, we did this only once as we like to ski a lot and eat up the mountain however, some of our friends eat there most days and loved it, this brings me to the food...it is amazing, a six course meal every night and there's always a meat, fish and vegetarian option (my wife's a veggie), they will also allow the children to order from the main menu and/or eat from the kids buffet (not all ski hotels will do this)....so everyones happy, breakfast is lavish and has everything you could want.

The spa is extensive is covers 3 floors and can be a bit of a rabbit warren, having said that we like finding yet another 'relaxation' room or family sauna or infra-red cabin etc, the pool is big and warm(ish) with a hot tub next to it, around the corner is the nude area with sauna, steam and crystal rooms, its frowned on if you don't get your kit off, we don't mind this but some UK visitors are a but prudish. Our friends arranged a massage which they said was good.

We stayed in a Panorama suite again, they are top floor facing the front of the hotel with great views of the mountain and down the valley, it has a sliding door to separate the area where our daughter slept/sang/danced/put on make-up, as she is now 14 we found this very handy !

Its approx 1 hour from Salzburg, I've driven it and gone by taxi, its a simple journey so maybe hire a car...?

In summary: We will definitely be staying here on our next trip to Obertauern.

We stayed for a week at the end of March 2014 for a family ski holiday. We were delighted with all aspects of the hotel. All of the staff were lovely and could not have been more helpful. Special mention must go to our regular waitress, Karen, who was outstanding. The food was a delight and the dining room was a nice place to be. The hotel is spotless throughout. The rooms were comfortable and spacious. There were heated ski lockers for each room with an outside entrance, and it was a 50m walk across the road and up a short bank to the piste. We enjoyed skiing in Obertauern - lifts were efficient, heated, and queue-less and the pistes were well maintained. The pool and jacuzzi were a boon after a day's skiing and we never had a problem finding a lounger on which to relax, with views from the picture windows back on to the pistes. There were lots of nice little areas in which to sit and relax and the quality of the decor was high. The bar was sociable and a pleasant place to sit too.

We would definitely want to revisit this hotel. The only irritation was the wi-fi. You had to re-register every time you left your room and even in the mornings too. Once hooked-up the speed was fine however.

Room Tip: Rooms by the lift (101 and 201) were smaller but perfectly adequate. Rooms at the back are peaceful...

I stayed for 4 nights at Hotel Steiner in March 2014. The rooms are very spacious and quiet. It is a short 2 minutes walk across one road and you are on the slope. We had full package with 3 meals included and the food quality is really excellent. Excellent Spa and Pool facilities are included. Walking to the "city centre" takes about 10 minutes. The ski room is also an excellent construction.
