Stayed at the 4* Petersbuhel for a week at the end of March.
The hotel was very quiet being end of the season but definetely deserves it's 4 stars.
The ever efficient Austrian manager Peter booked us in at super-quick speed and showed us to our rooms.
We had a double and a single in the old Stammhaus section of the hotel. These rooms are small but more than adequate and we were told they are being re-furbished for the next ski season.
Plenty of storage space, had a problem with one of the mattresses but this was changed within 15 minutes of letting the rep Ellie know when she phoned the room to see if everything was ok.
Shower good with plenty of hot water even at busy times, room was cleaned well every day with fresh towels supplied.
Breakfast was a buffet selection of the usual cereals, fruit, fruit juices , cold meats, cheese, bread and the hot selection of Bacon, scrambled egg and sausage. A very substantial breakfast , as much as you wanted of anything at the buffet.
Bonus for skiers was afternoon tea/coffee, bread, pate and a great selection of cakes.
Dinner was always 4 courses, the first being a buffet starter, second soup, third main meal ( 3 choices) and the fouth being a dessert. The last 3 courses were all served to us, I expect because of the low number of guests in the hotel at this time.
The waiters and waitresses gave us impeccable service and always had a smile.
The bar area," Wein and So" was comfortable, a great place for the men who wanted to watch the football on a big screen while enjoying a beer, but also had a large lounge area with seating around a central fireplace.
Marcel and Peter the bartenders gave us exceptional service, they were happy to chat with us and anyone else, switching languages to suit the guest they were talking to.
The hotel also has a wellness area, very relaxing after a days skiing and a reading room near the Stammhaus section which is a lovely quiet retreat.
The ski store and boot room had plenty of boot warmers and room on the racks for our skis.
Location of the hotel to the ski-lifts is good, a short 5 minute walk, we could not ski to the door at this time of the year.
Ellie, the Crystal rep was the best yet. She even phoned to introduce herself before we left the UK. Two of our group did a day's ski-guiding with her , the Red Tauernround and had a very enjoyable day's skiing with lunch at the Sonnenhof Hotel (nice sun terrace).
We booked for a wine-tasting one evening , 18 euros each for six wines and a surprise.
Claudia presented the wines telling us about the area, wine-maker and guided us though tasting. It was an interesting, informative talk with the opportunity to taste some Austrian wines we would never be able to in the UK .
Claudia sources all the wines for the Hotel , they are available on the dinner wine list at very reasonable prices.
We very much enjoyed our stay the the Petersbuhel and hope to return next year.
