Stayed at the 4* Petersbuhel for a week at the end of March.
The hotel was very quiet being end of the season but definetely deserves it's 4 stars.
The ever efficient Austrian manager Peter booked us in at super-quick speed and showed us to our rooms.
We had a double and a single in the old Stammhaus section of the hotel. These rooms are small but more than adequate and we were told they are being re-furbished for the next ski season.
Plenty of storage space, had a problem with one of the mattresses but this was changed within 15 minutes of letting the rep Ellie know when she phoned the room to see if everything was ok.
Shower good with plenty of hot water even at busy times, room was cleaned well every day with fresh towels supplied.

Breakfast was a buffet selection of the usual cereals, fruit, fruit juices , cold meats, cheese, bread and the hot selection of Bacon, scrambled egg and sausage. A very substantial breakfast , as much as you wanted of anything at the buffet.
Bonus for skiers was afternoon tea/coffee, bread, pate and a great selection of cakes.
Dinner was always 4 courses, the first being a buffet starter, second soup, third main meal ( 3 choices) and the fouth being a dessert. The last 3 courses were all served to us, I expect because of the low number of guests in the hotel at this time.
The waiters and waitresses gave us impeccable service and always had a smile.

The bar area," Wein and So" was comfortable, a great place for the men who wanted to watch the football on a big screen while enjoying a beer, but also had a large lounge area with seating around a central fireplace.
Marcel and Peter the bartenders gave us exceptional service, they were happy to chat with us and anyone else, switching languages to suit the guest they were talking to.

The hotel also has a wellness area, very relaxing after a days skiing and a reading room near the Stammhaus section which is a lovely quiet retreat.

The ski store and boot room had plenty of boot warmers and room on the racks for our skis.
Location of the hotel to the ski-lifts is good, a short 5 minute walk, we could not ski to the door at this time of the year.

Ellie, the Crystal rep was the best yet. She even phoned to introduce herself before we left the UK. Two of our group did a day's ski-guiding with her , the Red Tauernround and had a very enjoyable day's skiing with lunch at the Sonnenhof Hotel (nice sun terrace).

We booked for a wine-tasting one evening , 18 euros each for six wines and a surprise.
Claudia presented the wines telling us about the area, wine-maker and guided us though tasting. It was an interesting, informative talk with the opportunity to taste some Austrian wines we would never be able to in the UK .
Claudia sources all the wines for the Hotel , they are available on the dinner wine list at very reasonable prices.

We very much enjoyed our stay the the Petersbuhel and hope to return next year.

Hotel Petersbuehl in the middle of Obertauern only a few steps from the Obertauern skiing circle is an excellent hotel. Myself and my spouse spent a week in march 2011 and we were both very satisfied.
The room we had was a new Tauernroom very large with comfortable furnitures. Since I am 202 cm's tall and normally spend between 100 -125 nights outside my home I am very concerned specially about the beds.
Our bathroom was also large and clean and there was a seperate WC.
The food was to my test very good.
For dinner we had 3 different choices of maincourses and always a fish choice that I liked. We also had 2 different soups to choose from. Austrians know how to prepere soups! Also there was an extensive sallad buffet and different cheeses every day. I could not on top of that eat any desserts.
In the morning we had a breakfast buffet with everything you can ask for.
After skiing there is complimentary coffee, tea and chocolate with cakes and sandwiches.
Petersbuehl also have a new wellness area with 4 different saunas made in a very relaxing style with a possibility to cool yourself in the snow - I liked that!
We drove to Obertauern and therefore we found the new indoor also complimantary garage right under the hotell very comfortable.
My first stay in Obertauern 6 years ago I finished with snowelling (?) the car for 3 hours in a snowstorm.
Peter & Claudia and the rest of the staff are all very helpful and positive.
It is allowed to smoke in austrian hotells but Petersbuehl have done a lot to reduce it.
I also could pay my bill by using my bank card. Creditcards are expensive for hotellowners and the cost for it would be added to the bill anyway.

Sorry, but this Hotel claims to be a 4* Hotel - but it is joke. The rooms - especially in the old part oft the hotel - are like "Theresa Orlowski porn-style" of the early 80ies. The new room: disgusting sweaty-smell all over the place.
The staff - Not very supporting by fulfilling the wish of enlarging the stay in the room into the day until afternoon- even if the hotel was almost empty (on a Monday in the end of March!).
Food quality - very low (breakfast & dinner)
And also very funny: They didn´t except credit cards!

Only highlight: The service-crew (waiters) tried their best!

We had a rather unpleasant experience in this particular hotel so I would not recommend it to anyone. For some reason we were with four small kids for the first dinner seated in a very quiet area with most elderly people therefore we were constatly being shushed by the lady in charge which caused us a terrible stress. After that experience there would not be a manager, as one would expect in a four star hotel, sent to us, agreing on changing the place. Instead of that a waiter came telling us that because of kids we are being expelled to the farthest room there . But worse was to come. One evening I had to leave the dinner earlier because some people came to our dining place and started smoking. I asked the waiter to cancel my order of wine that was not served yet and left. The next day I found the wine on my bill. The lady in charge did not allow the waiter to erase it. So I went to talked to her and we had a very heated discussion over a glass of wine. She said she wont erase it because the smoking people were eventually sent away. I have to say that this kind of behaviour one would not expect in a four star hotel. And I do not recomment to anyone as this unpleasant and unprofessional behaviour can really ruin your holiday!!

Good hotel, no compliants at all.
Rooms somewhat small and bathrooms tiny, but beds comfortable (pillows awful-take your own) big flat screen TV. There are bigger better rooms but for the time we spent in the room not worth upgrading. Great wellness area sauna and steam rooms just what the doctor ordered after a hard days skiing-unlimited water. Food was good plenty to eat and always a good choice even for the kids. Wine excellent choice and at a reasonable price.

Ski boot room fantastic with lots of space and heated boot racks. we could either ski over to skischool Koch or catch their taxi in the morning which also brought you back in the afternoon. We chose to leave our skis at the skischool and catch the taxi-so much easier!

Claudia ran the hotel well and addressed any problems immediately-she certainly didnt put up with kids playing up-good for her!

Only criticism was smoking in the bar although nosmoking areas the smokers smoke always reached you and put you off. We had to leave early most nights for this reason.

We were happy for our kids to wander around hotel by themselves and watch TV in the teenagers room as it felt so safe.

The snow was amazing and we had a great time. dont listen to the poor reviews, this place has and has now put things right as a result-Well done

Excellent food, staff were incredibly helpful, they spoke English and managed to translate my very broken German. Room wasn't exactly 4 star but was very clean and tidy. It did have a massive TV in our room.
Excellent location for competent skiiers, if follow the green or red clockwise/anticlockwise route you can ski literally from the front door (snow permitting) back to almost the same place.
Like most Austrian bars, smoking is still permitted which is a shame. Boot room had heated racks to dry boots.
This is a whole relaxation/sauna complex and mini gym.

Overall, we would return to this hotel and resort.

I hesitated before writing another review of this Hotel, because I do not want to be thought of as a 'cheer-leader'. Then I read Scardeycat's review (I think we must have been there at the same time) and decided that as it matched my own views, I would go ahead anyway.
When we (my wife and I) arrived, we were remembered and greeted warmly. We had only a fairly basic room which was fine, as we were too tired after skiing to do anything more exhausting than drink the bottomless afternoon tea provided, then on to the sauna, followed by a good dinner, and a stagger onto the bed, to watch the alpine world championships on the TV.
The hotel was the same as I described last year - in summary - informal, very clean, and friendly, with a good bar area and good food served in the restaurant. In particular, the Farmers Buffet was a fabulous affair, though a vegetarian might think otherwise!
I had, though, made a mistake with the holiday dates. I had avoided the English half-term and Fasching week, but not the Salzburg half-term, so both slopes and hotel probably had more children than a normal week. However, we were found a fairly quiet place in the restaurant to help with our hearing problem, away from the majority of small children with big voices.
One other point. 'THOMSONSKI' indicate that the hotel is ski-in/ski-out. It may be in some circumstances, but you must ski along a (short) service road which the highly efficient Austrians insist on gritting – thus carrying your skis before accessing the slopes, is a better option.
