It first was a little hard to find, and after we finally arrived the staff couldn't find out reservation. After about a thirty minute wait, they were able to locate it and we were able to leave our luggage in a room until our room was ready later that afternoon. Unfortunately, the luggage room didn't have a key and anyone could walk in at any time. Needless to say, it was a risk on our part. Fortunately, we found that nothing was stolen that night, the the rooms were definitely budget. Wouldn't recommend staying here if you can avoid it; no pros to this place.

I definitely cannot recommend this hostel to anybody! When I arrived, my room was a mess, there were pubes on the toilet seat, dark hair all over my bed and the floor was dirty as well. Further more, the wireless isn't available in any room, only in the garden. The garden is nice though, so if you don't take care about any housekeeping at all and it doesn't matter to you that the pubes of other people are all over your bed and in the bathroom - go ahead, book it. But if you prefer a clean place, STAY AWAY!!!

The staff were excellent - really tried to take good care of us. The room was a standard college dorm room (at least ours was ensuite), and the pillowcase was a bit smaller than the pillow, but the room and bathroom were clean. We couldn't make their LAN work, but we did get a wifi signal in the lobby area, but it was painfully slow. There was a bar hidden at the end of the place, but it seemed rather underused. The garden area out back was very nice, though. It was a good 15 minute walk into the city center, but better than trying to park there. We did pass on breakfast--it seemed rather skimpy. Overall a positive experience--if they could get the internet working properly it'd be grand.

If you are looking for a budget accommodation in Salzburg old town area , then this is it. It is run by students and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms were quiet small and sometimes stuffy, but it is fine for those who looking for a budget stay. The hostel is a 15 minute walk from the old town and is a bit isolated from the main area. The best part is they serve you muffins, no wonder they are named as muffin hostel ;) Things to note, there are no air conditioners in the room and no landline. The internet was a mess, it didn't work half the time. Since, it is a hostel, sometimes it used to get very noisy at night as well....

Location:
To find it for first time (we arrived at cca midnight) it was little difficult, especially with big suitcase. But after learning the public transport system of city Salzburg, it was not so terrible. Otherwise, it is in still neighborhood.
First impression:
I guess it is former college or something like that.
Staff:
I think those girls were from Poland or something like that. They spoke better English than German. I was little surprised and it made not so good impression, but I could live with that.
Room:
Too small. I do not need luxury rooms, I am backpacker and need room only to take a sleep, but still: more place is needed. Another missed thing was a table. Other hands, room might be cleaner. Regarding bathroom we had – it was acceptable. But still it was uncomfortable.
Kitchen:
Awful. Everything turns off after 10 minutes. Try to boil potatoes within 10 minutes… Fridges were split according rooms, but no one cared. Waste baskets were always full, no one took care about separating the waste… Table for cca 6 persons, if there are staying I don´t know… 100?, is really too small.
Resume:
For backpackers who only search something to sleep, it might be OK. But perhaps not for this price. For cca 90€/3persons/night, I got better places to stay even in more expensive countries like Denmark or Finland. Next time I will search harder….

I spent a wonderful week in Muffin Hostel. It felt like home from the very first moment - smiling, helpful staff, clean & nice rooms, big garden in the back of the building with volleyball and football pitch and a place for BBQ, kitchen, common room with big tv and Sound of Music every night. Amazing.

They also have a bar downstairs, where you can meet other backpackers for a beer or two.

About the location: it seems far from the centre, but in fact it's just a 15min walk from the city centre (Old Town)

All in all - great place to stay.
