We were on a long and in depth tour through the major and some minor sites in Old Town Salzburg with our guide. Due to our schedule we really didn't have the time to take a long lunch break. God forbid but we were actually thinking about getting a quick bite at the McDonalds when our guide gives us this stern look and says we can't do that. She quickly goes to to say that she would like to take us to this local hot dog/sausage stand that the locals frequent. They like it because the faire is very tasty and very reasonably priced.
She guides us into this side alley off the main thorough faire through the Old Town and we see this long line in front of what I really call a "Hole in the Wall" restaurant. It looks like something you would see out of a movie or in a State Fair. As we get closer, she explains the choices in detail and after some quick perusing, ask her to order the most popular "dog" with all the fixings. I get to the counter and it's just humming in there. The older lady who I learn is the proprietor, smartly takes our order from our guide and in no time flat, we all have our food.
It's hot, flavorful and a bit messy but hey, it works! We all were chowing down on our "dogs" as we walked down the street. People are staring at us and a few ask us where we got them. It took less than 15 minutes from start to finish. If your a bit time constrained to undertake a full meal, it's a great option. Only one thing, I should have ordered an extra one as it was that good.
