Description: The "Sternbrau" is located right in the middle of the Old City of Salzburg, next to the world-famous Getreidegasse and Mozart's birthplace. Since 1542, the "Sternbrau" step by step has become the biggest and most popular traditional beer inn of Salzburg. Since October of 2014, the whole restaurant complex is fully renovated and now offers an outstanding variety of eleven halls and parlours with a unique mixture of tradition and modernity. We serve typical Austrian cuisine with a modern twist, our home-brewed unfiltered beer and our own Austrian red and white wine.

In reality Sternbrau is really a number of different dining rooms spread around a common kitchen each with a slightly different feel and different entrances! It is though a very popular stop in the middle of the Old Town.

We stopped in for a quick lunch and whilst the food (goulash and schnitzel) was OK it was nothing special.

It's a good place for a quick refuelling stop, both food and drink, but I wouldn't come here for an occasion or speciality food - there are better places in Salzburg.

This old charming restaurant was very nice & quiet. I throughly enjoyed our lunch here. I have found though, through my experiences while eating out in Europe that if a waiter/waitress brings you bread of any kind, it is not free. If you eat it, they will charge you. No matter if you ask for the bread or not, they place it on the table & allow you the temptation to eat you up. Then bang, it appears on your bill. I didn't mind this time, because the waiter didn't charge a lot for the pretzels. So, back to the food. I had the veal innards which we smothered in a brown gravy. Yeah, sounds gross, but it was prepared perfectly and tasted just like a stew meat. I then had the sacher torte for dessert, which was very nice. A nice place to go if you're looking for old style Austrian food.

Great food, great ambience and excellent beer. Great staff and they will find you a table in one of the many rooms even if the restaurant is busy. Worth a visit - the Wiener schnitzel and bratwurst are great.

The food was fine but nothing special, and the staff were reasonably friendly. The atmosphere was flat and not intimate due to size of the place. Probably better for larger groups.

We found Sternbrau by chance for a drink and enjoyed the buzzie atmosphere, and went back that evening for a meal.We were meet at a desk and told we could eat in any of the four restaurants, we chose the upstairs the modern one. We waited to be seated after a time I asked a busy waiter where which table we should sit he said any and went, so we did.
After that start our waiter engaged us and the food, Austrian was good with good service and a great atmosphere.
