“Inconsistent Guide Quality”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 August 2014

A friend and I were in Salzburg for 6 days. While there, we did two Panorama tours -- the cheesy but fun Sound of Music Tour and the Eagle's Nest/Salt Mine/Berchtesgaden full day tour which was marred by a very unpleasant guide.

Our Sound of Music guide (Peter) was great. He gave a nice overview of Salzburg and the surrounding area as we drove to SOM sites. We saw many of the major sites from the movie, and at the end of the tour, he walked those interested into Mirabell Gardens (adjacent to the pick up/drop off location for Panorama) and directed them to filming sites located there. For those interested in SOM, it's a very enjoyable half-day, and I would readily recommend Panorama for this trip.

As for the Eagle's Nest (et al.) tour, it was a hurried day with an irritable guide. Upon approaching the bus, we met our frowning guide who impatiently barked orders at his guests (no welcome). He did provide a nice commentary as we drove to Eagle's Nest, but yelled at and totally humiliated some members of our group for a very minor offense related to poorly-given directions in the Eagle's Nest building. What a jerk. After that, I took extra care to make sure I too didn't do something to set off the volatile guide, which obviously detracted from the sites. The visit to Eagle's Nest was cursory at best (with as much time spent at the gift shop at the bottom of the mountain as at the actual site). Berchtesgaden was a lunch stop; we were glad that we brought energy/granola bars to eat for lunch so that we could explore instead of having a sit-down lunch; there are some nice things to see a street or two over from the touristy area of town. The salt mine tour after lunch was a lot of fun. We then went to the national park area for a brief peak at Konigssee (beautiful), followed by a return to Berchtesgaden for "tea" (for us, more exploring). The tour gave me a nice taste of the area... enough to know that it may be worthwhile to return to Eagle's Nest and Berchtesgaden National Park some day to do more exploring on my own at a more leisurely pace. Given the way our guide treated our group, though, I wouldn't recommend Panorama for any non-SOM tours.

“Lakes tour-- got us out of city easily”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2014

We took the 1/2 day tour of the lakes. Small VW van took 4 of us to St. Gilgen with a nice narration of some of the history along the way. Drove by world HQ of Red Bull (Austrian company!)-- wish we could have stopped by. No time in the cute town of St. Gilgen, but a nice cruise on a mid-sized ferry to several small stops ending up in St. Wolfgang. A must see old cathedral is there. We then wandered the very retail/tourist town but found a nice café for strudel and cappuccino and hot chocolate. Driver met us and took us to Mondsee for a quick view of the "sound of music" church. nice town. gorgeous inside of the church.

Panorama did a nice job. It was an easy way without a car to see a few different parts of Austria

“Eagles Nest & Salt Mines Tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2014

Fantastic tour. Tour Guide was excellent, bus was excellent and no hiccups along the way. Full day - Salt Mines were fabulous but quite cold and dark so a warning to those who may not like that. Eagles Nest views just amazing, lot of climbing involved, wear appropriate footwear and get those cameras at the ready. Stopped in a little village Berchestgaden and had lunch, lovely little place. Just a fabulous day all round really.

“Sound of Music Tour”

This was a fantastic tour. I was thrilled by the sights and sing-alongside, and information. This is actually a great tour for Salzburg, since you see a lot of the city and outlying area. Beautiful sights and great guide.

“Looking for someone else to take charge of the day!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2014 via mobile

Walter, our guide, was humorous, but very firm about not being late. We took a full day tour. Beware, they were 12 minutes early picking us up so be ready. The Eagles Nest has beautiful views but wear comfortable shoes. The salt mines were fun but if you're claustrophobic you may not want to go. We ate lunch in a small town. It was expensive. Consider grabbing something at the grocery store and eating in the local park. The lake was beautiful but we didn't have enough time there. We then picked up another group from the salt mines and returned to the same town for afternoon tea and shopping - repetitive and unnecessary for the full day tours.
