“Good value for your buck!”
Reviewed 26 August 2014

The hotel is advertised as being in the city centre, however, it's not what you think. It is on the corner of a busy street, and in the middle of the shopping district. It is a great deal for your money, the rooms were very clean, as was the hotel entrance. You can pay for parking (11€), and they will give you an exit ticket for the parking garage. Breakfast was 5,90€ per person, and was great! No disturbances throughout the night, and we didn't have to worry about our vehicle because it was parked in a well lit, monitored parking garage.

Room Tip: Request a room that is in the back of the hotel so you don't have to hear the street noise from...

The hostel is not in the city centre as it claims to be. It took 2 seperate buses and over 20 minutes to get to this hotel, not good when it is pouring with rain. Although the hostel was nice and friendly it should not advertise itself as being in the City centre.....more like along the outskirts of the cntre

One night at the end of August 2014. 2 adults plus one 5 year old.

It wasn't all bad:

The room was functional and clean but small. The network issues mentioned in previous reviews have been addressed, with good wifi now certainly available on the third floor at least. Beds are serviceable but nothing special - a bit hard. Small shower room perfectly good.

So what's the problem then?

Well, my stay was affected by a bunch of tos... - sorry, some of the other guests. Now, a hotel cannot be held responsible for the conduct of those staying there, but they must accept that if they attract the custom of a group of ars.. sorry, a number of fine youthful specimens whose boundless cultural generosity drives them to share their taste in music with others around them (at some considerable volume) during the small hours of the morning, then they should plan accordingly. Having previously been treated to what appeared to be a game of British bulldog (these were Germans - as indeed am I - well half, but let's not quibble) in the corridor, I was then sad to discover that the walls of the building were just thick enough to filter out most of the technical fineries of the music on offer at 2 a.m., leaving us with a bass rhythm that just went "DOOF DOOF DOOF DOOF". Luckily, the doors and walls of this establishment are just insubstantial enough to contribute regular extra beats and syncopations with every slam, transforming the rather disappointing source material into something altogether more elegant.

On advising our neighbours that the full majesty of their cultural contribution to this, the city of Mozart, might be better appreciated if they were to self-administer their sound system rectally, I was regaled with some German with which I am forced to confess myself hitherto unfamiliar. It had something to do with a plate of kartoffel-fritters - I think. Anyway, after a while, the hotel receptionist came and put a stop to this, which was a shame.

What I especially liked about this hotel, though, was the extent to which they made me feel at home. I live in an impressively overcrowded part of South East England, and so a family triple room with barely space to swing a kitten suited me down to the ground, and as a seasoned traveller with various budget airlines, I was delighted to be informed that parking and breakfast would cost extra. But it's the little details that count, especially when going to the bar in the evening and asking for a beer. They've hit on the fantastic idea of getting the customer to fetch his own from the fridge, and to get him to clear up his glass and empty bottle afterwards, just like at home!

You can imagine my dismay the next morning to discover that I wouldn't be required to cook breakfast after all (I had been working on my recipe for kartoffel-fritters all night). Having cleared that up, though, I was reassured to discover that I would have to clear it up.

All for a total of €148 per night, once breakfast and parking were taken into account. A more egregious waste of money doesn't immediately spring to mind.

Thank you, for talking your time for writing such a detailed review!

It is true we do host different types of guests, but for sure there is no excuse for a restless night. We do regret that we could not help you earlier to keep the noise level appropriate for the daytime.

Even as your stay was not to your satisfaction and your feedback does not flatter our hotel, we absolutely thank you therefore. Besides your style of writing, which was nice to read, you absolutely pointed out what you have disliked during your stay with us. Such a review will completely help us to improve our service and will help to avoid such inconveniences in future.

Nevertheless it seems you kept your British sense of humor and it absolutely would be a pleasure for us to welcoming you back at MEININGER to prove that we are able to progress.

Once again thank you and kind regards!

Clean, simple room with bunk bed and double bed (family with two kids). OK but slightly chaotic breakfast. Nice walk to the city centre. (15 minutes). Staff friendly. Seems to be a hotel for younger travelers, but there were no disturbances during the night.

It is not right in the center but there is a bus stop right next to it. It is only 2km from the center so in 20 min you can get there by foot also. Staff was extremely polite and willing to help. Did not try the breakfast. Rooms very clean. We had a room with 6 beds (we were in a family vacation). If the room is not shared I find it equally nice to many hotels of 3 and sometimes 4 stars I have been .. (and I travel a lot). The hotel does not have many amenities, but for sleeping is excellent. Parking underground is free for 4 hours, 11 euros for the whole day. Very nice! And offers free Wifi.

Room Tip: This is a hostel If I understand well. We were a large family and for us a room with 6 beds (ono sha...

For a solid price you get accomodation near city center (10-15 minutes by foot), free Wi-Fi, good breakfast, clean room with tv and air-conditioner, very kind staff. Next to hotel is a public garage where you can park your car for extra charge (not to expensive). Things you might not like are bit to small rooms and noisey street.

Pros:
- Room amenities (TV, desk, wardrobe, couch, toiletries, towels, hair-dryer)
- View of the mountains
- Lovely staff
- Bike hire in the summer months
- Free map
- Nice design and interiors
- Hot shower with high pressure
- Good wifi connection

Cons:
- Downloading on the wifi is blocked
- Location - it's a fair walk to the city sights

I really like this hotel and it is a real pity about the location which is a particularly significant 'con'. However, I imagine the location is why the price is so good. It's a nice (long) walk into the main town - even better if you are there outside of winter and can hire a bike. The hotel is very clean and modern.

There is an option for breakfast at the hotel for 5 Euro. It's the usual buffet breakfast seen everywhere in Europe. For dinner, there is an amazing (and always packed) restaurant nearby called Brauhaus Fürberg. We ate here every night - it was so good!

Cost: we paid around 28 Euro for a double (two twin beds together)

Room Tip: We stayed in room 311 - had no problems, had a nice view out the window
