The hotel itself is lovely, really old and nicely furnished. It is also in a very goo location and very handy for exploring Salzburg. However, the hotel didn't have ANY aircon and it just so happened that whilst we were there there was a mini heatwave and it was above 30 degrees! We were melting in our room. Even with the windows open, it didn't make any difference, plus our room looked over the street, which was ok noise wise during the night, but we were woken by the bin men, road sweeper and people setting the cafes up at 6am which didn't help the situation. I asked the staff if they had a fan or anything but they said they don't have any fans until July. My advice to anyone thinking of staying at this hotel would be; if you are planning on going in the winter then it will be lovely, the hotel itself is nice but do not stay there in the summer, you will melt in the heat. The staff explained to me that the reason they don't have aircon is that it is such an old building, which is understandable, but they should have some alternative. This is definitely not a 5* hotel, it was no better than the 4* hotels we have stayed in. Oh and the breakfast is really expensive. We didn't have any as we thought 26 Euros each was a bit excessive.

The location of this hotel perfect. Walk out the back entrance directly to the cobblestone streets of old Salzburg. Large room. Large bathroom. Comfortable bed. Nice cafe with outdoor seating. Short walk to everything in Old Salzburg and to the pedestrian bridge over the river. Helpful staff making reservations, etc. Highly recommend this hotel!

Location really is paramount with this hotel built in the 14th century. In the heart of the old city this idiosyncratic building is full of character and the staff were unfailingly friendly and helpful.

We stayed in Room 310 for 6 nights, looking out on the Judengasse, and enjoyed the view of the medieval streets and the fortress. Spacious and well-equipped, it was a little on the dark side because of the stunning dark wood carved beams covering the ceiling. We did regret the lack of tea and coffee making facilities as others have mentioned.

We booked room only because of the cost of eating in the hotel, choosing to have breakfast in the cafe next door for less than half the price. However the hotel's own cafe downstairs was an excellent choice for coffee and cake, as well as lunch.

Room Tip: Rooms on the river side [Rudolfskai] are likely be disturbed by noise from bars on the street below. Ask to look out over Judengasse.

We just stayed there with a tour group. It's a lovely old hotel, but even with the windows open it was very warm & difficult to sleep. Plus there was a lot of noise from the street. The breakfast was excellent. There was only one elevator which made it difficult for our luggage.

We had a wonderful stay in Salzburg over Christmas 2013. The hotel itself was very nice, its a small boutique hotel in a great location where you can walk to everything in town. We were there over Christmas and all the Christmas markets were right outside which was nice! The rooms were very spacious and nice however they do not have king beds only two singles pushed together, which we did not mind because they were comfortable.

Unfortunately I had to give this hotel an average rating because of the service we received. It was average to poor during our stay to say the least. We were at the hotel for 5 days and had 4 rooms, 3 regular rooms and a suite so our whole family could be together for Christmas. Each day we would go to the front desk and ask for help booking dinner places or things to do and sometimes no one was there to help us. When someone was there our reservations were often messed up or not even made when we arrived. Eventually we just started booking things on our own. One time we asked for directions to dinner and they advised us to take a cab which cost $30 per cab (we needed two) and later found out there was a path right behind the hotel that took you to a tram up the mountain right to the restaurant. They never told us that was even there which was poor on their part. The people at the restaurant told us after we told them about our cab ride then hike up a huge hill to get to the restaurant at the castle. We also went to the bar for drinks every night and had to find someone every night to serve us. There was never anyone there waiting or even around to know we wanted to be served. There were several things that made the service poor which I hate to say because we did enjoy our rooms and location of the hotel very much. If the service improved this would be a great experience!
