This place can be packed, and for a good reason. The food served is mainly typical Austrian fare of excellent quality. Wiener Schnitzel is one of the best I had in Austria, and also the pork and beef dishes are excellent.
It is located on the ground floor of the hotel with the same name in the Old Town.
Would highly recommend this place, but I understood that the place (hotel and restaurant) will change owner in January, and I am not sure what will happen to this place.

Thank morevish

The restaurant was wonderful! In my party, we tried the Truffled Potato Soup, the Goulash Soup, Roasted Pork with Sauerkraut in White Beer Sauce, the Goulash Dinner, and the Apple Streudle. ALL of the dishes were great, but the pork and the streudle were the best!! The staff was very friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere was cozy and charming. We wily definitely be regulars if we were local!

We had a wonderful dinner of pork schnitzel, beef goulash and the best dessert anywhere - Salzburg Nockerln (a tzpe of souffle with raspberry sauce). The waitresses were prompt, and cared about the fact that we were sitting ourselves upstairs, so they worked hard to move us to just the right spot downstairs. Goldener Ente is located along one of the beautiful side alleyways that makes Salzburg so much fun to walk around. We went because of the great reviews on almost all websites. But sad to say, we wanted to pass along that they will be closing January 6, 2014. They will be reopening as a new restaurant, Zum Zirkewirt, at Papagenoplatz (whether the wonderful dessert makes the transition remains to be seen - perhaps the subject of another future review by someone?) Meanwhile, if you're going to be in Salzburg before they close, we strongly suggest to stop in.

My wife and I only spent the day in Austria and we were both thankful we came here. Food and atmosphere were authentic and amazing. The truffle soup was absolutely delicious. My wife had turkey schnitzel and I had the goulash. We left stuffed and extremely satisfied.

Service was prompt and friendly. The atmosphere was cozy. We both left feeling we experienced a little more of Austria having eaten here.

The kind of savory meaty goodness that make you forget it's 20oF outside. We had to wait about 20 mins for a table, the beer definitely made seem like only 5 mins
