This hotel is walking distance to most of the sights in the old town. If you arrive in Salzburg by car, however, it is a pain to access the narrow, cobbled pedestrian only area in order to drop off your luggage before parking your car about 750 metres away. Our superior room, though nice with comfortable beds had a view of...nothing -just a concrete wall that someone had thoughtfully covered with a fabric tapestry showing a mountain scene! Extremely tacky! Hotel restaurant was very good.

Very charismatic traditional hotel located in a narrow side street in the old city. It was a bit of a performance to arrive at the hotel by car as you have to go through the barriers into the pedestrian area. At as there is a restaurant at the hotel with tables on the street is was a slightly embarrassing performance to get up the street to unload bags.

However once we were over that it was the perfect location for wandering around the old streets of the city.

The room, although a tad small was very comfortable, clean and well equipped although it was very noisy in the early hours but perhaps that was building work near by?

Room Tip: Although it was nice to be in a room overlooking the street and the Fortress on the top of the hill...

We stayed for a few nights. When we got there our air conditioners didn't work. They were able to move my husband and I to a new room, but they were full and had some fans to offer my friends, until the maintenance man could come the next day as it was late. I thought it was thoughtful, some might have complained and demanded a maintenance man to come now and then. But when your only there to sleep who cares, you'll be so tired from site seeing that a little hot room wouldn't phase you. It worked out fine, it wasn't that hot anyway. The staff were great. They helped us with the bus system, finding a restaurant, and a clock store, and even loaned us an umbrella when we went on the fountain tour. The rooms were clean and large with sitting area. We did have a small shower but that seemed to be the trend in all of our hotel rooms despite having upgraded rooms. Great place.

We stayed at the Elefant for 2 nights (21-23 June) in an executive room but it was more like a suite, with a separate bedroom and seating area....plus an added bonus of a lovely little balcony. The room was very clean and modern with a comfortable bed. The location was perfect. On a previous visit we stayed at the Sheraton which was at the end of the Mirabel Gardens but much preferred the location of the Elefant in the old town. We had a delicious Elefant burger in the evening in the hotel bar and the staff were so helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: Our executive room facing the back of the hotel was very roomy with separate bedroom and seating are...

Even the Superior Double rooms are tiny. Our view was of a wall that had scenery wallpaper on it. The next building to us was about 3 ft. away from our window. We only stayed one night. Maybe that's the reason for the tiny room with no view. Felt so closed in that I was unable to sleep however on a good note room 303 is very quiet. No way I could have stayed in that room for 3 or 4 nights. There is a TV in the room but due to the wall separating the bed from the sit area there's no way to see they TV while in bed. We had dinner and lunch here and both were excellent. Try the Elefant Pan. It was yummy.

If you are planning to visit Salzburg -- stay here. Look no further. The price is right, the accommodations are perfect, and the location is spot on. Booked three rooms here for two nights for my family of five (three teenagers). For starters, the location -- directly in the heart of old town -- could not be better. On top of that, each of the rooms (we had 3 categories, a suite, a single room, and a double room) were good sized, comfortable, and charming. The staff were equally charming and helpful. One of our boys was ill, and they helped us find a doctor to see him (he was directly across the street and charged us nothing for the visit). We ate here one night as well, and the meal was as good -- if not better -- than the one we had the next night at a stand - alone (and more expensive) restaurant. I've traveled for decades throughout Europe and can say -- without equivocation -- that you won't be disappointed if you stay at the Hotel Elefant.

10 minutes in a taxi and you are there from the train station. About 1 minute walk to you get to Mozart's birth place. Can't get any more old town than that. We had a big room, comfy king bed with 2 very warm doonas, a couple of single arm chairs, table and TV. Bathroom clean with toilet and basin, all near the front door. Restaurant located right next door was great as we ate their 2 out of 3 nights after coming back late from day trips. Travelling with a 3.5 year old on my own this time, staff were very helpful and looked after us well. The called a taxi to pick us up right from the door step back to the train station. Close to where day trips come to collect, only a few minutes walk. Big buses cannot come into the very narrow streets where the hotel is situated. Would highly recommend.
