We spent 3 nights at the Bristol as part of a Great Rail Journey and we will definitely return for a longer stay. The staff and management are all attentive and pleasant, and the reception staff extremely helpful. They even managed to book 6 of our group front row seats for the chamber music concert in the fortress the same night. We had room 363 at the back so weren't disturbed by the church bells, and the room was decorated and equipped to a very high standard with a very comfortable bed. The only 2 improvements we could suggest would be tea making and free wi-fi, but there is a computer cupboard in reception for checking emails. There was a safe, minibar, TV, bathrobes, umbrella, luxury toiletries, fresh flowers and ample power points, plus 4 lovely chocolates on our arrival. Every night next to the amazing period lift there was a big dish of Suchard chocolates plus a bowl of fresh apples on the reception desk. Our evening meals were very good with excellent service and the sumptuous breakfast buffet had everything, even champagne! Right behind the hotel is the Mirabelle Park, and the Old Town and Supermarket are an easy walk just across the river. With a Salzburg card you can get into attractions free and use public transport. We also used it for a free trip on the river which had an unusually witty finale, plus the funicular to the fortress for the chamber concert, which was marvellous and in such a magnificent setting. The bonus is that after the concert you get the best view of the city lit up at night before descending for an easy stroll back to the hotel. Our stay definitely left us wanting more and full marks to the owners and their excellent staff.

Booked 2 junior suites online for 2 nights. We arrived and were told we were upgraded to 2 suites. When we got to the room, we saw a room that looks like it could be in a movie. Chandeliers, separate living room, beautiful bath. The only thing I didn't like about the room was that 1 room had Air conditioning in the bedroom only and the other in the living room. When I inquired about changing rooms to one with Air Conditioning, there wasn't any available. We asked for a fan and it was fine. Breakfast was ok . Location by mirabella gardens and across the bridge from the old town. If it's hot and you want a suite, ask for a bedroom with the air conditioning as the bedroom can get very hot. Maid service was great. You'll feel as though you're in palace in this place. It's a really quite place and when I walked down the halls I never heard or saw anyone.

Stepping into the Hotel Bristol is definitely a return to a glamorous, film star past - right down to the framed signed photos on the walls of various celebrities. The lift alone makes you think of a 1930s thriller. The rooms are large and luxurious, and you can get views over the city if you are lucky. The only let down is the catering, which isn't up to its 5 star status (Breakfast and dinner were a real disappointment) and the noisy air conditioning.

This review is only about seven months late, but I had to write it. My wife and I spent six weeks in Europe last fall. The Bristol was far and away the nicest place we stayed. Staff was excellent, and I mean everyone. Great service without the stuffiness. Breakfast was amazing. Room was very very nice.(deluxe double). If you are in Salzburg, a stay here is a must.

Having walked the streets of Salzburg on a drizzly May evening looking for a place to stay, what a pleasure it was to find the Hotel Bristol. From the warm welcome and speedy service from Miriam at the desk to the excellent room, first class service and wonderful food it was all great. We stayed an extra night. This hotel has warmth and an excellent breakfast.

Had to book a quick hotel as our plans changed and trusted the reviews on this site. Glad I did. Hotel is lovely and in a great location just a very quick walk to the main shopping area and the old city. A real grand hotel in a fantastically beautiful city.

After much research i booked 3 nights superior doubles at The Bristol. I had previously booked a 4* hotel in the old town about a year in advance but a couple of month before we went its reviews seem to go down hill a bit and the hotel was not responding to my e.mails.
Am i glad we switched to The Bristol it is perfect in every way. You can get better deals through websites like booking.com and 1800hotels.com. We booked with 1800hotels.com as they were the only website we could find with rooms other than standard.
From the minute we arrived we were made to feel welcome, relaxed and comfortable.
Its location could not be better just a few minutes walk to all the main tourist sites in the old town and Mirabell gardens at the back, r Mozarts residence at the front. Perfect.
The rooms were spacious and very clean. Maid service is twice a day. You can always put the do not disturb sign on if you don't want them to keep coming in. The bedding is changed daily. There were safes, mini bars, robes, slippers, toiletries, and tv's in the rooms. We had a couple of bottles of water out of the mini bar - 2.50 euro each which we did not think was too bad.
The lift is very quirky, (they leave chocolates just outside every night). Try taking the stairs even if you are on the top floor that is a treat in itself.
The breakfast room is a dream, a nice selection of hot and cold foods to suit all tastes and yes there really is champagne for breakfast. The waitress we had was outstanding, so kind, well manered and polite. We gave her a tip on the last day of our stay.
We had previousy stayed at the Radisson in the old town- there the staff were at times rude and unhelpfull. The service at the Kasererbrau was poor aswell. I had read that this is normal in Salzburg but we found out this year that this is just not true. The Bristol staff are brilliant and second to none.
Our rooms were on the top floor with a lovely views of the city. There is a church just across the road and the bells ring the time every 15 mins - they do stop at night and start at 7am, this did not bother us as it all added to the atmosphere and we wanted to be up and out anyway. If you want a quieter room e.mail the hotel in advance and ask them for a room at the back.
To eat out walk across the bridge into the old town go across both crossings and then just to the right is a place called Sternbrau, the prices and food are both good. There is still smoking in public places in Salzburg but this place has a smoking and non smoking side. Beer prices even at the hotels are quite reasonable about 3 euros a pint.
There is a massive difference between a 4* and 5* hotel in Salzburg, if you can afford it go for the 5* it is definately worth it.
We called in at The Sacher for cakes and coffee which was quite nice but i am still glad we booked the Bristol, The Sacher was just a bit too posh for us, all dicky bow and evening dress sort of thing.
The Salzburg card is a must if you are site seeing - it can save a fortune. We bought ours from the hotel.
We got a 24 hour pass for 22 euro and went to the fort, the catacombes, Mozarts birthplace, we caught bus 25 (straight outside the hotel) to Untersberg mountain, Hellbrunn Palace and trick fountains and the zoo which is just a short walk away from Hellbrunn. We caught the bus back to the city, public transport is free with the card, even to and from the airport if you want.
