“Outright rude service level”
Reviewed 11 January 2014

After our holiday in Slovenia we decided to visit the splendid city of Salzburg for two days on our way back home. We had a very nice reception from the staff member. As we were travelling with our almost 2-year old daughter, this receptionist said she would arrange a baby cot. I told her that was not nessecary, because we had one in our car but she informed us it was free of charge. The room was fine and were were advised that we could have coffee or tea anytime we liked. So, we really felt we had made the right choice for a hotel - although the rate was pretty steep. However, the next day we encountered an other staff member, who, when we politely asked for a cup of coffee, responded that this was not a 'coffeehouse'. We were shocked by this response, so I told him that the day before we heard about a different policy. Upon that, he started complaining about his colleague. The rest of the day he gave us disturbing, cynical looks. We felt most unwelcome. The next morning, when we were checking out, we were charged for the baby cot after all - by yet another staff member. After a very unpleasant and heated argument, I was finally 'allowed' to leave without paying for this extra service. Conclusion: great city, good location, fine room, but terrible treatment. If you value hospitality and service, don't go here. I'm a frequent business traveller and I genuinely never had a similar experience.

Loved this hotel - enormous triple room, beautiful decor, delicious breakfast, great coffee, fabulous location right in centre of old town. Beds were very comfortable. Quiet at night. Classical music played at break fast in vaulted ceiling room.

A bit of a challenge to find but great proximity to Kaigasse & Mozartplatz. Had to park in a public parking lot a couple blocks away but the hotel validated the ticket. The woman checking us in was very cordial. Elevator is very 'cozy'. Room was a bit modest but clean with a comfortable bed. Bathroom was also modest but clean and adequate. Lovely breakfast room, a somewhat limited selection but good service and tasty food. Overall, not cheap but a nice little place in a great location.

I was there in July. The breakfast room is so lovely, the food great and abundant, the staff friendly. The last day, this couple was dressed in traditional costume. A nice touch. The room is fine too. I was a bit warm in a rear room at that time of the year. The rooms to the street are likely much cooler. But everything was clean and comfortable.

Room Tip: In the front if it's summertime. Highly recommend this hotel for it's atmosphere, breakfast...

It's a wonderful very Austrian hotel with a contemporary feel of the room we stayed in. The room was small but funky and functional. Breakfast was simple yet more than adequate especially if you are into meats.

I would be more than happy to return to this hotel when going to Salzburg

Stayed here in August 2013. It's really charming, clean, comfortable, and perfectly located in the center of town. While it's not "historic", it has plenty of character. The older couple who run it clearly love the place. As noted by others, the husband is friendly and helpful, but the wife is grumpy and walks around frowning all the time, it's kind of funny actually, just don't ask her for any favors. However she puts out a fantastic breakfast spread, so they make a good team. The place has some quirks typical of old places, like the floors creak, the doors squeak, no AC (or fans), terrible internet. Plus it's kind of pricey. So it ain't perfect, but I liked it anyway. Bring earplugs if you're staying here in summer, as you'll need to open the windows at night and street noise may bother you.

Nice, little place perfectly situated in Salzburg. You walk right out into the middle of everything. The place is small but really satisfactory by all measures for a couple. Clean and in excellent repair despite being 600 years old! Wifi only in the breakfast room and lobby. Breakfast quite good. The desk help could have been a little bit more attentive but that was easy to overlook. We would recommend this as a good value and a convenient stay in Salzburg.
