“Wonderful and Historical”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

On our trip to Salzburg we spent a lot of time exploring the old town. We found it much easier to travel by bicycle and park and then explore different areas. Coming from Vienna we found Salzburg to be much more laid back and enjoyable. It wasn't as crowded and it seemed more historical and special. There are plenty of shops and landmarks to see. We found the cafes and restuarants to be quite expensive. We often bought delicious sandwiches and juices from the little supermarkets in the old town and then found a shady spot to eat and people watch. There is so much to see and explore here, don't miss out.

“Good place to walk around”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

The old town was about 20 minutes from the train station. We walked it on the way there. I think we should have taken the bus. Everything is close together and you can easily walk from one attraction to the next. You come upon an old bake shop and get a fresh baked sweet roll for one euro. Nice find! We followed Rick Steve's walking tour in his Bavarian area book. This really helped. We also purchased the Salzburg Card which included transportation and most of the museums including the furnicular ride up to the castle.

“The Mozart Town: SALZBURG”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

You might have seen the city of salzburg in movies and it is famous World-over for two things, first is the Salzburg Castle and second is Mozart, the famous artist who was born here. These two famous places are situated in the old town and the old city is connected well with local buses from the railway station. If you have just stopped by in the town for the day and has to hop on a train in the evening you can keep your luggage at the train station where luggage keepers are installed on the payment of some money and is all computerized so you do not have to worry about security. That will save you check in a hotel money which you can spend on doing much more fun things in the city. So,when you reach old town you will be attracted to chocolate outlets with mozart printed most of them and these are exclusive of the city,do not give it a miss.Take it as gifts and do not forget to try chocolate rum balls which taste heavens. So,while you go checking the beautiful market you will get to see Mozart's native home in one of the streets, its beautiful and the guide in front will open a whole door to this artists life.
After that you can walk up to the entry of the castle at the tip of the hill, remember to keep the castle visit as your second last as you will have the most amazing time up.On the entrance of the castle there are hut shops lined up selling all kind of stuff exclusive to the town plus you will find horse carts which can show you around the town on shedding some euros. So,the way up to castle has two choices either take the lift or go trekking.I advice the second if you are good on health, this way you will enjoy the view as you go up and also its free.On reaching up you can take a break and guess what you will find restaurants which are made out of the castles hallways and rooms.Take a drink at the famous hall way restaurant which looks like a church and the waiters are dressed as father. Then you can go around seeing the castle inside and you can read or ask the guides about any thing and every thing who are available on all sides. So,you go out at the balcony and enjoy the breathtaking view of the castle and click some amazing pictures. You can spend some time watching the city and see through telescope at important points.Coming back is fun and when you are down the last thing to see is the Lovers bridge which falls on the way,you can tie a lock and through the key in the river and wish some thing for your love, they say it comes true. After, crossing the river you can sit across the river as the sun set and enjoy the beauty of the start as it starts lighting up...have a great time, happy travelling mates..:)

“Day visit from Vienna”
Reviewed 17 August 2014 via mobile

Took a day trip from Vienna by train. Easy 2 hour journey and 4 hours in salzburg was enough for those time challenged. Mozart birth place and apartment, coffee and cake and walk around in old Town .there is more to do and see but time ran out for me. Buy a return train ticket so open to go and return in your time(€90) and buy day bus tram ticket at station to get around (€3).
