There is hardly any good looking building in the old town which is less than 100 years ! Someone quipped that the "oldest bookstore of Austria" is 15th Century! The Zipfer tavern is over 100!

Loved walking around Salzburg. I did find the touristy shops all the same with not much from the area. However, the views and tourist attractions of where to visit were wonderful.

Remember to check out the local food market and don't be afraid to check out some of the courtyards. You might find some hidden shops and really nice cafes.

Possibly the nicest area in Salzburg. Nice live music through the day, lovely area around Stein River, Mozart house, the restaurant on top of the Modern Art Museum is great.

On our trip to Salzburg we spent a lot of time exploring the old town. We found it much easier to travel by bicycle and park and then explore different areas. Coming from Vienna we found Salzburg to be much more laid back and enjoyable. It wasn't as crowded and it seemed more historical and special. There are plenty of shops and landmarks to see. We found the cafes and restuarants to be quite expensive. We often bought delicious sandwiches and juices from the little supermarkets in the old town and then found a shady spot to eat and people watch. There is so much to see and explore here, don't miss out.
