Yoho International Youth Hostel
Reviewed 27 July 2014

Yoho was easy to find from the train station, and was only about a 10 minute walk. I would say the hostel itself wasn't very impressive. It was far too large to have any personality, and was very expensive to boot, but it was a bed in an expensive city, so any other place would have been more expensive. You had to pay for breakfast, but it was tasty.

Yoho is definitely one of the better hostels that I have stayed in.

Salzburg is a small city, so the location of the hostel a little bit out of the main tourist areas is not any problem. If anything, being a little bit away from the action makes it quieter.

The hostel was super clean - sinks in the rooms were well maintained, the toilets were always clean everyday, and the shower cubicles were great with a small walk in part for each cubicle where you could hang clothes/towels.

The staff were all locals and very friendly and ready to provide help with any question, including helping me locate a store to purchase an Austrian simcard.

Tours can be organised from the front desk with pick-ups from the hostel.

Breakfast was a little bit mixed - cereals, milk and yoghurt was fresh, but bread was a little stale sometimes.

Other than that, it's difficult to ask Yoho to do much more - just brilliant.

Stayed in Salzburg for one night during our holiday from Munich to Italy. Lovely youth hostel, with friendly staff that were more than helpful. Showers were very clean and in excellent condition. Would recommend this hostel for a weekend stay.

This hostel, Yoho International Youth Hostel, was expensive and simply not worth the money. We stayed here one night in a four person room. The hostel was too large, it seemed like a factory out to make money. You paid money for the towels. You got the beddings in the reception and returned them there after your stay. We ended up in one of the top floors with only a tiny elevator to bring us up there(it's a huge building and we had a lot of luggage).

The bathroom situation is a disaster. On every floor there are one toilet for men and one toilet for women. There is one room with a two showers - for both men and women combined. However... every floor has too many rooms with too many beds for this small amount of toilets and showers. Expect to be queueing a lot! Luckily there is at least a sink and a mirror in the room.

The lockers in the rooms are quite nice. Big and controlled by the room key cards, so you don't have to bring your own lock for them.

This hostel lacked warmth and soul. It was also a long walk from the city centre and it was nearly impossible to find a parking space in the streets around it.

Salzburg is a lovely town, but my friends were so disappointed by this hostel that they didn't like the town. We regretted not spending our money on a hotel instead - it would've come approximately to the same amount.

This hostel is a bit to big for its own good. Always lines for the showers. The wifi was awful.
The staff is helpful though, the breakfast is cheap and good and so is the bar at night.
Beds are alright, but there weren't enough electrical sockets.

I stayed at this hostel for 2 nights while in salzburg. We paid 38.50 each for a private room which was a little bit expensive but the room was big and clean and we had a balcony to ourselves which was a nice bonus. Shower was good and the beds were comfy. The eating area is nice and the breakfast is pretty good for the price you pay. The hostel is in a good location for the sights and the little shop just across the road is so handy!

We stayed in Yoho hostel in August 2013 for 2 nights. The hostel itself is large, mainly made up of dorms (mixed or single sex). These are pretty basic but comfortable and have lockers to put all of your belongings in. They have a bar which has a happy hour and free breakfast is also provided in the morning (basic continental breakfast). They also show the Sound of Music every evening at 7pm in the bar for all the Sound of Music enthusiasts! The location of the hostel is pretty central, about a 5 minute walk from Salzburg's main street. Salzburg itself is beautiful, with intricate streets and great scenery. The only thing to mention is that because it's such a small city a lot of places shut on a Sunday- unfortunately we were only there for 2 days and one of them was a Sunday! We spent most of the day doing the Sound of Music tour (highly recommended!) so it wasn't a huge problem, but something to bear in mind. Good base for exploring the beautiful streets of Salzburg!
