Hotel Schweizerhof Kitzbuehel, Sport- & Beautyhotel

Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 26 March 2011

In mid-March, my wife and I traveled to Kitzbuhel from Kentucky and spent four nights at the Sport & Beautyhotel before continuing our vacation in Vienna. We cannot say enough good things about this hotel, as it exceeded our expectations in nearly every aspect. Below are the key aspects that stood out to us.

1. Location: this hotel is no more than a three minute walk from the Kitzbuhel Hahnenkamm train station and is also directly across the street from the Hahnenkamm cable car that transports skiers to the top the mountain. The center of the town is an easy walk of less than 10 minutes with access to many restaurants, shops, the casino and other nightlife. The rental shop for ski equipment is only a couple of blocks from the hotel.

2. Customer Service: the staff at Hotel Schweizerhof could not have been better. They were friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. During the reservation process, Christian was very responsive and answered all of our questions about the town and the hotel. He also advised us on our travel options from Munich. During our visit, all of the staff (Sarah, Stephanie, etc.) were helpful with with directions, train schedules, taxis, hiking suggestions and plenty of other dumb questions that we threw at them.

3. Common Facilities: in general, the hotel is well maintained. Within the past 5 years or so, the hotel underwent a large renovation, so most of the hotel appears new. The building is attractive with a modern decor. The common areas of the hotel were clean and tastefully decorated. The hotel sits at the base of mountain. Outside the main entrance, there is a patio with tables where you can enjoy cocktails while overlooking the town. The patio contains heaters and blankets at each table. In the basement, there is a wellness center than contains an exercise room, a heated swimming pool, two saunas and a steam room. The basement also contains a separate room for securely storing ski and biking equipment. The hotel offers laundry service for an expensive rate, but has no self-serve facilities on the premises. If you need to do a load of laundry, there is a laudromat in town next door to the post office.

4. Hotel Room: our room was spacious with a nice view of the mountain. Our windows opened easily and we were able to enjoy fresh air in our room. We shared a double bed and were very pleased that it was covered with a duvet (as opposed to a nasty bed spread that we usually remove and throw in the corner of the room). The room was equipped with a small flatscreen television (no HD), but it did not matter to us as we rarely turned it on. The bathroom was nice with a walk-in shower. It was also equipped with a towel warmer, but it seldom worked properly. One thing missing was a bathtub. While it did not matter to us, some patrons may like to relax in a hot tub after a long day of skiing. One thing we did not like was the old carpet in our room on the 2nd floor. We would have preferred wood floors like the room on the 1st floor where our friends stayed. Another disappointment is that we had to pay extra for WiFi internet access. Many hotels now include internet access as an ammenity. With the price of our package exceeding 300 EUR per night, it should have been included.

5. Restaurant: our hotel package included breakfast and dinner at the hotel. Before arriving, we had low expectations for the meals (expected a basic continental breakfast and maybe a dinner buffet). However, the meals turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The dining room atmosphere was relaxing with white table cloths and included full waiter service. The food was good with breakfast being the best. The buffet had many selections including cold meats, cheeses, cereals, eggs, bacon, fruit and pastries. The wait staff was professional and attentive.

All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Sport & Beautyhotel and would definitely recommend it to anyone traveling to Kitzbuhel for a relaxing getaway.

We have just returned from a weeks skiing in wonderful Kitzbuhel.
The hotel Schweizerhof was in a really great location right on the slope.
Was worried from reading previous reviews we may have experienced train noise from the nearby station but this was not the case at all.We slept soundly every night.
Our holiday party comprised of two adults with a 10 and 7 year old.
Our hotel room was spacious and clean with a daily maid service.
Mealtimes at the hotel were always enjoyable. There was always a large choice and the waitresses were always very attentive.
Overall we had a great week and hope to return in 2012!

You can be assured of a typically warm Austrian welcome at the Schweizerhof from the friendly and helpful staff.

The Schweizerhof is ideally located for the main ski lift out of Kitzbuhel saving the long walk with skis that is necessary from so many of the hotels in this resort.

The hotel has been refurbished recently and the superior double rooms are of a good size even if the balcony is non-existent consisting of railings immediately in front of the patio doors. Choose a room facing the ski slopes if possible as the sacrifice of the town and Kitzbuhler Horn views from the front of the hotel is worth gaining a good night's sleep as you will be facing away from the railway line nearby.

Food is very good but perhaps lacks a little imagination when compared to some of the hotels I have stayed in previously in Austria and the packed lunches (free to Inghams guests) did become more that a little repetitive after two weeks.

The wellness area is excellent and the swimming pool is separated from the nude sauna area if you want to relax after a day's exercise but prefer to keep your clothes on.

Give the Schweizerhof a try, you will not be disappointed. We hope to return again in 2011.

Selected this hotel due to its location next to the Hahnenhamm lift, ski in position and good reviews online. It more than lived up to expectations with the extremely helpful and friendly staff putting the icing on the cake.

All areas of the hotel were miodern and clean, including the excellent pool and spa facilities - surprising quality for such a small hotel.

The rooms were bright, airy and roomy with comfy beds and down quilts.

The food was excellent - 5 courses every evening, usually with a choice of 3 main courses. Breakfast was a good quality, but typically european buffet - with hot bacon and eggs for the travelling brits :-)

10 minutes walk from the old town centre shops and attractions. Ideal for a winter or summer stay in Kitzbuhel.

We stayed at this hotel in July 2010, from the moment we checked in we knew we had made the right choice although having never been to Kitzbuhel before. We have been to Austria numerous times and we feel that this hotel although not the usual 'traditional looking' hotel gave us everything we needed and more. The staff were very helpful, service very good and hotel was immaculate. The food ticked all our boxes. The hotel was located opposite the Hahnenkamm cable car and was a short walk into the centre. The railway line was close to the hotel but this does not distract the qualities of the hotel and any noise was minimal. Overall a fantastic holiday albeit it rained most days, but we have not been put off we are returning this year July 2011. Jane & Alan Corfield, Birmingham.

We went as a family before christmas with children age 13 and 10. I booked an family apartment room and was initially disappointed with the size as I thought it would be bigger, but it turned out to be just perfect. 2 large double rooms, one more private, the other with bathroom off, both with tv. The staff were very friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. The food was very good although we went out 3 nights for a change of scene. The spa area was very relaxing and tranquil after a days skiing, although (being british) the sight of loads of naked germans was somewhat overcoming!! There is a great bar just below the hotel which is great for apres ski and has a fantastic atmosphere. The main lift is just opposite the hotel. I had read a trip advisor report before I booked the hotel and booked a room furthest from the railway line so we had no noise at all. Would definately be returning soon.
