“Our first time in Kitzy”
Reviewed 31 January 2012

We stayed here on an allocation on arrival basis . We normally stay in a different village nearby so it was our first time staying in 'ritzy kitzy'.

The hotel was fine. The room we had was very small but the hotel had done it out well although it wasn't as traditional in decor as you usually get in Austria. That could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your taste! The dining area is very traditional.

The staff were nice and there was an English lady working there when we visited although we think that she had been living there for a long time.

The room we had was small as I said but that ws ok except that we felt that we couldn't really open the curtains or window because of the balcony right next to our window where staff and visitors went to smoke. That was frustrating and took away a bit of the romance!

Kitzbuhel is a lovely place, very pretty.

I would say that the food at this hotel didn't really meet my expectations as I had high hopes from stays at other hotels in the area.

However, for a cheaper deal it was comfortable and pleasant.

The best thing about the hotel is it's location, right in the centre of town. It's not a noisy town except for the Jahr Markt in July/August from what we'd seen.

Room Tip: We had one of the first rooms next to reception and had problems from the smoking balcony.

My wife and i have just returned from spending Christmas skiing in Kitzbuhel. Firstly, what a beautiful village, i have skied in several countries and numerous resorts but Kitzbuhel is something else.
We stayed at the Strasshofer Hotel, located right in the town centre and after being slightly put off this hotel by Tripadviser reviews in the past, want to set the record straight.
Admittedly the location makes transfer drop offs almost impossible and as such we were dropped off as close as possible, only litterally a couple of hundred yards away. This didn't bother me or my wife and we just carried our bags straight to the hotel, however, a few other guests were not so happy.
Once at the hotel, the receptionist was efficient and polite and we were soon in our 3rd floor room cosy and warm. Again, the fact that the hotel doesn't have a lift didn't initially bother us as we quickly carried our bags upstairs. One thing to point out is that the owner is very obviously into hunting as this can be gained from the many photo's and trophies mounted throughout the whole hotel, not something that put either of us off but could offend some.
The food is from a simple menu and is perfectly adequat for the grade of the hotel if not surpassing it. The waitress and receptionist are both ready and willing to help with any requests you may have. We ate very well and although there are many great looking restaurants in Kitzbuhel, never felt the need to eat elsewhere.
The room we stayed in was right at the top of the hotel and facing the side, overlooking a few rooftops,it was quiet and fine for our needs. Other guests who stayed at the front mentioned the noise of "revellers and party goers enjoying themselves" woke them a few times during the week. All i can say is that "Apres Ski" is all part of the appeal of skiing holidays isn't it?
The hotel was very warm, friendly and spotlessly clean, literally miles better than some 4* hotels we've stayed in.
The resort of Kitzbuhel is very, very picturesque and also, something that i have never read anywhere about Kitzbuhel, upmarket and posh. Next door but one to the hotel was a Louis Vuitton boutique and along the town centre, a string of other upmarket brand names stood out. Another thing that stood out too, was that fact the shops all closed at around 1700-1800hrs. Normally they are open until around 2100-2200hrs in other resorts to allow the holiday makers to spend their money.
The skiing, which is what we went for really, was good, as to be expected from Kitzbuhel. The weather wasn't quite perfect but that's what happens early in the season, last year was after all a one off! But we did have enough snow and the runs and lift systems were all great. We rented a heated ski looker at the base of the Hahnenkamm lift and simply walked there in our winter footwear and not ski boots. This cost 40Euros (for two) and was well worth the money.
One point to make is that after a day or so of hard skiing, walking back up three flights of stairs at the hotel, will more than likely take it's toll on you!
We had a really good stay at the Strasshofer and would happliy stay there again should we ever return to Kitzbuhel, and highly reccomend this accomodation to anyone who appreciates a well run family hotel.

Room Tip: There is no lift / elevator so please be aware if you have difficulty climbing stairs, a 1st floor r...

We stayed here for a week in September 2011 as part of a package holiday on 'special offer' with Inghams. For the price we paid I thought it was good value. The hotel was clean & quiet with an excellent location right in the centre of town.We found the staff friendly & the food good & plentiful( although not particularly varied ).Our room was clean & comfortable & located on the first floor with a lovely view over the mountains. The hotel does not have a lift so if you do not like climbing stairs avoid rooms on the upper floors.

We stayed here in August for a week and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the holiday. We booked through Inghams on the internet and paid only £800 for 2 adults and my 13 year old daughter. The full price was £1930 what a saving. We were given an apartment and it it was absolutely brilliant. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent but some of the other guests turned their noses up at meal times (ungrateful idiots). We would love to go back in the ski season but I don't know if we could afford full price. We'll keep checking for late deals!!!!

We stayed at the Strasshofer in July.We were given an apartment in the annex which was beautiful. The apartment had a very large modern bathroom ,large double bedroom Kitchen and lounge area all equipped to a good standard. To get to the reception area we had to climb 97 stairs, great training for the mountain walks, but you could walk a few yards along the main road and go up to the top road on a public lift and walk back to the hotel entrance.
We stayed half board and the food was adequate but no choices, so not good for fussy eaters. The staff were all friendly including the owners wife (much maligned in other reviews), if you treat people with smiles you get them back
