Thsi is the 3rd time we have stayed at the Strasshofer, it's our favourite hotel in Kitzbuhel. the rooms at the back have great views of the Kitzbuheler Horn.

One step out of the front door and your in the main pedestrian area, which is very convenient.

The hotel does not have a lift, we did not find that a problem at all as there are only 3 floors, but it is obvious that some people do not read the brochure before the book and trend to grumble about the fact.

The hotel is very very clean and the food is of a good standard, we have always found the owners and staff more than helpful and friendly and we will be returning.

My wife and I stayed here for a weeks skiing and we found it absolutely fine. Yes there is no lift and there are a lot of stairs - so don't stay there if this is a problem. The rooms are kept neat and clean and are very comfortable. The rooms are relatively small but absolutely fine - we had a room on the top floor at the front of the building and occaisionally it was noisy but that's Kitzbuhel not the hotel.

The food was excellent and so long as you don't treat the hotel as you mum's house and expect them to adjust to you without asking then they will happily make changes for you. The staff are friendly but professional; again they are not your mum!

Your experience of the Strasshofer will depend on two things. 1. What you want from a holiday 2. Where your room is located.
If you want to go to dinner in your bermuda shorts or no footwear then you will be told that this is unacceptable in a way that Basil Fawlty would be proud of. (You should head for the Hofer hotel instead.) If on the other hand you want to avoid smelly feet and 'beach party' wear (as Herr Strasshofer put it) then the Strasshofer will suit you.
People with rooms at the back of the hotel seemed to be the happiest. We booked late so ended up in the attic at the front. The Strasshofer is in a beautiful part of town. Unfortunately there is a nightclub next door that boomed music between 12 and 2. An additional problem is the noise from passing drunks through the small hours. Screaming, shouting, arguing and yodeling means that the only way to get to sleep is large doses of Jagermeister or Weizenbier. To be fair all the hotels in this area probably have the same problem.
Our attic room was small with a sloping roof which my wife hit her head on several times getting out of bed. There isn't a shower you can stand up in, again due to the sloping roof. However the room and hotel generally was spotless and well maintained.
Another group sold a 4 bedroom room by a travel agent complained that there were only three proper beds. Apparently its the travel agents fault which the Strasshofer continually remind them of.
Food was good austrian cuisine with prompt and courteous service. However the Strasshofers are very formal people and don't smile much which the much less formal Brits and possibly Americans could interpret as rudeness. However I don't think they mean to be. Its just their way.
The decor is very Austrian with a hunting theme (lots of antlers and heads on the walls) plus some real old and interesting paintings. The cute looking goats head on the wall (which we named Billy) may give the kids nightmares though.
Despite the room limitations and the noise we did enjoy our stay at the Strasshofer but would probably look for somewhere quieter next time.

We stayed at the Hotel Strasshofer from 31 January 2009 until the 6th February 2009. First impressions when you come in from the rear of the hotel are the stairs, there are loads of them! They are a nightmare to negotiate, especially when you have a suit case, ski boots and ski's. It would definitely be a good idea for them to have someone to help or get a lift installed somehow!

The room we got was small and cosy to say the least. Not a whole lot of space to move around in when you have all your luggage in. None the less, the beds were clean and comfy and made up everyday. The bathroom was a decent size and very clean, again done on a daily basis. We were not lucky enough to have a larger room (which are available in the hotel) or a room with a balcony, although there was a nice view from the window.

The food was good. Buffet style breakfast and one choice evening meal which was good considering it is a pretty small hotel with a small enough kitchen. The bar is small plus it closes at 10.30pm.

The location is great. Its on the main street with easy access to bars and restaurants. Plus its a short walk to the slopes or to the ski bus.

Overall, if you can there mainly for skiing and are not overly concerned with the luxury of your hotel, then the strasshofer is for you. For what you are paying for, it is decent value.

We have recently returned from a glorious week in Kitzbuhel. Having read the reviews on this site we had major concerns about our hotel choice. The Strasshofer proved to be first class. Our room had a fabulous view of the mountains, a huge bathroom, and was delightfully Austrian in decor. The staff were courteous and helpful, the location was in the centre of town, and the food was wholesome. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for central ,clean, well priced accommodation.

We stayed here as part a good value package from Crystal. Very clean and bedroom cleaning staff very helpful. Had a large room, with balcony, on the 3rd floor with great view of the Kitzbuheler Horn. Breakfast was a fairly basic cold buffet but okay, dinner was good with the exception of one night. Only used the bar one night - lacks atmosphere and isn't cheap, typical hotel bar really. It is in an excellent location and if you can cope with the stairs, of which there are many, it offers good value.
