“Hotel Hofer, Kitzbuhel review - January 2013”
Reviewed 7 January 2013

Very disappointing. We booked a double room paying extra for private bath/shower/wc and balcony over New Year 2012/13. The room we were given was very small with barely enough room between the bed and the walls to get out of bed ! Carpet was very old and filthy with lots of black stains, bathroom plumbing was ancient with only intermittent hot water and mostly luke warm water. Only one spare plug socket in the room which was below the wall light switch so if you connected your phone for charging it would dangle against the wall or fall out of the charger. No hair dryer in the room either. Worst of all, the room comes with an old key operated saftey deposit box but without the key - if you want a key to use the box, the hotel charges an extra 30 euros !!!! Damn cheek.

Food was very basic, free beer was watered down and the wine barely drinkable. Plan to eat out as much as you can afford !

On the plus side, the Crystal staff were excellent and as friendly and helpful as possible. They advised that the hotel has been sold and will be knocked down in the summer (2013) and rebuilt as appartments. This would seem sensible from the owner's viewpoint as considerable sums need to be spent to upgrade the whole hotel and especially the ancient plumbing in order to bring it up to acceptable 3 star standards.

Access to Hahnenkam lift was easy by either ski bus or walking and the skiing generally good altho there are lots of short runs between lifts often on narrow and fairly flat paths. Best runs are down to Pass Thun, Kirchberg and Ski Rast. If you do the Streif (the hahnekamm downhill ski run) do it in the morning as it gets very badly chopped up and crowded in the afternoon.

Overall, I would recommend spending a bit more if you can and go to a better hotel.

Good luck !

Room Tip: Dont get fooled by paying for a private shower / bath / wc. Ask crystal to make sure you get the lar...

The Hofer is run by Crystal Ski holidays and whilst their employed staff do all they can, the hotel is very tired and run down. We paid extra for room 225, this was for a bath and balcony. The prices were very high because it was New Year week, but it was a rip off by Crystal. The room was very small, barely 12 inches either side of the bed. The bed fell apart when I sat on the end of it, falling through each time I sat too far onto the mattress. The carpet had stains on it, which obviously had been there some time. The bathroom was very old and there wasn't even enough hot water in the hotel - I had 1 hot bath during the week only because it simply wasn't hot enough to soak in, something to enjoy after a hard day skiing. Even on the morning we left the water wasn't even warm, so heaven knows when the water does warm up as we left our room at 6am.

Apparently this is the last season for this hotel as it will be pulled down to make way for new appartments - good job too, the standards are well below the expectation for the price we paid.

Room Tip: I was told all the rooms were different, so can't really help in chosing a good room. One fello...

Stay at the hotel Hofer with crystal ski holidays on an all inclusive basis (free bar in the evening). The hotel is half way between the two sides of the resort ski area and can be walked if your feeling fit or you can catch the bus which stops just a few metres from the entrance. The rooms were of a good size, they were basic but how much time do you want to stay in your room? The food was always plentiful and of a good quality. In general good value for money, the bar area could do with some better seating but that's about it.

This Crystal 'chalet hotel' is a good base for a holiday in Kitzbuhel for those on a budget. Rooms, although a little old fashioned, are of a reasonable size and with en suite facilities. The location isn't ideal but it's not awful either. It's a 10 to 15 minute walk to the Hahnenkahm gondola, which is where you want to go most mornings; there is a bus from near the Hofer for those who are happy to wait, but the bus back goes all round the town before returning to the hotel so it's quicker to walk.

Excellent staff team provided good service; and the beer (good) and wine (barely drinkable) is free until 10pm for residents. The food was very unadventurous and bland, bordering on canteen style and was a disappointment for me, though most people seemed happy with it. Breakfasts were ok. There is a sauna though it was never used during the rather warm week in late March when I was there.

The Crystal ski guides/resort representatives were very good - they also cover guests staying in a number of hotels across the town.

Room Tip: Some single rooms are available.

The Hofer is a Crystal ski chalet hotel in Winter and this is the second time my wife and I have stayed here The first time was just over three years ago - a stay which was not so good. This time, however I'm happy to report things have dramatically improved!

We (along with one of our female friends) decided to book this because we wanted to go back to ski in Kitzbuhel and there was a good deal on offer with All Inclusive board! I must admit that I had some reservations after reading some reviews saying that the hotel attracted groups of mainly young men who were only there to drink the All Inclusive beer. I needn't have worried, the majority of people in the hotel were small groups or couples.

The food was superb, with a good choice of menu, the breakfast was also really good, with plenty of choice. The All Inclusive also included a pack lunch, with a good choice of sandwich options. The free bar was very welcome as were the coffee and cakes.

Our rooms were very clean, the beds comfortable - although the hot water was a little patchy for very brief periods.

We had a great holiday and the Hotel Hofer played a big part in that.

Many thanks Hotel Hofer, and Crystal ski - we will be back!

booked last minute & didn't expect much but:
ROOM-eaves room 329, spacious & comfortable, falt screen TV with BBC channels. Mahoosive bathroom with corner bath & seperate shower cubicle, though shower didnt seem to work as we were probably the last on the water chain, this didnt mattet though as the bath was great. Plenty of hangers/hooks/storage space. Only minus was walking up 3 x flights of stairs (no lift) & this was tough on first day, getting heavy bags/skiis etc up there. Also no Hairdryer (take your own) & no kettle.

FOOD Excellent & plentyful. Cooked breakfast most mornings. Farewelll feast a treat. Packed lunch a bonus & choice of sandwich fillings. Only wine & lager on all inclusive, didnt like the red wine much but white wine spritzer nice. Good reds cheap to buy in the village, 2 x bottles of chilean red 5euros & they dont mind you taking this down to dinner. Big bowl of fruit everyday to help yourself, nice thought.

SKI Went at the end of March & snow quality very poor lower down. Tracked & soft but great higher up. All lifts were open. Ski bus efficient. 35 euros for a ski locker at hahnenkamm lift, worth it as a quite a trek acroos town to lift.

TOWN Loved it, very exclusive, high end, lots of flashy cars! Very traditional. Reasonable supermarket prices & to eat out & drinks on mountain not expensive. 3.30 euros for large beer.

Room Tip: dont be put of by eaves room. 329 is great. plenty of head room but no balcony, which doesnt matte...
