We spent a week at the Gallitzinberg. Our intention was to see the sights of Vienna as well as do some hikes in the Vienna Woods and we found this location ideal. It is located in a quiet area within walking distance of a few walks in the woods and has bus stops at the front door that connect you to the excellant transit system that Vienna enjoys. Our whole stay was very enjoyable, and with a little research ahead of time we were able to see everything that we wanted and discover many things that we had not counted on. Would reccommend for anyone that is willing to try something different.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the street side for a view, although the view from the restaurant is nice also...

We stayed at the Hotel Gallitzinberg because it was located just outside the city of Vienna and offered a closed parking lot. We were traveling through Austria by car, but did not want to take the car into Vienna.
The hotel is located on the bus route to Vienna and the trip to and from the city was relatively easy and only about 15 - 20 minutes, depending on the final destination. The bus takes you to the subway, which is an easy transfer into the Inner Ring of Vienna. The cost of the ticket includes any transfers to your final destination.
Our room was located on the top floor with a lovely view of Vienna from the window. I imagine the room could get hot in the summer, since it was filled with skylights in the ceiling. But the weather was cool when we stayed there.
I requested a non-smoking room, and even though most of the rooms are non-smoking, there was one room, right under us, that did not have the Non-smoking sign on the door, and, unfortunately, the room did smell like smoke, particularly the bathroom, which did not have a window.
Our room was actually a family suite, complete with a kitchen which included a sink, microwave, cooktop and refrigerator, a large walk in closet, sleeper sofa, table and chairs, and a port - a - crib. The only downfall to the room was that there was nowhere to walk where the floor panels did not creak loudly. I suppose that would come in handy if one had children attempting to sneak around. I felt bad for the people below us.
The room was set up so that the electricity only worked if your key was placed into a special wall box and turned on. So, no charging the cell phone or turning on the lights unless the key was turned in the box. Not a big deal, but something worth considering.
The bathroom, itself, was large and had two sinks. The shower was moderate in size, but the door to get in and out was only 12 inches wide. You need to turn sideways to fit in, and it could be cumbersome if one is partaking of too many Viennese treats on their vacation. A hairdryer was included in the bathroom.
High speed internet was available only in the breakfast room. There was a computer in the breakfast room that was intended for customers, which is a nice feature. We had no problem using the wireless in the breakfast room at night. The room was open for our use.
Breakfast was fabulous, with lots of food choices. Cold Cuts, breads, Muesli, yogurt, cheese, juice and fruit. Plus, one could order eggs if they would like that in addition to what was offered. The breakfast room has a solarium which actually has a view of the city to be enjoyed.
No elevator here. We needed to carry our luggage up a spiral staircase. We found a back entrance from the parking lot which limited our stairs to the one set. If we had come in the front door, we would have had to go up another set, down the hall, and then up the spiral staircase.
If you book online, be sure to bring an e-mail confirmation of your room reservation for verification.
