“Bring a blanket and a German dictionary !”
Reviewed 20 November 2009

I went to Vienna and stayed in Kolping Hotel for 9 nights. The weather was pretty cold, 10 degrees C, and a strong cold wind was beating my face, but the room radiators were almost cold or there was no heat at all. Even the bed sheets were cold at night. The only non-German speaking TV programme was CNN. The breakfast was rich and various. The towels were changed every 3 days, even if I payed 77E/night!!! Clean hotel, but expensive, overall !!! I wouldn't go there again! Learn German first, if you want to go to Austria! As for me, I will never ever go back to Austria again!!!

Although this hotel is clean and the cleaning staff helpful, we found that the main hotelier in the lobby, through which we had the most dealings with was rather rude and unhelpful. We tried to avoid this guy, but everytime we tried to ask questions to one of the more helpful staff we were eventually referred back to him. When checking in we found the hotelier was very dismissive, giving us disgusted looks with snappy answers everytime we asked simple basic questions about the facilities in the hotel.Eventually I asked for the hoteliers name as my two small children had asked why he was so off-hand and he replied "my name is Christian, pleased to meet you" as if to reintroduce and start again, from that moment on he realised that we were unhappy with his service and tried to become helpfull. His mood over our stay duration didnt improve until the last day following requesting his name. I would say there are better friendlier hotels in Vienna in a better location, this one is a little tucked away off the beaten track. Definitely not worth the hassle when you are travelling pregnant with children. Vienna however is a lovely city well worth visiting!

Spent 3 nights in this hotel on our first visit to Vienna. It is ideally located just a few minutes walk from the main sights in the Museum Quarter as well as the Hofburg Palace; there's also an underground station about 3 minutes walk away. Traffic noise wasn't a problem.

The rooms were clean and more than adequate given that we were there for sightseeing and didn't spend a lot of time in them - plenty of hot water for showers and washing. Reception staff were very helpful and multi-lingual. Buffet breakfast was adequate but not the biggest selection I've seen. The only drawback I could find was that there was hardly any seating in the public areas, but again, we hadn't gone to lounge around the hotel.

Plenty of places to eat within walking distance.

Kolping Wien Zentral is an ideal hotel for a budget but decent accomodation. What I liked a lot was its cleaningless, the fact that there were a lot of selves in the room, and that the bed was comfortable. Despite the fact that my room was looking at a central street it was sound proof as long as the windows were closed...
The breakfast was very nice and there was also free internet in the room...
Its location was central close to a metro station, to one of the biggest markets of Vienna and to a central shopping street.
Well, what I missed was a small fridge or a mini bar and an air condition as it was hot at mid August there!

Chose this hotel for its convenient location and reasonable price. It's close to a train station.

The room is clean and spacious, but rather dull. The bathroom is clean, however it looks a bit outdated.

The breakfast is the highlight! There is an array of choices. The Austrians love their meats and cheeses.

The staff are so so. Some are really friendly, some are just not interested.

Overall, it's a relatively good value hotel.

Hint: There is a laundry just a few hundred metres up the Gumpendorferstrasse. It will set you back about 20 euros. Doing laundry in Vienna is expensive!

Hint 2: There is a nice street market near the train station. Good value. Vienna showcases its multi-cultural side. Plenty of Middle-Easter and Asian food for sale.

As a matter of fact, we only stayed overnight, but were satisfied with what we got: super clean room with modern interior design (as for me, this is surely the only way to keep a property in perfect spick-and-span condition), fine breakfast and helpful staff (even at the e-mailing stage). The only worry we had to face was the question of where to park our car.In the end, we were lucky enough to find a spot in a neighbouring street, which proved to be safe and handy.
