Description: A Tafelspitz is a Tafelspitz and a Wiener Schnitzel a Wiener Schnitzel. It sounds simple but it is one of the great secrets of the Viennese cuisine: simple, pure, authentic food which tastes just as it should. One more secret: the Viennese cuisine - by the way, the only one named after a city - has always been multi-faceted and open to influences from other countries and regions. Recipes from the Crown Lands Bohemia and Hungary have become adopted into the Austrian cuisine, even as eggplant (Melanzani), sponge fingers (Biskotte) or bouillon, ingredients and dishes derived from the Italian and French cuisine. Adhering to original recipes while accepting new trends - that is, uniting tradition with cosmopolitanism - are the two secrets of the Viennese cuisine, to which the Pfarrwirt feels committed. It is a matter of course that all dishes are prepared with fresh and natural ingredients and that the Pfarrwirt renounces the use of meat from factory farming. Not absolutely necessary, but it nevertheless feels good.

“Perfect place to experience traditional Vienna”
Reviewed 2 November 2013

Referred by our local colleague, our party of 30+ from around the World had a grand time at dinner. Ambiance, food and service were all top notch. A cocktail in the courtyard followed by dinner inside a semi-private room and we immediately felt "at home" in Vienna.

Gruner Veltiner wine, cream of asparagus soup, grilled filet of pike perch, guinea fowl and chocolate cake with chocolate sauce were all delicious. A couple orders of Wiener Schnitzel for the table to try were also a must!

“a wird experience!”
Reviewed 29 October 2013

We have made a booking on the phone, 3 persons, non-smoking.
Arriving there (beautiful house, authentic interior) we were not welcomed by anybody at the door.
A waiter passed by and WE had to address him. "Hallo! We have a reservation!" He kind of guided us to the dinign hall. He didnt say "pelase follow me" or something so we presumed we had to follow him. OK. Arrived there, seated. We realised that we were in a smoking area and damn, people were smoking cigars next to us. ... After a long time waiting we explained to the waiter that this is not what we have resevred and he explained that they didn´t have a non-smoking area and that we have to put up with it. While we were digesting the German in which the waieter exlained (we are not very good in this language so we thought that WE haven´t understood weel) , the Manager (presumably co-owner) passed by and we hailed and he stopped and said loundly: OK! follow me (so he knew our case). He led us to the next room (which apparently was to be non-operatig that evening) and shouted: OK! Are you now happy now? You have the whole room just for you! But you will be here ALONE (said with bitterness, irony, disgust), I repeat ALONE (said loudly)! and he THREW the menus on the table. We were speachless. It is one of those moments that one is utterly shocked and can not react promptly. We were about to go away but we were curious of what the service and the food would be. So we decided to play the game and have fun. We were cateered by to waiters. One was super nice and efficient. The other one (the same that initially "welcomed" us) was a pure disaster. He even didn´t know how to place the cuttlery on the table. ....The redemption came with the food. It was just great!..While eating we have seen the Manager swaying around DRUNK in the corridor... Lustig!..It is a pity as the food and architecture are great.

“Off the beaten track”
Reviewed 27 August 2013 via mobile

This restaurant is somewhat out of the way however, easily accessible by public transportation. Loved the location, you felt as though in the country side. The food was excellent and the service was prompt. I found that for a higher-end restaurant the prices were very reasonable. I would highly recommend a visit here. They claim to have been Beethoven's favourite restaurant.

“excellent dining near Vienna vineyards”
Reviewed 24 June 2013

We had heard good things about the restaurant, so took the tram from Schottentor up to Nussdorf and then a short walk to the restaurant. It was a late lunch so the restaurant was not crowded and service was winding down. The room was very pleasant, the food excellent, the service quite good. And of course there was an excellent selection of local wine. All in all one of our better meals in Vienna.

As a side note, after lunch we walked up the hill, through the vineyards and down to the tiny village of Kahlenbergerdorf. We then caught a bus back to Nussdorf and then the tram into Vienna. A very peaceful and scenic hike.

“A different Heurigen”
Reviewed 9 June 2013

Not easy to get to - but worthwhile! We were there with 20 people during an exhibition in Vienna and they prepared an excellent menue for us: great appetizers, varieties of main courses and an excellent Viennese desert. Their own wines (Gruener Veltliner (white), Zweigelt (red)) are very good and easy to drink. This Heurigen has the regular local food to be found in these places, but also top-class cuisine. And a very special ambience.
