Hotel Admiral provides basic but spotlessly clean accommodation in a location that can’t be beat at reasonable prices in this otherwise rather expensive city.

I’ve stayed here on three visits to Vienna and have enjoyed the stay every time.*
It’s a block outside the southwestern edge of the Ringstrasse, right behind the Museumsquartier, on a quiet side street off of Mariahilferstrasse, a major shopping street. Tram and Ubahn stops are only a couple of blocks away, and there’s a Volksbank with a 24-hour ATM right across the street on Mariahilferstrasse.

If you take a left when you exit the hotel you’ll find yourself a couple of blocks from the pedestrianized cobblestone neighborhood of Spittelberg with its cafes and restaurants.

The neighborhood is also very safe.

*Stupidly, Tripadvisor requires me to provide a single answer to the question "When did you travel." Apparently it hasn't occurred to them that people might travel to a location more than once ...

If you can overlook the bed coils poking you in the back all night then you'll sleep ok with the fluffy comforter and pillows. The room was the biggest one of our European vacation with a handy refrigerator, small tv with great picture and a 'normal' bathroom. What was a little concerning/annoying and probably a fire hazard waiting to happen was that you needed your key to unlock your door from the hallway and then to lock it again from the inside of the room. There was no smell of smoke in our room but occasionally in the hallway and in the computer room. The computer was slow and I had to email my boarding pass to the hotel where the staff printed it out. A little inconvenient but at least the services were available. The breakfast was adequate with the highlight being lots of good strong coffee with availability of returning for more later, but who really wants to eat Oscar Meier wieners or pasta for breakfast? The staff were generally pretty helpful and the location was excellent (very near the Museums Quarter and U-Bahn and a short walk from the Ring). It was an older but somewhat updated hotel. It's not the Ritz Carlton but it's also not a dump and I would recommend it.

Great location! Walking distance from the circle old city etc... Clean room. Not much of the service but not less than needed.
We came for 3 nights and the price / value was good.
Simple breakfast but bearable coffee.
Bottom line -- recommended

I hate leaving bad reviews of a hotel with very nice desk personnel, but alas...
I stayed here while attending a weeklong conference. Again, the desk personnel was exquisite, the position was very good, the breakfast adequate... but unfortunately the staying was pretty disastrous anyway.
First of all, the bathroom had a horrible smell of smoking which simply wouldn't get away. The mattress was, frankly, scandalous and, unfortunately, there is a techno disco not too far away that disturbs the sleeping quite a bit.
I'd not come back.

I stayed in this hotel for two nights. Its location, just behind the Museumsquartier and off the Mariahilferstrasse with its many shops, is excellent. It is also very quiet; due to limited traffic on this small side street, noise isn't a problem even in a room facing the street. There are all kinds of public transit nearby: busses, streetcars, U-Bahn. The whole hotel has a well lived in atmosphere, somewhere between nostalgic and a bit shabby. The room, including the bathroom, was clean, and the free WiFi functioned perfectly. The bed was very comfortable and the TV had a good picture and lots of channels to surf. Unfortunately, although the lobby and breakfast room have AC, none of the rooms do. I was there during a near-record heatwave and my room was very hot. Luckily I was able to borrow a fan and with that on, I could sleep very well and stay under wilting temperature when I was in the room during the day. My room was a "double as single" but was so small that I was glad I didn't have to share it with another person, we would have bumped into each other all the time. The breakfast was totally unremarkable but as "kennorthrup" noted, it's enough to get you going in the morning. The reception desk is manned 24 hours a day. All in all, a good deal for this convenient location.

Room tip: If it is hot, you can borrow a fan (free of charge); it really helps.
