We were in Vienna last August for 7 days. Our Pilgram apartment was very nice and comfortable. Metro station near by was the key for fantastic holidays. Apartment owner was very kind suggesting several solutions about our escursion.

The positive: Close to metro station. Only 2 stations to Karlsplatz. Fast internet
The negative:
We had reserved a 2 bedroom apartment. We arrived in the evening, we had also reserved parking space but had no idea where to park. They need to provide information to where you are supposed to park. We had to start knocking doors to ask. Our apartment was on the third floor, and there was no elevator. We had to carry all our luggage up the stairs. There was construction across the street and it was very noisy in the morning. There was a leak in the bathroom floor when we arrived, the rug was soaking wet. I emailed the manager (because we could not find her) and she told me they could not fix it, but they came the second day and dried the floor. The shower curtain was moldy (How hard is it to put it in the washer????)The coffee maker and hot water pitcher were very dirty and stained outside, nasty. Their advertisement says there is a dishwasher, but there was no dishwasher. It says there are toiletries... only thing was a pump with hand soap. There was no living room, only a sofa in the bedroom. When we retrieved the key from the safe it said that we should leave our payment (cash) in the envelope. We did not feel comfortable leaving the money where other people have access to get their keys. Finally they let us pay with credit card.

After reading the other reviews of Pilgram Apartments, my husband and I can agree that it is somewhat well-located – convenient to many public transportation options and good eateries and pubs. (Although we caution that the 5th district of Vienna is relatively run-down, especially relative to adjacent districts). However, our experience with this place doesn’t garner 5 stars by any means.

When we first reserved our room (a studio with a kitchen/bathroom in one room and the living area/bed/dinette in the other room), we were given the option of depositing an envelope of cash into a safe upon arrival *or* wiring the money ahead of time. Since we reserved the room for a full month, we elected to wire the money, since a month’s payment is quite a lot and we wanted a paper trail. This proved to be a very wise choice.

When we arrived, we were told that the owners had not received our payment of 1100 Euros. However, we had electronic records from our American bank that indeed the money had been deposited into the account specified. This confusion speaks to a much more important problem at Pilgram Apartments: The owners are never around and the property manager is their teenage son. The son managed our reservation via email, yet his name is not the same as that of the owners. Thus, when the son came knocking on the door demanding an additional cash payment, we became suspicious. He was unable to provide identification of any kind, nor any verification that he should rightly have access to information about the account owners to whom we’d sent the money. We began to suspect extortion. However, we contacted a local German-speaking friend who offered to telephone the owners (who do not speak English) and try to convince them of our honest intentions, and to persuade them to re-check their account for the money we’d sent. In the end, the owner admitted a ‘book-keeping error,’ but after the fiasco and harassment by the son had ended, we found in our junk-mail account an email from the son dated the day after the transfer was made (3 weeks prior to arrival) saying that the money *had* been received. So, we’re still unsure whether the owners or son were attempting to scam us out of an additional 1100 Euros. We suspect that they were.

As far as the accommodations, the bed was not really comfortable and after a week, we both were waking up with numb necks and shoulders. The kitchen furnishing were fine – dishes, utensils and accoutrements, but nothing special. One real problem stemmed from the fact that the smell of the Viennese sewer continuously wafts from the WC/toilet. The smell permeated our entire stay at Pilgram Apartments. The apartments also offer high-speed internet, but it is not a wireless environment, so my husband and I had to take turns with the Ethernet cable. The building has a somewhat dilapidated quality to it, both inside and out.

Another problem was that while the property manager assured us when we booked the room that every 7 or 10 days our room would be cleaned, and we would be given fresh towels and linens. However, even though we stayed at Pilgram Apartments for 30 days, *no one* ever came to clean or provide fresh towels or sheets. We had to clean everything ourselves. It would seem that at the rates they charge, which are comparable to hotel stays, there would be some additional services, but this place is more like a glorified, run-down apartment building.

Anyone staying at Pilgram Apartments should try to get confirmation about the actual location of their room. Our room was on the street level, which doesn’t necessarily lend to quiet days or much privacy. Each morning, herds of children go by the room screaming, and at least once, children were banging on our windows. This area is not a particularly serene area of Vienna, either.

Our stay was very unsatisfying. We would never recommend this place to anyone, friend or enemy. It's not a good value, it's not clean, and the management is terrible.

We just spent 4 days at Pilgram apartments (TOP 6). The apartment is quiet although it is in the centre of Vienna. The location is very good: access to everything worth going to. Supermarkets and restaurants are nearby also. Reservation is easy and quick.
Thank you for making our stay in Vienna a memorable one.

We visited Vienna primarily for a 2-day wine conference, but also for some trips outside the city to vineyards (with one night away) and also for a quick look at the city as tourists. For us, the apartment proved perfect in terms of both its location (5 minutes walk to the metro, 2 stops to the Karls Platz) and in terms of value. It was also perfectly clean and as described.
The apartments were recommended by a friend, and the advanced information on the website and in email exchanges was superb - both accurate and informative. They do only take cash on arrival not credit cards so this may be seen as a downside, but the system for arrival and departure worked fine.
For us, the place was perfectly quiet, but we got up early and left each day (except Sunday), so I'm not sure about weekdays, but certainly there is no road noise and no noise at night.
The hi-speed internet which we needed was available through an adsl cord - not wi-fi - it worked well, but until they allow wi-fi no good for a hand-held.
The little kitchen was well equipped for basic cooking. Sheets and towels were decent, everything was provided that you would expect for the very reasonable price.
I'll certainly go back if I'm returning to Vienna for 3+ nights.

I have mixed feelings about the Pilgram Apartments. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, but there are several things that took away from my experience.

The Good - For about 55 Euro per night, I had a nice studio flat with a full kitchen, cable tv, internet, and a comfortable bed. The building is located close to the metro, and only 2 stops from central Vienna. Also, nearby there is a grocery store and places to eat.

The bad - Hot water was spotty. The building is right next to a school and school playground, which means that starting very there are screaming kids. Also, the curtains that cover the windows are very sheer so when the sun comes up it gets very bright and warm in your room. The walls are solid, but the doors are very thin and amplify any sounds from the hallways. However, what probably really bothered us was the fact that the building was under renovation. The people that rent out these flats should probably mention this fact on their website. Starting at 5:30 am, work crews are in the building doing some serious renovations. The jackhammer is going, crews are yelling at each other, and there is some serious demolition going on. This is very, very loud, which makes it impossible to sleep.

There are some great things about these apartments, especially for the price. However, the constant noise makes it difficult to relax when you want to unwind after a long day of touring the beautiful city of Vienna. If you haven't been to Vienna, you should, but you may want to consider staying elsewhere.
