It is a beautiful place, when it is raining, sun is shining or in winter. Thats amazing place for a family to visit, for kids it is a great opportunity to touch a lot with their hands, and for grown ups learn natural history a bit. Definitely YES if you have a free day in Vienna. You can eat there, you can rest there and enjoy the nature.

We love Vienna zoo. Because of pandas :)

We saw Fu Long, we saw Fu Hu and we saw Fu Bao. Our last visit was little "boring" - panda baby was still on "his" tree, just sleeping and sometimes he scratches or something like that. Bamboo only for parents Long Hui and Yang Yang. When he eats??? :)

Small disappointment: no affordable souvenirs. It was first time, when we didnt buy anything.

There have been many positive reviews about Tiergarten Schönbrunn in Vienna. I second all the previous positive reviews. I'd like to particularly mention about the cheetah family and the extremely cute polar bear: the mother cheetah was with her three little flurry cubs. She was chilling out with the cubs under the trees while being watched by all the human visitors. After a while, she decided to stand up and walk next to the fence. We were all fascinated by her walking back and forth in front of us for about 10 minutes. That was totally an African fantasy for us.

The second amazing, but definitely not less attractive than the cheetahs, animal for us was the polar bear. When we got to its location, he slid into the water, swimming around, and playing with the big ball. Although there was a big piece of glass between the polar bear and us, the bear was literally swimming right in front of our faces. It was just too cute while it was playing around with the ball. It was swimming and playing around for about 15 minutes in the water. I am sure no one there felt like even blinking their eyes. It was such a delightful 'show' performed by the polar bear! Unforgettable it is.

Yes, it has a perfect location. Yes, it has nicely arranged cages and zones/areas. Yes, some species are not that common in other zoos (polar bear, panda, Galapagos tortoise). Yes, some of the historical buildings are worth a visit just for the building.
Still, it is a zoo like others. The collection is small and a bit too chaotic for my taste. Also, too pricey for the time one can spend there.

We were unsure whether we would end up coming here, and after we did, we realized it was the highlight of our day in Vienna! Might have even outshone the palace! The price seemed expensive and we certainly have zoos closer to home, but the draw of the pandas and it being one of the oldest zoos in the world sucked us in, so we paid and headed on in.

The first thing I noticed is the cleanliness. Everything from the pathways to the restrooms was tidy as can be! Especially the animal enclosures. In addition to being clean and natural looking, every creature we saw appeared happy, healthy, well taken care of, and most excitingly very active! The polar bears in the new exhibit were just fantastic. One was in the water playing with a big red ball, showing off to his audience, while the other was strutting around the rocks like a model on a catwalk, back and forth and back again, giving guests opportunities for amazing photos. We heard this exhibit only opened in June of 2014 and we are so excited that we got to see it!

The elephants and monkeys were very active as well, trotting around their pen and swinging on the jungle gym, and one of the swimming penguins actually followed my camera back and forth. I've been to many zoos and have never seen such happy, alert, and interactive animals! We also saw owls, rhinos, big cats, hippos, and many more! The pandas were truly the only lazy ones. We were able to get really close to them as they napped and chomped bamboo, so it was still pretty cool.

With the zoo being so close to the beautiful palace and gardens, it is easy to work into your itinerary. For us it was definitely worth the money and we are so glad we went.
