Owner description: Austria's most prominent national symbol, this magnificent cathedral is known for its intricately tiled roof and its nearly 500-foot-tall South Tower, which provides amazing views of the entire city.

I feel strongly about churches charging admission - and this church is free! There was some kind of function going on when I visited (people clapping etc so not Mass) so I don't know if you can visit more of the interior at other times. Quite splendid architecture.

Maybe it's because as you approach you're anticipating a really quite splendid interior, but it's probably the most simple almost non-descript cathedral I've ever visited. Maybe having passed through Paris and Rome we'd been spoilt!

This is one of the most amazing churches I have ever seen. And we love to see churches. The gothic style and the size of this church was unbelievable. We attended a fabulous service here which included a Mozart mass. The sound is indescribable! Loved it...

In the center of Vienna stands this amazing Gothic cathedral built from limestone. The church was severely damaged by fire during WWII and rebuilt within 7 years. Its steeple can be seen from almost everywhere in Vienna. You can climb the 343 steps of the north tower for a birds eye view of the city. There is no entrance fee to look around the interior of the cathedral, but they do offer tours of the catacombs (which contain the tombs of Prince Eugene of Savoy, emperors, and priests) for a small fee. The catacomb tours are listed on a schedule near the left as you enter the church, but they are infrequent. They also have a small gift shop inside the cathedral also to the left. This cathedral is definitely worth seeing!
