While the room was nice, bathroom good, room clean, buffet breakfast good, location fine, our main objection was that we had no Wi Fi capability in our room and had to be in the lobby to get it
As we were booked there as part of a tour, I cannot speak to the cost of the room.

Room Tip: We liked our room, 247. Faced the back and was nice and quiet.

We booked this on booking.com for a very decent rate, but not cheap. it is just outside the Ringstrasse and within 2 blocks of underground. It is on an old cobblestone passage off a main street in the neighborhood of shops, suburban type cafes, etc.
Basically I would like to say it was wonderful because we loved Vienna. We had just come from The Aria Hotel in Prague which is so over the top superb that is not fair in a way. Nevertheless, the staff at Mercure were inconsistent. We wanted some advice on the train from Brno to Vienna ahead of time and all the concierge would do is tell us the website of one train and said last train was 18:30. In fact there are a number of trains with times until 21:30 and of course, the Aria staff found all of them and helped us translate schedules, etc.
The staff was asked to call the Kunsthistorische Museum for me when I lost my Ipad there. First they demurred and told us to do it, but when pressed, said they called and the museum was closed (this was at 17:00). We found out next day the museum had closed at 21:00 that night. The same blond woman said she called "all day" the next day and "no one would answer the phone." huh??? I finally just called using my very bad Dutch, having no German, and got someone on the line.
our room was about as far from reception as one could get, incurring a walk down 200 foot corridor until we arrived at a turn into a hallway with a service elevator and four carts of laundry (left in hall 24 horus/day.) Door to room next door was open all the time and it was the laundry room.
Room was lovely and clean and mattress was the 4-5 inch foam type, again, hard to compare with The Aria in Prague.
No wireless in our room unless you could plug in a cable (which we did not have with us). so I had to go to lobby to two computers on hightops, sitting on high stool and getting kicked off every 30 minutes because guests had a 30 minute limit. Odd.
The only restaurant recommendations they would give, unless pressed, were ones with which they had a relationship which seemed not very kosher, so we had to seek other advice for restaurants.
One young man working very late and very early (the overnight shift) at reception was very concerned about Ipad and tried his best to help. The others tried but it seemed like we were bothering them rather than (again - I'm a broken record) at the Aria the staff made us feel like we were royalty and the only people they had to accomodate every day. I did not try Mercure restaurant or cafe or bar since all the staff there just gave us slightly disdainful looks when we asked any questions at all and the breakfast and other meals were exceedingly overpriced.
There was no "spa", only a sauna room at other end of hotel, through the bar or through (seemed like ) mile long corridors on upper floors. It had no masseuse, no steam, no treatments...only the sauna with a shower and there incongruous rattan chaise lounges just sitting there opposite the three starimaster/ellipse type machines.

Room Tip: Not sure - maybe try ones overlooking garden.

Commencing 12th April my wife and I had a very pleasant four night break in Vienna staying at the Mercure.

We usually transport ourselves around on foot for City Centre Breaks and the hotel location is ok(ish) in this respect in relation to the city centre, although perhaps five minutes further than you really want to walk after a tiring day. For those who prefer using public transport, it is well served by the Metro and buses.

Entrance to the Mercure is via a 100m walk from the Main Road along a cobbled alleyway and the hotel is a long, narrow building running parallel to the alley with consequential lengthy internal passageways.

Our conclusion at the end of our few days at the Mercure was it was rather a "curates egg"------some good bits-----some less so.
The hotel was clean and well kept with a nice patio area and the uniformed staff courteous, well presented, helpful and mostly well trained. Breakfasts were good and plentiful.

Our room was a "Privilege Room" (whatever that meant) numbered 254. It is large and appears to have been expensively furnished but for us, it was the room that let the hotel down.

Sadly, it flattered to deceive with the focus on a design concept rather than a practical bedroom.

Insufficient thought seems to have been given before spending the money which has gone on the hardware rather than the software and basically it lacked comfort for a hotel of however many stars its got.

A perfect example of the hardware is the double bed which is large but hard with hard pillows that had the rebound effect on your head.

Covering the double bed were two single duvets, the source of considerable irritation as April was quite chilly In Vienna and all too often sleep was broken when a duvet had taken on a life of its own and wandered off the bed.

The theme was continued at the foot of the bed where a large, expensive looking, free-standing, useless wooden frame obstacle was situated. This is the full width of the bed------and heaven only knows what its purpose is supposed to be!

Next criticism is the sofa. Again it looked great ----- until you sat on it. Quite a brick.

The room housed an expensive looking TV but a science degree was needed to work it. Its operation seemed very "hit and miss" and by the time the right channel had been found and selected, the will to live was fast disappearing! It may have been a "thick" operator but my wife kindly put it down to a poor signal.

Our room had a separate bathroom and toilet-------why I do not know, with entrances at opposite ends of the room. Here the high spend budget had run out as the bath and hand towels were poor quality, the plastic toilet seat loose and a squeaky toilet door which was rather annoying at night time when you try not to wake your partner. I do try!

To finish the bedroom gripes-----quite why it carries the "Privilege Room" description I don`t know.
There was no view and we were advised it had a free Mini Bar which sounded promising until we discovered the contents were water, orange juice., a couple of chocolate bars and a couple of beers. We gorged ourselves on the water and chocolate.

So to conclude, a nice hotel, reasonably located, clean and well staffed but the room just didn`t do it for us. Wouldn`t like to say "don`t stay there" as overall it was ok but sorry, we wouldn`t recommend to a friend or rush to go back.

Arrived at Vienna’s Westbahnhof from Salzburg, and after a quick U-Bahn trip and a short walk, found ourselves on the charming cobblestone side street entrance to Hotel Biedermeier. Our reception was warm and efficient. Our room on the third floor overlooked the side street and therefore the occasional noise from people sitting out in the evening with a drink, or arriving with luggage bumping along the cobblestones was not unexpected, but we also chose to keep our windows open. We were only marginally disappointed with the cleaning service (empty box of facial tissue not replaced, and regular coffee replaced with decaffeinated coffee) certainly did not spoil the stay. The prime attractions within the Innere Stadt were easily accessible by foot from the hotel and its location near the Landstraße and CAT service to the airport was a big bonus considering our flight home was at 7 am. My husband and I agree that the added bonus of staying at the Biedermeier was the free two-hour walking tour that started at its sister hotel Wien Mercure Zentrum Hotel. The tour guide was friendly and very knowledgeable, and fluent in German and English, and maybe more. The tour highlighted many areas that we would have otherwise missed, and provided a great insight into life in Vienna, past and present. We were very glad we took part in the tour.

hotel biederer,we liked it!spent a few days here,on arrival,we felt it was on the wrong side of town, away from the museums etc,but soon got used to this restful hotel.the staff were very helpful and got you taxi,s etc and umbrellas when needed.bedrooms pleasantly comfy, would have prefared a bath but the shower was fine.
the hotel meanders along a long laneway, seems to occupy most (all?) of this area.breakfast fine, better then some other4 star hotels, eating " a la carte" one night, food good though we
were surprised that they did not have "white asapargus on menu, its in season inaustria.!
would we stay again?yes!though be prepared to pay up for taxis!

Room Tip: go high!most of rooms face towards the lane, there is a nice courtyard at the back to eat/drink.

I was lucky and catched the hot deal in this hotel. Location is good - near u-bahn station Landstrasse/Wien Mitte (direct trains to the airport and also direct line from Westbahnhof). Walking distance to the Hundertwasser haus and Kunsthaus Wien. Also short walk to the Stefans Dom and old city area. Lots of places to eat near the hotel. Overpriced breakfast - 17 euro per person! Room: clean, nice furniture, comfortable bed, small fridge and coffee/tea kettle. Overall, good for citytrip.

Hotel Biedermeier is located in a charming historical building, on both sides of a narrow cobblestone alley. Although not really in the center of town its proximity to the Wien Mitte station (with direct access to the CAT for a less than 20 minutes airport shuttle) make it a perfect place to explore the city and its surroundings.

Rooms are traditionally decorated (green wallpaper, paintings, retro-furniture), clean and comfortable (especially the beds, which come with great pillows!). The bathroom is basic, but has all you need. TV is mostly in German, but the international news channels are well represented. Wireless is free.

There's a great variety at the breakfast buffet, and everywhere service with a smile. Staff at the reception is very helpful, and can help you booking opera tickets.
Unless you really want to be downtown Vienna, this place (reasonably priced as it is, true value for money) is an excellent choice.
