“Fantastic location”
Reviewed 19 May 2013

An absolutely perfect location in the middle of all the attractions, Small rooms as is usual in Europe, but very clean. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful and good continental breakfast. Reasonable rates. Would definitely recommend this small 'boutique' hotel

Room Tip: Can be noisy when windows are open. Luckily there is a fan so you can keep cool with windows closed.

Location couldn't be better BUT:
- charging 4 Euros for lock for in room safe and another 4 Euros for use of the electrical adapter is a cash grab,
- not lending you a wine glass because they may need them ( we never saw 1 person have a drink there in 4 days) is silly,
- having a staff member standing idly by as we (2 seniors) struggled with baggage in a tiny elevator and taking them to the taxi as we were checking out is just plain rude.
- being in an old European city, we did not want or expect a North American size or style room, but this is very small.

With the double windows we did not have a noise problem. We were there in early May - I can't imagine how hot it would be in that tiny room in the summer.

Bottom line - not terrible but I would keep looking if I were you.

We have just spent a weekend in Vienna and stayed at this good small hotel. The location could not be better - and it is really value for money. Staff is very nice and helpful. Rooms are small and the bathroom is tiny, but everything is neat and very clean.
We will certainly be back.

We were heading to Radisson hotel from our car trip but it was difficult to find with out our GPS. Then we found Hotel Zur Wiener Staatsoper hotel in good central location. This place was very good to stay so we decided to stay there not in Radisson. We stayed for a few days and were very happy of this place, because it is quiet and typical classic hotel in very good location. Rooms are lovely in old austrian style but bathroom was quiet too small. Food wasn't very rich but it was very tasty. People from staff were like friends to us! I recommended this place for my friends and i'm sure that i will stay there once again when i will be visiting Vienna next time.

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights, but since it was an early arrival we actually came at 8 am in the morning. The room was not ready yet, but we were welcomed, checked in, left our luggage in the hotel and went out. Thus we had a full day in Vienna. In the evening when we returned the room waited for us,
The room was not very big but very nicely decorated, looking more like a home room, and well furnished: there was a round table and two chairs besides the usual set of furniture. The only thing that was really missing is the tea pot. The days were cold and in the evening after a busy sightseeing day a cup of tea was a dream... .But breakfast was a real pleasure: very beautuful cosy room, clean and decorated with love. Wonderful choice of food. Lots of fresh fruit, different types of sausages and chesees, - all one may want for breakfast, including hot meal. Coffee was superb as well as home made (still hot) bakery. Frau Zinka serving breakfast was a charming person and her smile added to the pleasure. This breakfast was a very good start of the day.
The location of the hotel can not be better--it is close to everything. We could drop in during the day the easily. Near by there is a lot of places to eat. And across the road is a small cafe - famous Zaher in it is the best! The only thing missing is Internet point which guests could use.

Room Tip: Friday and Saturday nights are very noisy outside because of the young people who are in the street...

Small, family owned and operated hotel that caters to the tourist, not business, trade. Staff is great, and very helpful at all times. Includes typical Austrian-style breakfast buffet with premises-baked breads, meats, cheeses, yogurt, muesli, fruit, soft boiled or scrambled eggs. Free Wi-Fi. Location is superb, right in middle of everything, but street is basically quiet. Charming old apartment building that's been carved up into tiny hotel rooms (ours about 150 square feet -and luggage must sit on floor) with microscopic bathrooms (think 2.5 phone booths stitched together, including shower, sink, toilet). Small, but sufficient, closet, but no other place to organize clothes outside of suitcase. Old parquet wood floors and chandelier in room exude charm. Radiator heated (but not noisy pipes), not air conditioned. I would stay there again.

The location is superb and the rooms are clean. The M-F daytime staff are extremely helpful and attentive, the weekend staff (front desk) are diligent but a little rough around the edges (but the Monday to Friday daytime staff make up for it).

The hotel unfortunately is across and a short distance down the street from an after hours underage dance bar which means that if you are on the street side of the hotel and need your windows open (eg in summer as there is no air conditioning) you will get little or no sleep. The staff provides ear plugs which is thoughtful if you are able to sleep in them.

Room Tip: if in the summer ask for a room at the back of the hotel.
