Guided tours available on the hour from 11A to 3P. Lines of interested visitors arrive 30 minutes beforehand for the opening of the door to the ticket office about 20 minutes before each tour, so get there early but be forewarned there is no shade from the elements.

Several tours set off at the same time; the tours in French, German, Japanese and German were quite small but the English speaking tour was a very big group; the people at the back couldn't hear the guide and this was worsened by her starting her commentary at each point before the group had assembled, and by the proximity of the other groups speaking in German, Japanese etc.. The bits of the tour I did hear were interesting, I wish I had heard the rest.

The crush of bodies trying to get into the tour of the Opera House is overwhelming. You are much, much better off going to the real thing and and if you must gawk at the beauty, walk around before the Opera and during intermission.

The brilliant architecture serves the Vienna State Opera well....it is situated in a cultural, cafe and shopping hub. And as such, there are so many things to do while there.....what else can you say but the opera house adds to the amazing architecture of Vienna. A feast for the eyes!

Opera is a sympo of Vienna, and mut-see point. You mas remember that during holidays - from July to the end of August opera is closed. You can buy a ticket for a music and ballet, but show is in another place, on Josifplatz.
