“Top of the list of must sees.”
Reviewed 23 August 2014

First a note on opening hours. The museum is normally closed on a Monday but for July and August they open on a Monday. I went on Monday and the place was almost deserted.

This is the type of museum that is top of my list for every city I visit and the Kunsthistorisches Museum is amongst the best.

It covers all the things I enjoy. Enough old masters to while away a couple of hours followed by a journey through ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome. And when you get peckish the cafe is located in the middle of everything.

“Must see but not on a hot day”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

Wide selection of the world famous artworks. If visiting on hot day, be prepared for no relief because the Museum has no air condition.

“An art gallerie/museum that must be seen.”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

A stunning building, across the ring road from the Hoffburg Palace.
A collection of classical renaissance and romantic period painting and sculpture that should not be missed. Allow 3 hours on two separate occasions to view the collection.
Too much to taken in one visit.

Fantastic European art collection as well as a surprisingly great section on Egyptian & Near East history! Please make sure you have the entire day for this as you will need a lot of time to cover the museum!
