I decided to surprise my sister with a trip to Vienna and what better choice than the Sacher Hotel? We were surprised not only by a nice cake and chocolates but by a room upgrade.
The room is lovely, with a big bathroom, walk-in closet; everything is spotless clean, impeccable and newly refurbished in a very relaxing muted green color. The only glitch is the view; the windows look into a light well with jutting out pipes, not the best of sights, but the room itself made up for the view.
Very kind young lady at check-in, she spoke our language, nice touch!
I especially liked the display window in the room with vintage Sacher hotel paraphrenalia, the vase filled with yellow tulips and the plug inside the safe to recharge my IPad! By the way, wi-fi access is free and it is an added bonus.
Service is excellent and even though the hotel appeared to be fully booked breakfast was perfect: food abundant and of excellent quality (all their specialties were available, a joy for the gluttons!
For aesthetics’ sake, please do change the chairs in the breakfast room; the plastic back is a little tawdry.
This is not a hotel were they call you by name (thank you for that!) everything is smoothly run, security is not a show of ear-pieced bouncers but understated and satisfactory. Considering the amount of people that crowd the cafés, guest areas are kept well separate and secure.
Kudos to all the staff who offered a fast, kind and efficient service keeping a very high standard even though some of the guests displayed a behaviour more apt to a summer camp than to a luxury hotel!
