We stayed here for 3 nights in December 2013, after traveling around Europe for about 8 months. We were so pleasantly surprised by this hotel and Vienna in general. The reviews I read before going were mixed because of some rooms being renovated and some not, but we received a top floor room that was recently renovated and it was great and it was not an executive room. Staff was incredibly helpful, taxis were easy to access, and we were in the heart of shopping, eating and tourist attractions. We left on Christmas Eve and they even gave us a little parting Christmas gift. I would even stay here if we went back. I also read complaints about not having coffee or tea in the rooms, which is true, but I found this to be true of a lot of Europe. And Vienna is famous for its variety of coffee shops, so this did not bother us given the location and how many places were nearby. My one complaint from not giving 5 stars is that there was smoking in the hotel (but we did get a non smoking room), and in the lounge/bar area. This is a city issue not necessarily the hotel, but would have been nice to hang out in the lounge area.

I was here for a week, mid-Dec 2013, on a business trip. On the whole a great trip, the hotel right smack in the middle of the fun part of Vienna, so a great great location, tons of good food optons nearby. For fellow travellers key observations listed below:
- day one reception ladies' manners not that great :(
- no tea/coffee making facilities in the room
- every day, the early morning street rubbish colleting trucks make an aweful racket - not the hotels fault, but a lower floor or open window will guarantee disturbances
- no ironing facility in-room, must use the sole ironing board and iron on the 5/F, next to room 1506
- real estate is at prime rates here, so be prepared for a smaller room that you're used to at these rates
- Wi-Fi not that great
The room was clean, but beware there is an old wing and a new wing. I was in the new wing and there was no bath, just showers.
Enjoy!

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet part of the hotel

Perfect location at the center of vienna- right on the central pedestrian road leading to stefansplatz. If the purpose of your visit is shopping and sightseeing then the location just couldn't be better. The hotel itself is nice enough but definitely needs redecorating. I stayed in an executive room which was good size and the bathroom was indeed renovated but not the room too. It is outdated and still has a carpet which is unhygienic. Also really bad pillows. From what I understood the hotel is now undergoing renovation but unfortunately my room was not one of the renovated ones. We were also disappointed with the executive lounge mainly because we didn't see it. We were told that when you upgrade to an executive room you can have coffee and snacks at the executive lounge. But this is useless from my point of view because for example when I wake up I want to have a coffee in my room before getting dressed and I would better appreciate a coffee maker in the room than heading off to a lounge. We ordered two coffees at the room which were of course charged 10 euros although breakfast is included in the price. Needless to say that we didn't have breakfast at all. Most hotels charge a room service fee for bring coffee when someone does not have breakfast but do not charge the coffee . We tried to have a coffee at this lounge at 19.00 on our second and last day and it was closed but it was supposed to close at 21.00. So we went To the lobby bar and though the bartender explained that the lounge was closed due to refurbishment which I understand can happen, he charged our coffees. Generally it is a decent hotel at a great location and if you pay A fair price for it then it is a good choice. Smokers would like the fact that there are smoking rooms and smoking at the bar is allowed. Service and staff overall very nice.

Between the Cathedral and the State Opera House, located on the main shopping street in the heart of Vienna, the Europa is a modern, pleasant hotel. The Executive rooms are our choice for a short break, as they are spacious, and entitle you to access to the Executive Lounge, where snacks and drinks are available at no extra charge. There is also a coffee-maker in the room, although we found it very difficult to operate as there were no instructions given. The bedrooms are quiet, as they have double windows which insulate from outside noise as well as temperature. Breakfasts, at 20 Euros each, are expensive, and there are plenty of cafes in the vicinity where breakfasts may be obtained.

As I’ve mentioned in a previous review, the best deals in Vienna are to be had outside of the 1st district, the touristy centre of town where all the sites are. However, if you really do want to stay in the 1st, the Hotel Europa is definitely good value. The location is unbeatable, right on the main shopping street near all the sites. Our room was getting a bit tired, with parts of the carpet fraying and visible wear and tear on the fittings, but everything worked fine so no real complaints - except for the internet which, like with the other reviewers, did not work for us. Yes, the cafes and commotion outside can get a bit noisy, but it really doesn’t last until late; everything shuts down at about 22.00.

If you’re after the ultimate Vienna experience, e.g. it is your honeymoon, I would still go for one of the traditional five stars, simply because the Hotel Europa is modern and doesn’t have the same kind of grandeur. But if you really want to stay in the 1st district at a reasonable price, this hotel is a good choice. Just don't bank on the internet service.

The breakfast buffet is very good but it is expensive – hotels in Austria have generally cottoned on that this is a good way to make money, so it is getting more and more difficult to get a rate with breakfast included. If you are fine with ham, a croissant, and coffee, you can forget breakfast in the hotel and eat at one of the surrounding cafes.

One more tip, since I used to lived in Vienna (and since I see some other reviewers had this issue) – you really don't need to rent a car as a tourist in Vienna, but I had business reasons I needed to do so this time around, giving rise to the obvious parking issues. The hotel has valet parking which is a shocking EUR 30 or so, but there is no need for this – street parking is free after 22.00 and on the weekends, so as long as you come back late on the weekdays you can find parking (going around the block a couple of times should do it).

Stayed here for one night while in Vienna on business. This hotel is in an excellent location, just behind the Kartner Str. and within a few minutes of all the central Vienna amenities and sites. Easy reach from the airport and Wien Mitte. The breakfast was excellent, although a bit pricey (we were told at check-in it was included in the price only to be surprised by the charge). Rooms were decent, simple and clean, nothing amazing but good enough (although the comfort rooms could use a bit of a make-over).
