Conveniently located in order to walk to both the area around St Stephen's and the Hofburg complex. We stayed in the classic building, and it was a short walk up a set of steps from the main building (the taxi driver dropped us at the wrong place), we were warmly welcomed and an offer to carry our luggage was made to building that our room was in.

The room itself was a little tired, but the staff were fantastic and the breakfast was a great surprise (proper bacon and scrambled eggs which is unheard of in a lot of European hotels). We used the bar in the main building one evening, and the variety of Austrian wines was impressive.

This is a party area of Vienna so expect street noise late on Saturday's, however we felt completely safe no matter what time we returned to the room.

Stone-throw away from many major attractions including the stephanplatz, vienna opera and the museum quarter. St Rupert's church is just behind the hotel. Travel is easy with both Schwedenplatz Metro and tram stations 2 minutes away. The river cruise as well as the bus station is also next door. Thus even if you are a walking addict or a public transportation seeker, this location is perhaps the best to enjoy Vienna.

The room (standard room) was very well planned and was functional and comfortable. The staff is helpful as well. The bathroom was spacious. The TV does not have any english channels which is very unusual for an Accor property. One needs to pay EUR 21 a day for watching English channels. Breakfast is pricey especially seeing the prices next door.

It is close to great restaurants including the newly opened Hard Rock Cafe which is just downstairs. One can have breakfast next door at castalletto cafe and the most amazing ice cream at Eis-Greissler! There is a "billa" supermarket nearby where one can go shopping for daily items.

Room Tip: Higher floors are quieter as the hotel is just opposite a nightclub so travellers with kids should a...

The city of Vienna is divided into 23 districts, with the city center (called Innere Stadt) being district number one. The Innere Stadt is where most of the historic sites are located and is the tourist heartland of Vienna. There is a ring-road going around the Innere Stadt, called the Ringstrasse.

It makes a lot of sense therefore to book a hotel in the Innere Stadt or along the Ringstrasse. This means that you can access almost all prominent tourist attractions including Hofburg Palace, Stephansdom, Staatoper and Museums Quartier on foot - and I do believe the best way to explore is on foot! Only Schonnbrunn palace is a little while (a short train ride) away.

It is in this regard (location) that the Mercure Wien Zentrum doesnt disappoint. We couldnt have hoped for a better location. It's 2-3 minutes walking from Schwedenplatz and 5-6 minutes walking from Stephenplatz - two major underground stations on different lines. This means you have direct no-hop access to everything from Wien WBF (via Stephenplatz) to Schonnbrunn Palace (via Schwedenplatz). Schwedenplatz is also where you can find the Tourist Tram going around the Ringstrasse.

If you're a nightlife buff, this is where it all is. Step out of the hotel and you're in the premiere shopping and nightlife district of Vienna. Both sides of the street are lined with swanky boutiques to quaint pubs to open-air dining restaurants filled with holidaymakers.

The hotel itself has two buildings - one housing the premium rooms and one housing the standard rooms. It must be clearly understood that this is a budget hotel. This is for the price conscious traveler and focuses on convenience and comfort over lavish luxury. I had stayed in the 'standard-room' building so my review should be contextualized accordingly. The room is quite decent and houses a desk, a nice comfortable bed and an LCD TV. All in all, I couldn't find anything to complain about.

Room Tip: Like all buildings in Vienna, this hotel also has a sloped roof. That means if you're on the top...

There are hundreds of hotels in Vienna, and quite a few Mercures, but I think this one has an almost perfect position. About 2 mins walk from the Morzinplatz airport bus stop (a huge saving on a taxi), equally close to the Stephanplatz tram, underground and river boat stations, and within walking distance of most of the museums and palaces in the central district, it is ideal for a sightseeing or city break trip.
Good rather than great inside, its corridors and rooms reflect the age of the building.
If you have a room only rate, there are many many pavement cafes where a croissant and coffee cost a fraction of the hotel breakfast

Just returned from a week trip to Vienna. We have stayed here at the Mercure Wien Zentrum before. This Hotel is perfectly situated for a walking tour of the first district, the great upscale shopping and visiting the many historical sites. The Vienna public like Americans, most speak English and are always very helpful. The Hotel is clean, well appointed, fine food and bar. The staff -- Front Desk (day and night) Staff are great, the maid service is perfect, the waiters and bartenders are there to please.

I'm sure we will visit Vienna again and I promise we will stay there. Great place.
.

Room Tip: Pay a bit more for the Privileged room -- free mini bar included.
