I stayed here for 2 nights recently. I have stayed in the Mercure Zentrum before, which was great. The Mercure City is very slightly out of town (just over the river) and was quite a lot cheaper, so I thought I would give it a go.

I arrived late to a friendly reception. I had a top floor room, which was not particularly big, but the clever design made very good use of space. It was clean and quite modern. The bathroom was also small but clean and OK.

The main issue was the WiFi, which was rather unreliable, and the signal kept dropping. At some times if you moved to one part of the room it was fine, at other times not. I feel that these days reliable WiFi is essential, and I recently knocked two stars off another hotel I reviewed on here for not only having poor WiFi (worse than here), but also not caring and effectively blaming the customers for this.

Happily this is not the attitude of the Mercure. When I complained, I was told that the hotel was aware of the problem and changing suppliers very soon. That is good news and so I will only knock one star off!

Apart from that, the breakfast was more than adequate and the general service all good.

In summary therefore I would stay here again, once they fix the WiFi..

Dear Sir or Madam,

thank you very much for taking the time to leave your comment here on Tripadvisor. It is very nice of you to be patient with us and our terribel wifi problem. In June we are definitely getting a better system that already works perfect in other Accor hotels in Vienna. It would be a pleasure for us to be able to welcome you again soon.

Best regards from Vienna,

It's a decent Hotel and met our expectation. Situated at walkable distance from tram and bus stop. We stayed here during Christmas time so almost all the nearby restaurants were closed but luckily found one Indian Restaurant (Namaste India) just at walking distance from here which was opened on both 25th and 26th December.
Our room had all standard facilities and hotel staff was friendly. Room service was also satisfactory.
Overall our experience was good and will recommend it to anyone who is looking for a decent stay in Vienna.

Dearest guest,

we thank you for the effort and time it took to leave a comment about your stay in our hotel here on Tripadvisor. It is a pleasure to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. Many thanks for the good review and all the best to you.

The distance to the inner city is really short, about 10 walking minutes to St. Stephen Square and 5 minutes to the subway stop "Schwedenplatz".

We hope to see you soon again.

I spent the last weekend at the hotel with a Group of 45 Swedish long distance runners. We had a lovely stay and enjoyed the friendly service. The Breakfast was perfect before the Half Marathon run! I would certainly use the hotel again, both for groups and individuals.

Stayed for 4 nights on business. Hotel is located close to Schwedenplatz, where the bus from the airport stops. 10 minutes walk to the city centre. Room was clean and spacious. Used wired internet in the room which was fast. Ordered room service on the first night which arrived promptly and was tasty. Breakfast was adequate. Staff were professional and helpful and spoke good english. Lacks a gym. Would be happy to stay again.

At check in we were offered an upgrade of either 10 euro per night or 30 euro per night for a privilege room. We chose the privilege as that was with a pod coffee machine and free mini bar with bathrobes (although with no sauna/spa avail). We got to the room, checked out the mini bar... and checked into a deluxe because it was a rip off. The mini bar consisted of a sweet and salty snack, a beer, and water. 30 euro a night??? I thought there would be sekt, wine, etc and we were told it would be replenished daily. The room is EXACTLY the same as the deluxe!!! Even if we drank/ate everything in the mini bar, I do not think it would equal 30 euro a night. Stay with deluxe.

Pros: Location is great. Cross the bridge and you are within the inner pedestrian area of the city. The room was clean and bath products were good.

Cons: I asked to stay in a room with AC as it is an unusually warm March here.. We were told EVERY room had AC. Our AC didn't work in our deluxe room. We were placed in a room bend the Mercure sign when we decide to downgrade from Privilege to Deluxe and it is very loud on street side. With no AC, the room is very hot! We requested to have AC checked and they said if it couldn't be fixed, they would change rooms. We finally called about 6 hours later, our room was never cleaned and AC was not fixed. Housekeeping came quickly upon request but we were told AC would not work in the whole building because of the outside temp (which I think is ridiculous). We had to either sleep in a hot room or loud room because of street noise.
Parking in garage is 19 euro per day. Parking on the street on Saturday/Sunday is free. We had to call down to make our room for double use. Needed more pillows/towels/blankets. Seems like a giant issue with communication.

Breakfast looks like a normal German spread. Not worth the 17 euro they charge.
Garage parking is 19 euro per day. Sat and Sun is free parking on the street. Overall, I would choose to spend a bit more and stay at another hotel.

Sehr geehrte Frau Melissa,
