“Great location”
Reviewed 28 June 2014

The hotel is located in a great place- close to town center. The site-seeing buses run in front of the hotel as well. The rooms were clean, the internet had a strong signal and the staff was friendly! The parking garage is a pain...the button to exit the parking garage is at the bottom of the STEEP exit ramp.

As far as I was concerned the whole concept and biggest benefit of Accor Hotels was that they were all the same, so if you booked a Sofitel, Mercure,Novotel or Ibis it would be the same as all the others of that brand you have stayed in.

If we had booked this hotel as an Ibis I would have been perfectly happy as it met all the Ibis criteria. Having recently stayed in the Mercure in Moscow however my expectation was of something VERY much better than this and in that I was very disappointed.

On a more positive front the location is excellent in a relatively quiet street next to the Danube Canal, a 10 minute walk from the City Centre and a five minute walk to the Metro station. The staff on reception and at breakfast were very nice and tried to help you if they could.

In all other respects the hotel is adequate, adequate rooms, adequate breakfast, adequate reception area bar and restaurant. If they were to rebrand the hotel as an Ibis that would make a lot more sense.

Dear John,

thank you for the time you spent to leave a comment here on Tripadvisor. Every Mercure is different, this is one of the key features of our brand. We have invested in the renovation of many parts of the hotel and are still working on it. Most of the rooms have been renovated this year and the lobby will next on the list. I can only recommend to book a Superior or Privilege room as you get a much nicer room for just a couple of euros more.

We hope you will stay with us again and we will be able to convince you of our unique style as part of the Mercure brand.

Yours faithfully,

I stayed here for a weekend. Great location, lovely hotel, helpful staff, clean and very comfortable rooms. About 15-20 min. walk distance to central station, did not have to book for breakfast as the area is full of local restaurants and coffee shops.

Very good value.

Our room was over the restaurant. Very noisy. Rooms were very clean. Small - but not unexpected in European hotels. Convenient location. Loved eating at restaurant just not sleeping over it. Staff friendly. Overall good value.

Dear Lucy,

thank you for reporting your stay here at Tripadvisor. We apologize for the fact that you did not feel comfortable in a room above the restaurant. As we do not have a restaurant in the hotel I assume it was the noise during breakfast times that disturbed you in the morning. We are more than happy to change the room for you if you give us the chance to help you during your next stay.

Booked this hotel as a special. Booked a single room and was given a large room with a Kingsized bed. Very comfortable. About a 10 minute walk to city center but an easy walk. Breakfast expensive but plenty of cafés nearby serve breakfast. In room tea and coffee a bonus. Airconditioning in room but not very effective on a hot day. No wifi in rooms was a negative but if you have a laptop there is in room service at a cost. Wifi available in the lobby for free. Bathroom good with a bathtub and shower. Staff friendly and accommodating. Would recommend this hotel.

We stayed for two nights. Location is good - close to airport bus and schwenplatz underground station. Lots of restaurants across the bridge. However the room we stayed in (room 716) had no wifi coverage. It seems like you need to stay closer to the elevator to have wifi. I didn't have my laptop with me to use the wired connection. Reception staff was apologetic but was unable to help. Otherwise the room we stayed in was adequately spacious with the usual amenities.

Dear guest,

thank you for taking time to tell us about your stay in our hotel Mercure Wien City. I have good news about the wifi problem. As we know how important a stable wifi connection is nowadays we will get a new provider in June which will allow our guests to use Wifi in every room!

We hope you will stay with us again to be able to benefit from this new service.
