“Surprisingly beautiful hotel in Vienna”
Reviewed 4 January 2012

I was surprised by the fascinating experience that is to be a guest at Pentahotel Vienna. I have read excelent reviews about this hotel, and I couldn't believe that a hotel could be that good with the daily rate they charge. By the way, low if you think about all qualities that Pentahotel offers:

* Beautiful, modern decoration: If you have already stayed in trendy hotels like W or the Hilton Boutiques and loved the decoration, you will be at home in the Pentahotel Vienna. The main lobby is also a cozy, modern bar.

* Very polite staff

* Excelent restaurant, with a wonderful menu

* Very well located, in a calm street, but very near the historical downtown and the main streets of Vienna

I just spent 6 nights at this hotel and whilst i was not dissapointed, i was not particularly impressed either.

The good
Open plan lobby that doubles as a bar. Bit confusing on arrival but efficiently handled.
Modern, designer led decor
Beds are super comfy.

The bad
No wardrobe or drawers which is inconvenient for anyone staying more than a couple of nights.
No bathrobes. Strangely enough there are two in the sauna room (what is one supposed to do?).
No Do not Disturb sign, which
meant disturbed by (the efficient) room attendant every morning.
No safe boxes

Overall i felt that in an effort to do without what they consider superfluous, a few convenient items may have been missed.

I don't get other's comments about location. No, it is not bang on in the centre but it is a 10 - 15 min walk to the centre and a 3 minute walk to the underground (1 stop to centre). Definitely location was not a problem for us.

I think that this hotel is best suited for a short break (1-2 nights) and most likely to appeal to a 20-30 year old than to a seasoned traveller.

I stayed in the Pentahotel in Nov 2011 for a birthday treat, the hotel hasn't been open very long and there weren't many reviews but the prices were good so I thought I would go for it! And it was the right choice, the hotel is modern and very trendy, great for young couples!
The staff were extremely lovely and helpful. It is a little way from the centre of Vienna but the station is a short walk down the street and its only a few stops to Karlsplatz and the centre of Vienna. The food in the hotel was gorgeous and reasonably priced so we had a few meals here, just along the road there is also a lovely italian restraunt that is slightly cheaper if you are on a budget, only found it on the last night though which was a shame but highly recommended!
All round great hotel!

The hotel was chosen on the basis of Tripadvisor recommendations. We had checked maps and distants well in advance so we were not disappointed on the location of the hotel. The hotel was modern and definitely not boring with regards to the decor. The reception was quite alright and a portion of the bar area was dedicated to this purpose. The staff were helpful.

The rooms were not as ordered but the inclusion of a free breakfast compensated for this error. There was a 20 minute walk up to the city centre and most of the sights. It cost around €7 for a taxi. Good room and very comfortable bed. Quiet!

The breakfast can only be described as fantastic - good selection of freshly baked breads & cakes. Hot and cold selections of meals.

I can only say that anyone who rated the hotel very low hasn't done their homework!

We stayed here for a couple of nights in December and it was fine considering we didn't pay very much but it was not as good as we were expecting.

The good points first: Good location overall, decent bathroom (although small), comfy beds, clean.

The bad points:

The reception area doubles as the bar so on arrival it was not clear who we needed to speak to in order to check in. The bar itself is nice for a drink in the evening but don't bother with the food. We ate in the 'restaurant' one evening and it was awful. The service was slow despite it being a quiet evening and the food when it came was greasy (even the salad). This area of the hotel seems to have been an after thought because it is an area just off the reception area by the lifts. Breakfast is held in this area in the mornings but we didn't bother because the offering most definitely was not worth the 17 Euros per person the hotel charges. There are some lovely cafes and bakeries in Vienna so we went there instead.

The rooms are pleasant but it is like sleeping in an IKEA show room. Everything is very cheap! Turn down the first evening looked like someone had slept on the bed rather than made it. A hotel like this doesn't need a turn down - its something you would expect from a more up market or different style of hotel.

Overall, a very average hotel.

I booked this hotel based on the reviews and pictures. Once we arrived, I had a funny feeling about the place. You walk into a bar area. There is no front desk and no one directing you. We asked the bartender where we should go to check in and she said she would do it. There is only 1 person working as front desk, concierge and bartender. We got to our room and noticed that we got 2 separate beds when we booked a king. I called the front desk and she said she didn't have any room with king beds but was with another customer and would call me back. After 15 mins she said she can get another room with King bed but needed some time to clean the room. We moved all our stuff to the new room which was much nicer and larger but was cold. Since we wanted to get out to see the city, we turned the heat way up and left for 3-4 hours. I figured it would be warm when we got back. It was literally 0 degrees farenheit outside! Freezing! When we got back to the room, it was still cold. I called the front desk again and they sent someone up to check out the heating control. It was broken. No heat. They didn't have any other rooms available as the hotel was sold out. They also didn't have any space heaters to offer us so we had to sleep in the freezing room. I booked 2nts ahead of time to get a special rate but didn't want to stay any longer than 1 night. The front desk manager didn't offer any options so I asked to be refunded the 2nd night and we would leave. She needed to get approval for that which I thought was ridiculous! She should have offered us a discount on the night we stayed and taken the 2nd night off automatically. We paid full price for a room without any heat in the winter. Horrible service and horrible hotel in the middle of nowhere.

The pentahotel in Vienna is different from other hotels in a very refreshing way - it's young, stylish, fun! The rooms are nice and clean, the bar is very attractive and it's fun to spend the nights there. The breakfast is great, very tasty and it does not get boring even after 10 days. The hotel is located not far away from the inner city and close to a subway station. The staff is very friendly.
The food at the restaurant is also very delicious - a very nice place to stay at!
