“Looking good, but the service...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 February 2013

I was in the hotel for two days, this February. Hotel is small, clean and in the center of the city, great location if you came to explore Vienna. They serve breakfast and it was good and tasty. But, the staff is not very professional or kind. For the two days I was there, they came into our room after a quick knock, not waiting for an answer. They did that 3 times the first day and two times the second day, even though they had cleaned the room before that, changed the towels etc. When I came back in the room after a walk on the town, the window in the room was open, and the heating was off (it was 0 C outside), but when I called the Reception on the phone to ask about the heating, no one answered. I came down to the Reception, and the staff was there! When I told them about the heating, they sad: ok, like it was quite normal to have no heating in the winter. Heating started after I came back upstairs (did they turn it off when they saw the room was empty?). At the breakfast there were no clean plates, glasses and cups, we had to ask for it. And, they never said: sorry for the inconvenience, or anything remotely polite. That ruined the impression about the hotel.

We paid about 50 euros per night per person on a rather short notice. Considering what else was available within this price range and on a central location (walking distance to center) this seemed like the best option.

The outside of the hotel and the general corridor areas are not very attractive, but once you get into the reception and to your room you will notice that while the place is a bit tacky with their red satin and maybe a bit old fashioned too but all in all fairly comfortable and clean. Also the bath rooms seemed to have been renewed recently so no complaints there either.

It was just fine for it's purpose: Quick base camp for shower and sleep.

I had reservations about booking this hotel, based on some of the reviews on TripAdvisor, but decided to take the plunge go with it, and I am glad to say that Arenberg exceeded my expectations.

We arrived around 10:30 in the morning, and there were a couple of people at the reception ahead of us, and we sat and waited for a little while in the lobby. Since it was before check-in time, our room was not fully ready, but they let is drop off our suitcases in our room and gave the room keys.

We had a junior suite on the third floor, and the suite and bathroom appeared to be freshly renovated. It was spacious, and our suite also had an additional bathroom with our suite number on it in the i mediate hallway outside. The room key was needed to access that hallway. The junior suite was decorated in typical Viennese style, harking back to the late nineteenth century. The hotel was exceptionally clean, and they provided elaborate turndown service, which also included linen towels on the floor to step on while getting out of bed.

We loved the location of the hotel, as it is on Steubenring, which is part of Rinsgstrasse, and tram number 2 stopped right outside the hotel. There are two metro stations nearby. The Stubentor station, which is three minutes down the street, as you exit right out of the hotel, was particularly handy for us. There is another metro stop at Schwedenplatz, which is to the left as you exit the hotel.

Arenberg's breakfast was spectacular. It had many choices and some very imaginative offerings. They also had bowls of apples on both floors throughout the day. One evening they provided me with tea to take to the room, which was nice.

The door to enter the building is very heavy. It is mildly inconvenient that one needs room keys to enter the second and third floors, but that is a minor issue, as the location is superb and makes up for it. I was glad we chose Arenberg.

We had just caught an overnight train from Venice into Vienna and were tired and really felt like we could do with a clean. To our surprise when we lopped into the hotel foyer at 8am the hotel found us a vancant room so we could drop our bags and freshen up, this was so nice of them and totally unexpected as normally you can't check in until 2pm and we were expecting just to drop our bags off. Throughout our entire stay everyone that was on the reception was friendly and helpful.

The room we stayed in was very large and looked like it had been recently rennovated. It was clean and we could not fault the room for the money we had paid. It had one of the BEST showers that I have ever used and plenty of room to store our bags.

This hotel is inside of the main ring road that encircles Vienna, and anything inside this road is usually expensive. While this hotel is just inside this cirlce, it is still within walking distance of the entire main city. It will take about 10 minutes to get to the main shopping mall which runs down the middle. It's about a 5 minute walk to two different underground lines which make it very easy to get around Austria.

We felt that this was a very good hotel for the money and would recommend it to anyone.

Stayed here for 1 night in nov 2012. Great hotel with wi fi . Booked a junior suite with breakfast included. Arrived 4 hours early but our room was ready which was great. Huge suite overlooking the street but double glazed so no noise problems. Hot breakfast with good coffee set us up for the day. Choice of boiled or fried eggs, bacon, sausages etc. Plenty of choice catering for all tastes. Try and get a deal with breakfast included. Staff helpful. Hotel is on the ring which runs around the city. Tram number 2 stops right outside the hotel and runs around the ring so is perfect to get to all the sights. Loved the location. Hop on hop off bus tours start near the opera which the tram also goes to.
Wouldn't return to Vienna as so many other cities to explore but if I did would stay here with no hesitation!

We arrived with 2 rooms booked between three of us and the single room was upgraded to a double. My friend and I went to our suite, opened the door and walked in to find clothes and suitcases in the room. It turns out they had a booking problem and I find this extraordinary as I now see that this has happened before in this hotel (reference review from 19 April 2012). We were shifted to a small room and luckily I was with my best friend of many years as we had to sleep in a double bed together. As there really wasn't much space, we had to shift some furniture around, and it was good that the chairs in the room were able to fit in the closet. We then found that the room our friend moved into was bigger with a really large bathroom and pleasant decor, but the room still didn't seem big enough for 2 with large cases. Wifi was slow and generally unreliable.

The staff were generally helpful and pleasant with the exception of one of the ladies at reception who doesn't seem to know what customer is, nor how to exchange pleasantries. She should learn off the guy that was cleaning the rooms as he was always nice.

The best thing about the hotel was that the location was brilliant and we got by on foot and u-bahn quite easily. We did not have breakfast at the hotel, as I always prefer to try some of the local venues, so we found "Daniel Moser", a little bar/cafe just off Schwedenplatz that was quite pleasant with good staff.

Pleasant enough, but really not a 4 star hotel.

This is about a 10-15 min walk from the main rail station, about 3 min from the Schwedenplatz underground (U) station and very central. The hotel entrance is on the Stubenring side of the hotel and is upstairs (2nd or 3rd floor). The room was comfortable, although the bathroom was fairly modest in size. The breakfast was fabulous with a really wide range of foods on offer.
