“Great loaction, shame about the rooms”
Reviewed 17 June 2010

You cannot beat the location, right opposite the Cathedral. Great service, both at reception and the restaurant/breakfast. The flaws? Rooms very spartan (the bathroom reminded me of a Hospital bathroom!), bear-bone minimalistic furnishings, certainly NOT luxury. Another flaw were the extremely thin curtains, which meant that at 5 am I was awoken by bright light streaming in. Needless to say, I didn't manage to get to asleep again!
Breakfast was the usual buffet, with very little in terms of differentiating factors, except for the splendid views of the Cathedral.
Overall, a clean hotel which is very well located. However I WON'T be going back - far too spartan for my liking!

The location of this hotel is absolutely superb. We stayed in 3 other hotels in 3 different European cities and this hotel was by far the best for location and value. As soon as you exit the underground is there. It is a very modern hotel that is eco and energy friendly/conscious. Rooms were immaculate and very quiet.

We went to Vienna by train and thus were verey dependent of public transport. Luckly the location of our hotel was just perfect. As soon as you exit the underground the first thing you will see is not the Dom, no it is the sign of Hotel am Stephansplatz!

Because our travel agency fumbled with our reservation we had no rooms to start with but after a call this was all taken care of and the hotel provided us with an upgraded room. During this rather nasty start of our vacation the hotel personell was very kind and very helpfull. I have to say that during our whole stay they did everything that you asked of them. One could not wish better service.

The same goes for the room, when we opened up our doorway we could not believe how clean it was and how much space there. It should be noted that we did have some small black stains in our linnen but nothing to worry about.

Alas the hotel has one lesser part and that is the restaurant. It starts with the breakfast, while the quality of the food is once again great one needs to press his own oranges to make fresh orange juice. While this might seem like fun to do once or twice, it actually becomes annoying to do this every morning (i know i am hair splitting). This ofcourse would not make the diner bad, but the food that the served during the evening was just bad. Also the restaurant already closes down at 10 pm. So if one wants to enjoy a late evening snack or drink you would have to find it elsewhere (which is no problem ofcourse in the city center).

All in all we had a great time there and if we would ever go back to Vieanna we would certainly go to this hotel again.

The hotel is completely renewed hotel right in front of one of Vienna's most important landmarks the Dom. The hotel has been completely refurbished in a 'design' sort of way.
The rooms are very spacious and spot clean. I can't say they are very cosy but it all comes down to taste.
The staff at reception is extremely friendly and helpful.
Breakfast is served with an absolutely gorgeous view on the dom and square in front. All food is fresh and there is a nice and varied choice.
The hotel is in the vicinity of all of Vienna's landmarks and for its location an absolute hit in respect of price-quality
Highly recommended

As noted by earlier reviews, the location of the hotel is outstanding. Next to the Cathedral with the metro station just outside the hotel entrance makes this one not only the most centrally located hotel in Vienna but also one of the most convenient. Though the surrounding are is a pedestrian zone, we had no problem in reaching the hotel by taxi from the airport and got dropped at the hotel entrance.
There are number of restaurants nearby, ranging from budget to luxury, fast food chains to well known gourmet establishments. A taxi rank is just steps away and also buses are available. We found the area to be completely safe even when coming back from the opera late in the night. There is a Billa supermarket on Singerstrasse near to the Macdonald outlet diagonally opposite to the hotel.
A number of major sights are within an easy walking distance from the hotel including Hofburg, State Opera, Art and Natural History Museum etc.
But for us the big plus about the hotel was its staff attitude. All of them were friendly, attentive and cooperative. They answered all our questions with a smile and helped us in tour reconfirmation and did rail seat reservation on our behalf. Starting from reception to the breakfast room we received wonderful service. I apologise for not remembering their names but all of them were fantastic.
We stayed in a 7th floor room which had a very nice open terrace overlooking Stephansdom. The room size was fairly big by European standard and had nice modern furniture with ample space for luggage and clothes including a safe. Even after placing an extra bed for our son we had room to move around. The bathroom was large and like rest of the hotel, spotlessly clean. Our room had a separate toilet which was helpful particularly while getting ready in the morning. Although our room faced the Cathedral Square with its large amount of people, we did not have any problem with noise. The breakfast was really good with lot of options. My wife particularly loved their tea.
Even though this hotel is on the expensive side we still believe considering the location, amenities and service it is not overpriced and we will definitely go back there if we are in Vienna again in the future.

We were looking for a very central hotel in Vienna and I don’t think anything can compare to this place. It was fabulous – right next to the U Bahn and directly in the heart of the city. Inside we were warmly greeted by staff and had a concierge take us to our room. The rooms were very comfortable and spacious with an extra large bathroom which included a large shower and separate bath as well. The bed was so very comfortable and had those fantastic European pillows and single duvets (a personal favourite of mine). The breakfast was extremely well laid out and had a wonderful array of continental choices and very pleasant staff giving you a million choices of how you wanted your egg done in the morning. The hotel also had a great sauna which was lovely to come back to after spending a day out in the cold.

We were in Vienna just before Christmas and if you ever wanted to go somewhere and experience Christmas at its absolute most finest and most decadent then Vienna is the place. The streets and laneways surrounding the hotel were full of the most fabulous shops and cafes all open late and also lots of street stalls selling roasted chestnuts and mulled wine. The highlight had to be the magnificent decorations round Graben (main street). It would put other cities to shame. And ten to amble home through all of this, made the Stephansplatz such a wonderful place to stay.

We stayed here when there was a mix-up with a different pre-booked hotel. We couldn't have been happier. The staff are wonderful and the hotel was lovely. The view of Stephansplatz from breakfast was a wonderful way to start our visit. The eco based modern style might seem like a gimmick but was extraordinarily well executed. The attention to detail was clear.
