We returned to Papageno as it was a really nice hotel in a good area, we even recommended it to others. Our room last time was light and airy and one of the biggest rooms we have had in Europe. This time they up graded us and the room was every bit as nice(still very light and airy and large) but the bathroom was -WOW !!. all glass and chrome complete with it's own rubber duck. This was luxury as we are very much budget travellers.

I loved the shower gel which I also used as shampoo and it made my hair look glossy and feel lovely. The shower gel and hand wash were in large squeezy bottles not the little ones that you can tuck into your luggage but they were definitely luxury.

There was still coffee and cake available at reception and at breakfast there is a great choice.I loved the grilled peppers and also the blue cheese( for breakfast -yes!)

Only disappointment was no fridge in room.

Papegano tries to be a little bit quirky but it doesn't need to be as it is a really, really good hotel.

I have stayed at the Hotel Papageno now for over ten years, almost every year. I travel a lot but the Papageno is to me like coming home. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are well sized and tastefully furnished in classical Viennese style. Some rooms have a little fridge. The bathrooms and the whole hotel is squirky clean. The breakfast buffet offers a good variety of cold meats, cheeses, cereals, cakes, fruits, relishes, etc. really catering for any taste. In the afternoon there is free coffee and a yummy Viennese cake. The best bit of all is its location. The hotel Papageno is nearby in walking distance of two U-Bahn (subway) stations, one of them - the Karlsplatz is a main node serving several lines, making a trip to anywhere in Vienna a breeze, to its musei, its palaces, and the link to the airport CAT. It is just a few blocks walking to the Kaerntnerstrasse and St. Stefan's cathedral, the very centre of Vienna. The hotel does not have its own restaurant, but there is one next door and several within 3 minutes walking distance. Two supermarkets are a block or two away. Do not expect pomp or luxury at this cosy hotel, but it is truly good value for money.

We had two rooms on the top floor. One had a balcony (albeit rather tiny!) which was fantastic. The other was only a window. Luckily, the people in that room had a fan, because it was just so hot. Also good was the fact that they were able to provide a travel cot at a moment's notice because the firm we booked through had forgotten to ask, even though it was mentioned on our original paperwork.

Breakfast was great. Real value for money and definitely worth it. Location was also great- we walked/ pram pushed to the centre in a very short time every day, which was perfect. Overall, this hotel was excellent value for money- it was cheap but central with breakfast and afternoon coffee and cakes included.

The location of this hotel is a really good one - 5 min away from city center on a bus, or 10-15 min walk. Staff is very helpful and the breakfast is amazing for a 3 star hotel. The only minus is the bath tub - its a bit uncomfortable and there is no air condition (however you rarely need it in Vienna). Overall its a good place, and I would go back.

I had chosen Papageno mainly for its good location near the University of Vienna (TU) where my conference was held. Photos on the website showed a positive picture of the hotel. However my room was very small with a single bed. The quality of the materials was meagre and the position of the television was inadequate to watch. Sanitary fittings were okay but nothing special and the room did not have airconditioning. This was not advertised byt he way, but in July you need one in Vienna. Breakfast was good.

So, location excellent, and there are better rooms than mine available probably.

Good location close to all transportation. The room is clean. Breakfast is excellent. They provide adapters for international power plugs. You can even rent a bike directly from the hotel. I paid €7 for half day bike rental plus bottle water and bike map - great value ! When I got home I found a small payment difference and emailed the hotel, the money was credited to my card in the 2nd day- excellent staff service.
