“Thrid visit; still love it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 February 2014

I stayed here again in Feb 2014 (my third visit in the past several years) and still love this hotel. What do I like about it?

--I love the fact it is both a quiet hotel (great for sleeping) and right in the middle of the Old City. St. Stephen's Cathedral is about a block away. The Staats Oper (opera house) is a short walk down the pedestrian-only main street that is on the doorstep of this hotel. I always see an opera when I am in town and stroll back to the Kaiserin Elisabeth. Ubahn stop is very short walk from the hotel if you are venturing further.

--I love the traditional charm. Walking back into the hotel in the evening to see the fire in the lounge is always heart-warming. The staff is very professional and helpful. Rooms are very tasteful and (of course) spotlessly clean.

--Breakfast is a delight. Full range of buffet breakfast items in a charming breakfast room off the lobby lounge. Staff quickly remembers your morning tea/coffee preferences and delivers that promptly. Very nice.

--It is a great value. Hard to get the location, charm, professional service, and history of this hotel anywhere for such a good price

I look forward to my next visit. Hopefully, soon.

I have now stayed at Kaiserin Elisabeth at least six times, including for two days before Christmas last year and housing my company's international board of directors there for its annual meeting in March 2013. The staff are remarkably warm in their greeting and attentive to every request, including working very hard to obtain a dinner reservation for my wife and me on Christmas Eve at our preferred restaurant. The rooms are nicely appointed in formal Viennese style and feature sitting as well as sleeping areas. The breakfast is first class and included with the room rate, and in the last year the hotel has begun offering an English language newspaper option. The location, close to the main shopping streets and to the museums, makes strolling in central Vienna entertainment all its own. There is no restaurant for dinner on site but room service is available and good restaurants abound in the neighborhood. There are grander hotels in Vienna but for the money Kaiserin Elisabeth has become my favorite.

Room Tip: Rooms facing inner courtyard are quieter, but all light and the street is a dead end so not noisy.

If you want a comfortable hotel, excellent service and a little bit of Viennese charm, then this hotel is for you. The location is ideal - close to everything important. The breakfast is great. The staff were superb, locating the odd spare ticket to a couple of cultural events for a disorganised tourist like me who didn't find the time to book them before travelling. Highly recommended and would definitely stay again.

We stayed 3 nights at Christmas. The staff was fluent in English and friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was very god and included in the room rate. The location is right in the center of the old city, just around the corner from St. Stephens Cathedral. We thought the rooms were large by European standards and the bathroom was modern. We walked everywhere and the subway station is about 100 yards from the front door.

We stayed 3 nights in a superior room that was like a junior suite. Comfy bed and a really large bathroon with separate shower and tub added to the experience. The breakfast buffet (included in the price) was large and delicious. The staff at the front desk was friendly and helpful. The location couldn't be better. It's just off the main pedestrian shopping street, only a block from St. Stephen's, and just a few blocks from the Opera. We were able to walk to all of our destinations.

This was our second trip to Vienna and if we return, we will stay at the Kaiserin again. No complaints.

I booked a superior room at this hotel on the strength of the reviews on this site and for its location. The latter did not disappoint but the first did. I am not criticizing the hotel. The staff is friendly, eager to help, and speaks English very well. The breakfast is good. Wifi works very well. Great pillows. But there is nothing special about it. It is just like every other European hotel in its class: small, crowded with furniture, a wardrobe instead of a closet, long brocade drapes, hard towels, white duvets, and one of those beds that is really a futon. There is no box springs, just a 5 inch mattress placed on top of bare slats and not overly comfy. The tap water tastes ghastly. All that said, bonus points for having chairs, a fixed shower head, an elevator, and a tub that is wider than most for half the tub. This hotel is good and a nice place to stay but don't expect much out of the ordinary for Europe.

Room Tip: There are none with views so get the biggest you can

Doing some homework and research about this hotel paid off and all I had read was true. The staff are polite, friendly, professional and knowledgeable and speak very good English. They gave us several useful tips regarding the Christmas Markets and transport. Our room was very spacious (superior room) with lovely high ceilings and nice and warm. The bathroom was big with a huge bath (OK so I'm only 5ft so it doesn't take much but my husband is 6ft and loved it). The shower too was nice and spacious with plenty elbow room and it was great having 2 sinks. The hotel doesn't have a bar but it does have a very nice lounge and you can order teas/coffee/beer/wine/spirits etc. They put on complimentary Glüwein and biscuits in the evening which was a nice touch. Breakfast was the usual continental affair, good selection and I recommend the eggs. They must have happy hens in Vienna because they were delicious! One warning, the breakfast room is small so you may not get a table straight away if you hit it at a busy time. This happened to us and we waited in the lounge for only a few minutes before being called through. This was no problem to us as we a were on holiday and in no hurry. The location of the hotel is a true asset, right next to the pedestrian thoroughfare and just round the corner from St Stephen's Cathedral (Dom). I can't think of anything to fault this hotel for and will definitely book it again.
