I stayed at the Hotel Kaiserin Elisabeth, and had a wonderful stay there. The hotel is about 3 blocks away from Stephansdom, 2 blocks from a Metro station, and at the heart of a really great shopping district. The hotel is elegantly directed and is very well-kept, and the staff are friendly and helpful. I don't typically have breakfast at my hotel, since I like to sample the local fare, but the breakfast at this hotel is awesome. They have a great spread of hot breakfast choices as well as traditional continental breakfast choices.

We spent 5 nights in the hotel as part of our 50th wedding anniversary. It had been recommended by friends and they knew what they were talking about. The reception staff were first rate, multilingual and knowledgeable. The dining room served the most delicious buffet breakfast. Location could not have been better for walking to all historic sites.
Not for folk who like big glitzy hotels!

We had originally booked to stay at The Grand but just five days before our trip we found out that the Kaiserin Elisabeth had a special rate for the month of February. Just 135 euros for a double standard room including breakfast! Sorry guests of high season...
I took the risk to immediately change my booking and believe me it was the most harmless risk I ever took. It changed the outcome of our entire trip. To the better of course!!!
The hotel is small and friendly with emaculately clean rooms and situated at THE BEST location in Vienna. We only stayed for a weeked so time was of essence as we did not want to use any public transportation. Indeed everything was withing walking distance. The breakfast was served in a nice room with crystal chandeliers, plenty of choice of cheese and cold cuts, although I would appreciate some fresh fruit salad and fresh juice. Especially if we were paying the regular rate...
The biggest asset of the Kaiserin however, is Mr. Afshar at the reception. We wanted to avoid all the tourist traps, so we literally breathed down his neck until we were satisfied with his recommendation. His patience, knowledge and communication skills are just amazing! We asked for a nice inexpensive restaurant with Austrian food and he recommended the "Zu Den 3 Hacken" which was just two blocks from the hotel and it was GREAT! This way we made up for the mistake of dining at "Trattoria Da Angelo" the first night. I would suggest that you avoid this nearby trattoria as it is overpriced with no special character in its decoration or the tast of the food. Could not believe that there are still places in the world where pasta is not cooked al dente...
The room, 303, was spacious and very quiet although it overlooked the street. The only "noise" that we had was from the church bells on Sunday morning and believe me that made the whole scenery even more perfect.
Thank you Mr. Pour for the great rate and great service. We will definitely return!!!

Stayed for 3 nights in one of the nicest hotels visited. The location was second to none just off Stephansplatz and right in the middle of the pedestrian area. The underground rail system is only a minute walk away. The Hotel's staff were most professional and as helpful as could be. The night receptionist, Mr. Afshar, was most informative and willing to impart his knowledge with regard to sights to see, and events to visit, we found him extremely helpful. Our bedroom was on the 4th floor and there wasn't a sound to be heard throughout the night. Breakfast, from 7am to 11am was typically continental and with a good selection of cereal, meats and cheese.

The hotel's location is almost ideal - directly off the Stephensplatz pedestrian plaza. The staff was pleasant, but on a very cold night recommended a restaurant, which after walking several blocks in the cold, we discovered was closed for the entire month. Otherwise, the staff was pleasant and spoke English well. The breakfast, included with the price, had a nice selection of fruits, cereals, local dishes, breads, and pastries. As with many European hotels, the "king-sized mattress" was, in fact, two twin mattresses placed together. This does not make for the most comfortable couple sleeping. To this day I'm still not sure why some European hotels stick to the old fashioned dual mattress. Oh well, otherwise, the room was comfortable, but not too quiet since it overlooked the street. Every morning we were awakened early by some street activity, possibly garbage removal.

Booked the hotel based on the positive reviews on Tripadvisor. We stayed a couple of days in Wien for New Year's Eve and were very impressed with the hotel.
The location was very convenient. Steps away from the DOm and the main shopping street. The Kaiserin ELisabeth was an old fashioned but very
well kept hotel with spacious clean and basic rooms.
There was hardly any noise even on New Year's Eve when people were partying on the streets.
The breakfast was very good. The ladies serving breakfast were very attentive and friendly.
Would definetly go back there.
Worth mentioning is also the very fair price. Great Value overall.
