“Great location & comfortable room”
Reviewed 19 July 2013

The location of this hotel is perfect! And, the staff is remarkable - very friendly and helpful. We very much enjoyed having breakfast on the top floor (this may have been because of renovation of the ground floor restaurant, but looking out on the roof of Stephansdom and hearing its bells was incredible. We had plenty of hot water, good air conditioning, and working WIFI. We definitely will stay her on our next trip to Vienna.

Room Tip: Higher floors are quieter. Ours on the 4th had no street noise with windows closed.

I always stay at Hotel Royal when I travel for meetings in Vienna The convenient central location with metro lines 1 and 3 right in front and the friendly staff make me feel at home. Free wifi, good breakfast and two nice italian restaurants make the difference! To be perfect, I would suggest to replace the tiny old TV in all rooms and to have a dedicated staff in the panoramic wine bar at Settimo Cielo. We were guests in 3 rooms and we went up for a drink and they refused to serve us because it would interfere with the dinner service. We were told to come after 10 pm.

Room Tip: Rooms by the end of the hallway may have a weak WI-FI signal.

Dear Guest,

thank you very much for choosing Hotel Royal for your recent stay in Vienna. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay at our hotel, especially the very central location, our good breakfast buffet, our staff and our two high quality Italian restaurants. We are very sorry to hear, that you did not find a space at our Ristorante Settimo Cielo as you came just for a drink. We checked already with our head of service and were told, that only when we are very busy servings meals and do not have any seating space available there is no possibility to take a drink in our restaurant. We really want to apologise for this incident.Thank you again for the kind comments and we looking forward to hosting you again in the future.
Best regards your Kremslehner family and the Hotel Royal team

I stayed here with my girlfriend for 3 days. I have to say it's very convenient to walk around both day and night. Hotel room is quite big as well, morning breakfast buffet is not bad. However, the room service has to be improved for the price they charged. Tower was not changed even though we put them on the ground.

This is the only thing I liked about the hotel, its very central location. And the friendly and smiling staff. And the breakfast was not bad. Ok so three things. It's not a bad hotel, I would stay here again if not given another choice, but I didn't appreciate the price for what it offered. The double room was not that big, the beds were ok for size and confort but not excellent, the bathroom didn't impress me. I didn't like the furniture, it looked old and dated but it was clean, as was the whole room. It had free WiFi but it was a bit difficult to use. I didn't check the rooftop restaurant. The metro station and the cathedral are right out of the hotel, which is very good, and the whole area is pedestrian so it's very nice to eat at a nice restaurant and walk the whole way back to the hotel without caring for cars. But still I think the price is too high, as during the trip I stayed in two other hotels which were much cheaper and one of them was a Mercure near the Secession museum and Musikverain !

Dear Guest Ruluca

thank you for sharing your feedback with us.

We are delighted to hear that you appreciate the very central location and our friendly staff. Thank you also for mentioning that everything was very clean, which is really a very important point. On the other hand we are really very sorry that it did not exceed your expectations in furnishing. All rooms are furnished in Art Nouveau style and we are sorry to hear that you did not like it.

Regarding the room rates, as you already mentioned we are in the absolute heart of Vienna, right next to St. Stephan´ s Cathedral, therefore we offer higher rates than the Mercure, as their location is not as good as ours.

Hope to welcome you soon again

Yours

We spent four nights at Hotel Royal in Vienna at the end of May, 2013. The hotel is very centrally located, right next to the Stephansplatz metro stop. The people at the hotel will sell you a metro card which allows you to ride all the public transportation for a couple of days - and the metro is very good in Vienna.
If you come in by train, you can take the metro to Stephansplatz station.
The staff was very nice and the breakfast well done and complete. The property is a bit old but not run down.
The bad part of the experience is that their Internet access is terrible. First, it doesn't reach into the rooms - or at least not into our room. I had to go out into the hallway to get Internet access (or down into the lobby). Second, the password technique they use is very irritating - every time you lose the Internet access, you have to go through the log on again. Every other hotel uses a system where, once you log in with your security info, the system will automatically reconnect when you come back to the hotel.
And finally, the Internet is very slow. I don't know whether Vienna just has poor service or whether the hotel just cheaped out and bought a very slow link. Everywhere else we stayed in northern Europe, the Internet access was very good and fast.
I almost gave them a three rating because of the age of the hotel and the very poor Internet access but decided that the staff and the location merited a four.

For my birthday I decided to experience a life long ambition and visit the Spanish Riding School, booking through Expedia this was the hotel we selected primarily because of the location. And ..we wern't dissapointed. The hotel's location couldn't have been bettered, a small almost cul-de-sac with the hotel adjacent to what appeared to be the 'main square' next to the cathederal. We had along with our companions rooms on the fourth floor, they were simple but far more than adequate for our needs, they were clean and the beds comfortable with a seperate toilet and bathroom both of which were well serviced everyday. Our rooms were not affected by the noise of the street, so maybe if you are a light sleeper ask for a higher floor. The breakfast was what you'd expect, the rest of europe don't share our passion for 'the full english' so cold meat, cheese, fruit and breads featured heavily with a limited hot dish, incidentally this was my only criticism as the hot food did not appear to be replenished when eaten. However the staff were probably the hotel's greatest asset, charming, helpful and curteous, the young lady on the front desk and the porters particularly so. If you want a clean, simple, centrally located hotel where you are quickly made to feel at home, give this one a go. If you are a pretentious snob go elsewhere.

Room Tip: Choose a higher floor if your'e a light sleeper.

I had my wedding in Vienna and had people from different parts of the world all come and stay in Hotel Royal. The hotel offered the most amazing atmosphere to our guests and us (around 20 rooms). Very friendly staff, great breakfast, clean rooms and the most amazing location in Vienna. To top it all, the italian restaurant Settimo Cielo on the roof of the hotel where I had my wedding dinner/party. I really can't say any negative comment about this hotel and neither can any of my guests. A really great experience!

We are really pleased to hear, that you enjoyed your stay and are very proud we could help to organize your wedding party!

Our Ristorante Settimo Cielo, with its marvellous view over Vienna’s roof tops, … it’s really a magic atmosphere sitting by candle light with the light of the Stephansdom shining in the restaurant and all the city lights in the evening, …
