“Good hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 June 2014

This is a really friendly hotel to stay in. It is minutes from the Rennwag station, which is turn is directly connected to the airport by S7 line. Also, it is not too far from centre city. So location wise, a good bet.

My first impression as I entered the hotel was that it was different from how it was represented in the pictures. The pictures make it look way more grand than it really is. The foyer is not as majestic as how it is represented in the pictures. But it was still a good hotel, and definitely not your average fare.

The buffet breakfast here was lovely and I would strongly recommend opting for it. A wonderful spread with seating extending outdoors as well. I did not try any of the other restaurants so no comments on those. The receptionists are friendly and courteous. Note that the hotel is slightly overpriced but it you do not mind shelling slightly extra, then go for this one.

My wife and I stayed here only two nights mid-May. We arrived by car on a very rainy afternoon during rush hour. The hotel sign is very easy to miss (black with small lettering), so had to double back to the entrance. The parking garage is large and the spaces were adequate for our station wagon.
Front desk staff were friendly and fluent in English.
Our room was on the second floor in their additional building, and was clean and quiet.
We took advantage of their happy hour in the cafe downstairs. Finger food buffet and lower-end wines, which were fine.
Easy 40 minute walk to Stephansdom.
We'd stay here again.

Pros:
Location - peaceful, close to transport and a reasonable walk straight to the old town.
Lounge - separated from the main hotel, it was nicely laid out and offered an above range of amenities.

Cons:
The WiFi thing meant that the lobby and lounge were crawling with families ignoring each other staring at various devices and made working in peace impossible. Stupid.
Service: This was booked with Marriott points (I would hate to have paid out of pocket for this place) against my profile that has requested a feather free room and has done for 9 years or so without any issue. On returning from dinner on the first night, we felt the pillows and found them to be feather. I called down to the front desk and was told I was wrong, the hotel was feather free. I removed the pillow from the cases and found the label saying goose feather. I called back and was told, by the same receptionist, that no feather free bedding was available... they eventually found one pillow, but was promised it would be fixed the next day. One sleepless night and a day walking Vienna later, and we still have feather bedding. Finally fixed while out at dinner second night. Just sucky service and general catering for this kind of hotel...

Room Tip: You'll probably be told it isn't available...

This is a genuinely interesting if rather large palace come conference hotel. The name sums it up I guess. The best parts are the public rooms, lobby etc and perhaps the least impressive are the long rather soulless corridors of the hotel rooms. Having said that, the rooms are a good size, well equipped and well maintained. Air-con is hardly silent but no worse than most hotels; I always take earplugs being a light sleeper. Breakfast had a good choice of most things people would ask for. It's slightly in a suburb. So quite at night. But about a 15 minute walk or shortly tram/bus ride to the centre. So as a conference hotel it worked really well. Not sure I would choose it for say a weekend break as a couple. Front desk happily recommended some local restaurants with different cuisines and these were good suggestions.

I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights, as i was in Vienna for a conference, which took place in the same hotel. The hotel is located in a quite and beautiful neighbourhood with easy access to the town center. My accommodation was nice, in the average of the category. The dissapointing fact is that the hotel does not have wifi network available inside the rooms. The visitor have to pay in order to have access to the internet and he has to pay a lot! Even if he pays to have access throught his laptop, he have to pay again to connect another device, such as his mobile phone through the lobby's wifi!!! I found the lack of free internet connection in all hotel premises for its guests unacceptable for a 4 star hotel in 2014, and this will, of course, be concidered in my next hotel selection to Vienna, as it was affected my ability to do my job easily and effectively.

A few tips and tricks about public transportation since this hotel is well located but not in the very heart of town.
1. This hotel has a handy connection to/from the Vienna airport -- because the S7 ("locals' train") stops at Rennweg, which is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Easy even with luggage. To find the S7 at the airport, pick up your luggage, come into the arrivals area and turn RIGHT, following the signs down the ramp to the CAT. Do not turn left and follow the signs to the ÖBB (you will walk for miles!). You need two normal tickets (about 2€ each). Buy them from the machine and stamp them in the YELLOW box before boarding the train. If you buy a pass, for example, a weekly pass (they start on a Monday and cost 16€), then you only need one extra ticket to get to the hotel. As long as the pass is valid, you need one ticket to get back to the airport.
2. From the hotel into town, you have several options: The three easiest are the 4A bus, 71 tram, the O tram.
2.a. The 4A bus (board at the corner of Ungargasse and Neulinggasse) takes you to Karlsplatz -- this is handy for the opera house, the Musikverein, the Naschmarkt, the Karlskirche, Secession building and catching the subways U1, U4 and U2. To get to the 4A bus, walk downhill (into town) on Ungargasse to Neulinggasse. Karlsplatz is the end station for this bus line and that is where you get off. When you come back from there, get off the bus at Ungargasse stop.
2.b. The 71 tram (board at the corner of Ungargasse and Rennweg) takes you to Schwarzenbergplatz. Schwarzenbergplatz is the endstation for this tram and it is there that you get off. From there you can take the 2 street car (direction Ottakring) to the Hofburg, museums, Museumquartier, etc. Walk out the hotel door and turn right and you find to the 71 tram.
2.c. The O tram (runs up and down Ungargasse, board either at Rennweg or Neulinggasse) you take to the endstation (Praterstern) and you are at the Ferris Wheel. Or you can get off at Landstrasse/Wien Mitte station. This is handy for Stadtpark, the MAK, and coffee houses like Prückel, Diglas, and walking to Stephansdom or taking the U3 to Stephansdom.

I stayed several times in the last months. Breakfast is excellent with good choice and really nice stuff.
The rooms are nice and clean but no wi-fi and you have to pay way too much for the internet.
It has a small spa and a well-equipped fitness center. In the fitness room either the ventilation could be improved or more frequently cleaning would be needed, it’s always quite smelly.
Location is a bit far from the center but by car it’s quite easy to get there.
There are several nice restaurants nearby.
I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: ask for a back side room
